Smoke Gets in Your Eyes- tales from a crematorium (4* - really fascinating)
A Wrinkle in Time (4*)
Hunger by Roxane Gay (2.5* - I think she's amazing for telling her story, but her writing is so choppy and repetitive I had to force myself to finish the book)
I can't think of a movie adaptation I hated, but I haven't seen that many. One I rewatched recently that was good is Before I Go to Sleep.
Thanks! Now that you mention it I remember my library asking if I wanted to download additional content but I hadn't bothered. These are good.
I really hated this book! The idea was cute but the really bizarre casual racism ruined any chance of enjoyment. I remember liking her first book so I don’t know what happened. I found this blog post that outlines some of it yourekilling.us/?p=1931
Hmmm, I don't want to read the link until I'm done since I'm almost there, but I'll take a look then. I admit I haven't been paying as close attention as I do to many books so I've probably missed some things.

It was really bad in the Chinatown scenes as in the depiction of virtually all of the minor characters.
I've been reading Sherrilyn Kenyon's League/Nemesis Rising series. They're sci-fi romance and pretty fun. I'm currently on book #5 Born of Silence. I read books 1-4 and I rated them 4 stars each.
QOTW: The Harry Potter series are really well done in the films. I also have been very impressed with Outlander on STARZ. I don't know if I can pinpoint any book-to-film adaptations that I was upset about because the movie didn't stay true to the book. I certainly think there were a lot of books that never needed to be made into films, *cough*50ShadesTriology*Cough*.

I didn't really remember that part of the book (I read it several years ago), but seeing it all laid out like that in the blog, geez. Yeah, that is pretty bad.

I was really surprised because I felt like her first book didn’t have anything like it at all. Plus it was spread out in the huge book so it would seem normal for a few chapters and then wham! some bizarre racist stereotypes come into play.
The fact that it was never addressed or called out and was in the narrative and not just the personal thoughts of the characters is what really made it worse for me, it wasn’t just the thoughts of one racist, awful character, it was the whole book.
