Since moving from Houston to Dallas my skin has freaked out. My old routine isn’t working any more 😔 so I’m going to change it now that I’m about a week away from running out of it.
My skin is dehydrated, I have non cystic acne and At 32 I have some fine lines. This is what I’ve cobbled together. What do you think?
After workout ***do I cleanse again or just rinse*** Acid: First Aid Beauty facial radiance pads (lactic, glycolic, Hyaluronic) Clinique moisture surge spray Serum: hydralauron Moisturizer/sunscreen: cerave am moisturizer Moisturizer/tint: bare minerals complexion rescue
PM First cleanse - Clinique take the day off 2nd cleanse: cerave hydrating cleanser LRP serozinc Serum - differin Moisturizer - cerave pm
I’m not set on these products and I’m not opposed to a few more expensive items but I do want to keep my total skin care under $200
Are you saying that you do two workouts, with hot yoga being the first one? Or are you saying that before you go to yoga, this is what you do? Is this workout every morning, first thing? When you say your skin is freaking out, what exactly do you mean? Acne? Usually with moves, the environmental factor causes a lot of upset, but things like water can too. I'm not familiar with TX- is the climate in Houston different than Dallas?
At first glance without knowing the info above, I'd say just rinse your face before your workout, use a light moisturizer, maybe something a smidge heavier than the moisture surge spray. After you workout, cleanse and do the rest of your routine listed. PM routine looks fine.
Could you see a dermatologist? When I was 32, I had acne and a long, long list of skin care products I used every day. I went to the dermatologist, who helped me pare down the list dramatically. He stressed over and over the importance of sunscreen and then gave me a prescription for Retin - A for my acne and fine lines. The dermatologist also does my annual mole check. Now I'm 35 and I don't think my skin has ever looked better and I only use a few products each day.

-hot yoga is my only workout and I do it at 815am after school drop out. I got 5 times a week.
-My skin is more dehydrated (probably the hot yoga) and I have acne now.
-Houston is only 4 hours south but closer to the coast and much more humid.
-We moved almost 7 months ago and my skin just keeps getting worse 😔

I went to a dermatologist last month and she just wanted to put me on birth control. I’ll admit it has me not wanting to go back but I should just find another.
I'm the same age and I use a spot treatment for my acne. Clean and Clears Persa Gel is what worked for me. I just dap some on at night where needed and that's helped clear everything up. Using a Clarisonic has also helped improve my skin over all.
I'd second the suggestion of moving cleansing your skin to after your work out. Maybe use a heavier moisturizer if Dallas is less humid. Also try mixing a face oil into your nighttime moisturizer. I love Marula oil and I get a 100% one on Amazon.
Ah ok, this is starting to make sense now. Between the extra cleansing and the drier climate, your skin is more dehydrated and is trying to compensate by producing more oil. Definitely drop the pre-workout cleanse. Does the clinque spray have any Aloe or Hyaluronic Acid? I'd recommend adding something with a humectant in the morning in lieu of the spray or a moisturizer.
I didn't know what the LRP product was, but google says it's a mattifying face spray for oily skin. Is there a reason why you're using this in your PM routine? Personally, I'd drop that. It may not be helping your cause. You should also add a humectant product and possibly an oil to the PM routine.
I haven’t started using any of the new products yet, I am still using the drunk elephant stuff. Since I am almost out I planned to go to ulta this weekend to replace things.
The Clinique spray has aloe in it.
I though the LRP serozinc would be good as a night toner because zinc is supposed to be good for acne

I am dehydrated and I don't cleanse at all in the morning. When working out I don't put anything on - I just get up and workout. Then I just rinse in water and do the rest of my programme.

I would rinse with water before yoga and then cleanse after. I know this is your proposed routine but what acids are you using now? Could you scale them back? Since your skin is dehydrated I would move them to other day or even just 2-3 times a week and slowly build it back up.
Do you usually have oily skin? What made you pick the LRP toner?
Cetaphil makes an acne face wash that isn't too drying. I use that one or the one from Paula's Choice.
I think you could also add an oil at night for extra moisture.
I'm envious you go to Yoga 5 days a week. That's my dream. I wish my studio had the same class schedule every day!

Out of curiosity, can you post your current routine and products?
Duh, I should have done that before!
Am DE jujubar DE c firma with DE bhydra DE marula oil DE sunscreen Bare Minerals complexion rescue
Pm DE jujubar DE framboos with DE bhydra Marula oil
My skin looked great in Houston so I think those products work for me and I like the ingredients list. Maybe I can use the more moisturizing DE cleanser in the evenings and alternate the framboos with differin. Maybe even add a night cream.

I have dehydrated skin as well and deal with acne. The active that helps most with the acne is Paula’s choice bha. I also use a lot of light moisturizing layers. I’ve found that heavy creams don’t work at all for me. They just sit on top of the skin and make it oily.
I recommend a BHA also. There are all different kinds from Paula's Choice (liquid, gel, lotion). I use the 2% BHA lotion on my dry skin to keep it clear so even if I've fallen asleep in my makeup, I rarely get a pimple.
I also agree with more moisture/moisture in a different way for your skin. I don't know how good the bar cleansers are. I think a nice, gentle, moisturizing cleanser is a good addition. I haven't tried the CeraVe and don't know how well it cleanses, but that or maybe a Paula's Choice cleanser might be a good product to try.
Its relatively cheap for the amount you get, is not at all stripping, and does a good job of cleansing my skin. I use it morning and night and just bought my second bottle. It doesn't foam so if you want that you won't be happy with it, but its the best cleanser ive found in a long time.
I just started using Clarins Lotus oil at night and it has done wonders for my skin. It’s specifically for oily/combo skin types and does some magic hydration-while-clearing-skin thing. If I do have a nasty pimple I use the Origins Super Spot Remover.
I second whoever said light layers of hydration will likely work best - hyaluronic acid toners, serums, light oils. I can use creams if I go in sparingly but I reserve those for when I feel like my skin is particularly parched.
Thanks for posting your current routine. From personal experience, even though Bhydra "says" it's a humectant moisturizer, I don't think it does jack for my skin (I'm dry year round, but it gets dehydrated in winter). I would drop that product all together because you need more help than it can give.
Maybe something like this would be helpful-
AM: Preworkout- Rinse face with water Clinique moisture surge spray A humectant moisturizer. I'd suggest something like Hada Labo Rohto Gokujyn Hyaluronic Acid Lotion. It's Japanese, but it's wonderful for helping keep the moisture content in the skin. It's a light, watery gel-like lotion that is clear. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FQUGXA/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_31?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A2Z500EVT3QUY7 I haven't used the hydralauron, but it also may fill this hole for you. Post workout- Cleanse with a gentle hydrating cleanser (no experience with the DE cleanser, but the Cerave Hydrating cleanser is nice.) Clinique moisture surge spray A humectant moisturizer Sunscreen Complexion Rescue.
PM: first cleanse- Take the Day Off Balm second cleanse- gentle hydrating cleanser Possibly a BHA as previously rec'd by others Clinique spray face oil A humectant moisturizer A hydrating sleeping mask may be beneficial, like the laneige water bank sleep pack. I hate the smell, but it really works.
I didn't address the acne but you will want to spot treat that to dry up existing spots. I think that once your skin is balanced and re-hydrated, the acne will disappear. I've never used Differin, so I can't comment on that and I'm not great with acids. I wouldn't use the LRP spray, but there are zinc creams out there if you want to try those. As a warning, you may have to adjust your routine in summer.
