My aunt and uncle, who were married in 1985, still have the top layer of their wedding cake in their freezer.
They have a tiny, old school freezer-on-top model (and it's their only fridge), and the frozen wedding cake takes up a pretty good chunk of it. I was helping put away groceries one day, and I was very amused.
27 year old cake I wouldn't even consider eating. 6 year old cake? I won't lie. I'd probably try a bite if it were my wedding cake :-) Not that it'd last that long around here. DH "forced" us to eat our leftover wedding cake (from our freezer) as soon as we got home from our honeymoon because he wanted to enjoy it and not eat stale cake later!
27 year old cake! You beat me there. When I was 11 I discovered my mom has kept a large portion of the cake that was served at my baby shower. She still has it, and it's soon to celebrate 26 frozen years.
I'd open it and take a look to satisfy my curiosity, but I wouldn't eat it. If I'm going to blow a bunch of calories on cake, it needs to be delicious, and six-year-old cake (no matter how well-packaged) is not making the cut.
My first reaction was to think it really needs to be out of the freezer, because real estate in there is too valuable.
