We need new couches downstairs. The current ones are almost 20 years old and from Value City and well they are horrific.
I am leaning towards the Ian couches from Room and Board but was wondering if they ever go on sale? Also am I crazy for buying nicer couches for our living room with 2 young kids (they aren't allowed to drink anything but water down stairs, only food is popcorn, and no markers or crayons)
I have been looking at some from Ashley and some other discounted furniture stores but my main "want" is attached back cushions (since my children like to sit on the back of the couch and I am SO tired of having cushions thrown all over the room or smashed down). Anyone have any recommendations for a couch with attached back cushions that is less expensive?
They have an annual sale at the end of the year (starts Dec. 26), and that's about it. I don't think you'll regret paying full price for those sofas - the quality of R&B is really a step up from most other retail furniture. I've got an Andre sofa from them that's 10+ years old and still looks fantastic except for the arm the damn cats scratched up.
Also, it's really nice they offer those in the Sunbrella fabric - you may want to check that option out with littles around.
I’ve seen some nice sofas at cheaper price points at Macy’s and West Elm, and both have decent regular sales. I don’t think the price of the one you want is outrageous though. I got a cheap sofa in a dark color and joke my boys are the reason we can’t have nice things. I do plan to get something new in a couple years and they’d be 3 and 8. If you buy a higher quality sofa, it may have stain resistance options and you could always reupholster it in 10-15 years if it holds up well. They do make a lot of sofas with a bit more of a cushion/pillow back that are attached, although those tend to look more worn out over time compared to a firm back. I hate loose pillow sofas too!
They do have an end of the year sale which I’ve been to a couple times. But I’ll tell you that it’s pretty much all floor samples. Occasionally they’ll have a specific item on sale on the website which I suspect is returned goods. Still not a sale where you pick what you want custom. That doesn’t exist at R&B that I’ve ever seen. We have a R&B coach that is 8yrs old, it’s leather and we’ve been happy with it. I think they are worth the price. We’ve bought lots of stuff there and I’ve only ever been unhappy with 1 lamp—everything else has been great.

ellipses84, Yeah I really like the firm back. I seriously don't get the love of detached pillows. I guess it is cheaper or something, but it makes SUCH a mess with kids. I just want a couch my kids aren't constantly ripping apart for forts lol.
