I’m currently reading La Belle Sauvage which is the newest book in the golden compass series. I’m enjoying it, about half-way through. I’m not sure it’s as good as the original trilogy though.
I really want to go to Costa Rica to see the cloud forest and hike near Mt. Arenal volcano. I’ll probably have to wait until my kids are teenagers for that one, so a long time from now!
For the past two weeks (I missed a post) I have read: Murder with Peacocks, I gave it 3*, I would consider continuing to read the series Primary Justice, also 3* and would consider continuing to read the series This is the story of a Happy Marriage, first audio book, 4*
QOTW: Travel that I really want to do: a cruise of the Norwegian Fjords, visit the Great Wall and the panda research center in China, wine country in Australia.
I have loved most of my vacations, some favorites: the south of France, Edinburgh, any cruise (my favorite way to travel).
I'm still working my way through Kristan Higgins novels. Right now I am on book 3 of the Blue Heron series. Once I finish the series I will move on to something more substantial.
snshne322, Tower of Dawn really exceeded my expectations. I quite liked it actually. I struggled to finish Empire of Storms so it was a pleasant surprise to enjoy it.
I've been worried about this. I finally finished Empire of Storms and was eager to start TOD, but the first 25-30 pages are like 2 minute scene. I know we often need a refresh but oh my goodness... I was so bored.
I put it away and now I'm not super eager to go back. It's nearly 700 pages!
Chaol's attitude is not great. He's depressed and suffering from self-hatred because of what happened to his guard crew & Dorian (in QOS), of course, but I think it's a disservice to people in wheelchairs to harp on his negative thoughts about the paralysis so so so very often, to focus so incredibly hard on healing this 'affliction' to be 'normal' again. Nesryn is pretty interesting. As you may remember, her family hails from Antica, so she visits with relatives and learns more about her heritage. Nesryn chapters are, in my opinion, the best parts. The royal family is moderately interesting, and the peoples have a Dothraki (Game of Thrones) feel which is interesting. Yrene, the healer, is very gifted, and she goes through her own troubles and emotional/mental healing process. But there are things she does that are just so unprofessional, just the worst 'bedside manner.' Overall, it leaves me wanting to skip some chapters. I'm on page 300, and we have FINALLY moved on with the overarching plot and away from so much focus on Chaol and Yrene and the healing.
