Cleanser pH

Is a low pH cleanser recommended because it is closer to the pH actives need to work?  If I am not using actives is it okay to user a higher pH cleanser (8.5-9)?

No, higher pH cleansers are stripping and can damage your skin's acid mantle over time. Lower pH cleansers more closely match skin's natural state and help keep it balanced.

Yikes! I would never use a cleanser with a ph that high. Your skin’s natural ph is around 5.5 and using a cleanser that high will damage your acid mantle (also known as the moisture barrier). That protects your skin from bacteria, pollution, dehydration, premature aging....

I used my high ph cleansers on my makeup brushes rather than tossing, but never on my face again.

Okay, thanks for the info! I bought the Klavuu cleanser but just saw on Soko Glam that it had a high pH. Bummer...

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Cleanser and Purifying Cream Cleanser both have a ph of 4 and are available most everywhere.  I have dry skin and live in an arid climate, so I prefer the cream cleanser, but both are great.

Thanks for the recommendations!  I am using Cerave right now but was just looking at spicing things up a bit

I use CeraVe hydrating cleanser - it is a low PH too.
