I have plans to start a cardigan soon, but I also want to make a spring/summer short sleeved/sleeveless top. I've found a few patterns I like, and most are calling for fingering weight, but I'm not sure what fiber to use. I do not like cotton AT ALL. It kills my hands to knit with and is just not comfortable. Do you have a lightweight, good for the warmer months yarn you'd suggest? Linen comes up a bit but I know nothing about it. Should I just go with acrylic?
What about a bamboo blend? I have knit with a couple of bamboo/acrylic bases for socks and they are very nice to work with. I would also imagine they would be very breathable.
I also hate cotton and don’t use it at all. It’s so sticky/scratchy on the needles.
I would recommend looking up the pattern on Ravelry while signed in and then looking through the posted projects. When I do this I look for ones I like the look of and then check what yarn they used. I then try to find something comparable so I know i have a better chance of my project turning out how I would like.
Cotton doesn't have a lot of give anyway, so it's probably low on my list You could always look for a blend. Wool/cotton, something with silk, or even a merino has nylon in it I just finished a sweater in linen. I haven't worn it yet (obv), but it has decent drape and "they" say it gets softer with washes and wears.
