thoseareradishes, we did a bit of combo feeding--purees for the first two weeks maybe but then solids--rice, pasta, small bits of fruit and veggies. Like I said, I am comfortable giving him an entire bagel (which he then proceeded to slowly eat over the course of 1 hour!)
I think I am most comfortable doing the really small bite size pieces of pizza (the size of puffs or just bigger).
I also just read that covering soft foods like avocado and fruit with wheat germ makes them less slippery and easier to pick up. Might try that.

We wash avocados before we cut them, then just leave the peels on when we cut into slices. It definitely helps him grasp the slices.
shauni27, I think it really depends on the kid and on your comfort level. I STILL cut A's food into small pieces sometimes because she has always had a terrible gag reflex, which causes coughing, which causes her to choke. In the last month she's managed to choke on a wafer cookie, a bite of banana, and a slice of orange pepper no thicker than my pinky. And she's 2. I cut her grapes in eighths because I refuse to take chances there, lol. But I remember boiler717 posting a photo of T at 6? months with an enormous bite of grilled cheese sandwich stuffed in his mouth and saying he managed to get it all down just fine.
Oh, I have no clue when A got her first tooth. It might have been while we were in Texas the first time, so maybe 8 months?
S is going to be 8 months in ten days and shows zero signs of teething. I mean he has been drooling and chewing on things/putting things in his mouth CONSTANTLY but for...5 months now? No change in that.
This was A. Drooling and five million bib changes a day since like 4 months old. First tooth popped days before turning 9 months, second tooth the next week. And then I swear three more months of the top gums being swollen and back to a ton of drool and her punching herself in the mouth, and #3 just popped through this week at 11.75 months.
shauni27, The big piece of pizza or quesadilla would make me nervous. But that's coming from a mom whose kid CHOKED BIG TIME on a teething cracker two days ago. Jesus. It was really scary. I've just been ripping stuff up that's easy to pick up. Otherwise, I make a lot of purees - banana, avocado, sweet potato, squash, etc. - I spoon feed all of those to him.
P got his first tooth on New Year's Day. That made him just shy of 7 months. My mom said I barely had one by the time I was 11 months old, so it just depends.
P pulled himself up in his crib! We then had to scramble to move the mattress down.
I think he's finally readjusting to the time zone after our trip. It hasn't been fun or easy.
Now that he realizes he can stand up, he doesn't want to do anything else. He's decent at falling back onto his butt, but sometimes falls to the side. So he wants to stand all day but I don't feel comfortable getting out of arm's reach. It's making my days exhausting with no breaks. He will not sit still either. That's the one thing that made the plane ride so tough.
I really need his tooth to come in. He's so whiny and drooling SO MUCH but nothing has popped through. Poor little guy.

Yes, my baby has ONLY wanted to stand for like 3 months now it seems. Now she can stand by herself holding on, but when she couldn’t, my shoulders would be sore at the end of the day from holding her up lol. Actually she still prefers to stand up clinging to my hands.
Also my kid is 10 months (on 3/17) and DOES NOT ROLL. I’ve seen her do it a couple times so I know she can, but it’s so weird! She’s been sitting up alone since 5 months, can sit up from laying down and vice versa, gets up on all 4s, pulls up to standing. Dr said she does not have low muscle tone and that “she just must not like to roll.” But I want her to roll on her belly at night to see if it helps with sleep!
We picked up this ridiculous cradle from SILs house that H and all his siblings and cousins used at one point. The thing is massive and hideous. We did not want it, at all. But SILs both quilted us into taking it - saying that MIL will be "heartbroken" if we don't use it, and it will "kill her" etc etc. We have a halo bassinet, a rock n play, momaroo, crib, travel bassinet, and pack n play. We do not need this death cradle from the 70s with a gross musty mattress. H asked SIL if we could just bring the baby to her house, lay him in the crib for 3 seconds, take a picture and send it to MIL and call it a day but she said that wouldn't be enough for MIL.
I mean, baby wont use it at all. We will put him in it long enough to take a picture and put it away but I do not want to store this thing for god knows how long in our tiny house. MIL also emailed H and myself asking if we decided to baptize the baby and she has the gown that H and all his siblings wore for their baptism and how she would love for our baby to wear it too. LOL no. Not happening. MIL is a chain smoking in the house so this thing is probably yellow and reeks of smoke. MIL is super sentimental when it comes to her family stuff (specifically in regards to her parents and siblings) but is the least accommodating and helpful person so I really don't want to have to make a bunch of concessions to keep her happy.
This is how the cradle looks for the most part, but imagine mustier lol

We always put P straight down on his stomach. Would she tolerate that? Except now, he's figured out how to position himself so that we can't lay him down in bed. He wants to sit up. Fine, dude, I'm still leaving. GOOD NIGHT. He'll only cry for a few minutes before he lays down and gives up.
But YES it's exhausting! It was the worst part of the plane ride last week. He did not want to sit still and especially wanted to stand up. AND THEN JUMP. My arms were so tired at the end of the flight .
pandora89 , Are we even certain that the cradle is safe?? Yeah, don't use it. Your kid, your rules.
We still haven't gotten P baptized. Oops.
I really don't think it is!
There are some really, really strict guidelines in Canada in regards to things baby's can sleep in that are considered safe and I don't think this meets any of those guidelines.
eta - Nope, not safe. Bars are spaced too far apart lol.

Your MIL sounds dramatic and annoying. Make DH deal with her.
pandora89, bahahaha death cradle. My mom tried to impose a very similar cradle on my sister and then me, and we both avoided it. I’m surprised she hasn’t brought it up for this baby yet! Good luck with it!
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.
You guys. I’m finally wrapping my head around the possibility of having a baby. I hit 14w on Tuesday. I’m feeling movement, but of course it’s not distinct yet or regular. Still, walking in to my OB appointment yesterday, I was worried that something would be wrong. The nurse found the HB immediately on the Doppler, and the OB put me on a regular pregnant person schedule - come back in 4 weeks. 😬

I had my viability scan today and it all looked good, so I finally feel ready to come over here! I'm 6w4d based on transfer, looked 6w2d by crown-rump length on ultrasound today. We got to see the baby's heartbeat and I started crying as soon as we did haha, poor ulrasound lady had to wait until I stopped shaking the wand to get her pictures. I'm feeling so relieved and happy today and like I can really start looking at/reading about pregnancy stuff! Due date is Nov. 4th, though they said most go sooner (most REI/IVF patients, I assume, since most first time moms go later I thought?). I'm so excited!! Hi!!!!
pandora89, yeah if my crib from 1983 is now a death trap that cradle must be for sure. I'm betting your SIL just wanted it out of her house, haha. Take it to the dump and be done with it. Also, prepare yourself for asking on here about sleep advice and everyone telling you "just put him in the Rock N Play" and you're all "those things are not sold here, people, I need some real advice!"

knx9211, E wants to climb on me all the time, which I can tolerate when we're hanging out in the living room. But she grabs my legs and tries to pull up in the kitchen and it drives me nuts! I'm trying to make you lunch kid, go play!
The other day she said she didn't want to wear the shirt I picked out, and I asked if she wanted to wear a shirt made of boogers instead, and the shock and joy on her face as she got the joke was priceless. She laughed and laughed! I love being her mom. She's a riot.
Hazel would love this, because she thinks boogers are, as she says, "yummy."
J is doing better with sleep at night but naps are still all over the place.
His eczema goes from ok to bad and sometimes he scratches so much he bleeds. We are down to 6 outfits because he scratches when he sleeps and they have mittens.
He is a rolling machine and is trying to crawl which is crazy! He loves purees but chokes on anything with a thicker consistency so we are sticking with purees for now.

knx9211 - haven't gotten G baptized either. We have to wait until we have his updated birth certificate, sigh...thanks Catholic Church. It's been over a month, but we were told 10-12 weeks before we'd get it. We have a meeting with the parish next week to talk about logistics, but haven't scheduled the baptism yet. I'd love it if it could happen during Easter vigil, but I doubt that'll happen...boo!
And omg, ladies...yesterday J called me into the kitchen and was like, "OMG...LOOK AT G!!!" My baby was commando crawling! I'm not ready!!!
