We have two security cameras inside our house and several more outside, so this didn't bother me in the least. But now I'm wondering if I'm broken because most people are freaked out at the thought. Haha
I didn’t even think about he discrimination aspect (of course...I’m white) but I feel like a lot of this started when 1) people started getting their jewelry and meds stolen during open houses and viewings and 2) the generalized increase in the use of nanny cans/security cams.
If we sell our home we will do what I did last time and put a ton of stuff in storage and any jewelry or other expensive things will be locked in our car trunk.
When we were buying, our agent warned us constantly to not be too emotional in the house or say things we wouldn’t want recorded. He was very suspicious of this practice. I guess he was right.
I think where I live this is just not a thing. Neither are doorbell cameras (learned about that on here) or security in general (I would say one in 20 houses has an alarm in my area--and that is being conservative).
My opinion might be different if I lived in an area where in general the practice was more common. But since it is not I say ick.
I guess this doesn’t bother me because no one should be doing anything at an open house other than looking around. Maybe opening a closet and such, but past that - just looking. I’m a total stranger - why should they trust me?
As stores i go into have security cameras, I’m just not bothered by this.
Now, nanny cams and such - at least when we’ve gotten to a point where you trust me, I’d be really bothered to know I’m being watched all the time. If my boss could watch me all the time in my office - I’d have a real issue.

After talking with some friends last night, I guess this is not new or uncommon. Several realtor people mentioned they have seen temporary, not just routine security, cameras and even I-pads propped up to film during showings... and for like the past decade.

That’s no surprise. We saw technology in our house that suggested the sellers were recording inspection and other things we were in the house for throughout the process. We spoke with our realtor outside or back at our own house.

DCPs are often filmed at work. Every center I’ve worked at would remind us every week or so at the staff meeting that cameras film everything and they can hear our every word. I’m not really bothered by this.
I don’t think I’d really care if someone heard what I said at their open house unless I really liked it. If no one has told you to clear your clutter and clean your shit, I have no problem being the rude stranger that calls it out.
Last time we looked for houses, I still lived 16 hours away. DH would text me pics and I would text back my thoughts.
