I just finished my re-read of Towers of Midnight (book 13 of the Wheel of Time series). It was good to hear me escape from reality, which I needed. Haven't figured out what to pick up next yet.
I'm next on hold for 3 audiobooks at the moment so I picked up a random available one that I hadn't read since childhood: Anne of Green Gables . It's amusing in a memory-inducing kind of way.
QOTW: we didn't do anything special, partly because I forgot and partly because we don't celebrate many holidays.
I'm sharing Anne of Green Gables with my husband during our weekly story-time. It's interesting to explore the book with him. I've read it many times -- in fact, I actually read one copy so many times it ended up falling apart in my hands the last time I read that copy, but it's fun to experience it with him. He's never read it or seen the Kevin Sullivan production so he knows nothing about it.
This thread is making me want to reread the entire Anne of Green Gables series again. I loved those books so much.
For those who have read them, did you watch Anne With an E on Netflix? I loved it!
I don't have Netflix so I haven't seen it. But the Kevin Sullivan production is so good I don't want that image of Anne & Gilbert (how good was Jonathan Crombie? Ugh, I'm still torn up by his death) tarnished by someone else's interpretation.
It's so hard not to read ahead during the week instead of taking it a chapter or two at a time with my husband on Saturdays.
I finished Elon Musk: Tesla, Space X, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future by Ashlee Vance and now I want to buy an electric car and go to Mars.
Yes! I love to see people reading this book, I thought it was so fascinating! Two families on my street have Teslas and I made a fool of myself recently blathering to the one guy about how cool I think his car is. ☺️ I’m trying to convince my husband for my birthday that we should at least attempt to test drive one. 😀

My neighbor rented one for his birthday. He had it for the weekend. My H got to ride in it with him a few times.
Oooh.... I didn’t know this was an option. Thanks!

I didn't remember it was on Netflix. Will have to check it out.
I only watched a little but it was good. A little darker at the beginning as they go more into Anne's past and why she's up for adoption again. The girl they picked to play Anne is good, she has a lot of the same spunk and energy as the original.

I’m about 1/3 of the way through this book and I’m just finding it a little too long. Like, each chapter has a little more detail than I need, but maybe that’s because I used to live in Silicon Valley so I’m already familiar with a lot of the backstory? My H started reading it and put it down, and he feels the same way I do. I plan to finish it, but I’ve had to work two other books into my rotation to keep reading. It’s just not as interesting to me as other biographies I’ve read, but no doubt Elon is an interesting person.
I did tour the Tesla factory in Fremont when I lived in the Bay Area. It was so freaking cool.
I'm jealous of your tour! In rural PA we have a few Tesla's around but not many and I still get excited when I see one. I'd love to get a model X but I worry how it would be in the snow (we are to get 8-15 inches tonight for the first day of spring).
I just finished The Power by Naomi Alderman. 4/5 Some plotting and dialogue can be clunky, but it's thought provoking. And at times very fun to read, as a woman, since it's sort of The Handmaid's Tale in reverse: what would happen if women had all the power?
Also read Prairie Fires by Caroline Fraser. 4/5 Well-researched, but reality is a bummer. I prefer the myth-making of the Little House books, Pa playing his fiddle and Ma stretching two pieces of bacon and half a sack of flour to feed the family all winter.
