that is just nuts....as a former multi-marathoner who was slow as molasses, that's incredible that she's so gifted and naturally talented- I hope she gets a career boost and can train even more to reach her olympic goals
The weather looked HORRIBLE, a good friend got to mile 24-ish and DNF because he couldn’t stop shaking from the cold. There was an an elite runner that was there too...they all tried but immediately started shaking again uncontrollably and medics said no.

That is amazing!
Everyone just looks so miserable in the photos. The weather was horrible and I was soaked just walking from my office to the train! I can’t insgine. My BIL ran one of his best times today, although he was mad it wasn’t a personal best. Dude, you ran in the rain during a freezing cold monsoon!!

Wozers. What an amazing accomplishment. I am a sloth myself, but kind of intense, and many of my friends are serious runners. My friend's daughter ran it, and he kept re-texting me photos his wife sent him, so I felt engaged.

All I can say is I go to the same massage place as the 3rd place guy. So there's that. LOL
Those guys are so intense and so incredibly speedy, and, living in an area of ultra-trail-people, the speed some people are able to maintain is ASTONISHING. Like, there are people out there who can just trot out on muddy trails at 6 minute miles for 30+ miles. What. Like, I whine about walking the dog some days. Just saying.
The 5th place woman started in the second wave, so can't collect her $15,000 prize. Can you imagine?
All today did was make me want to qualify again.
WTF? Are runners in the second wave ineligible for any prize? That seems like bullshit, but I know nothing about running...or about any sports actually.
My MIL finished. She was worried after an injury a few months ago, but she is a stubborn woman.
An old college friend ran it today. He did it in 3:37.
I don’t know anything about marathons, but it sounds impressive. Hell, I’m impressed he finished. Or even started.
I don't like to drive 26.2 miles, much less run it. lol
Right?!? Last year, my high school class's valedictorian ran the route twice in 24 hours for charity. Kid always was an overachiever, haha.
I don't know how anyone finished yesterday, though it may have been slightly better than those years when it's in the 80s and 90s and humid? I dunno, not a runner.

I have another college friend that does endurance runs. Last year was a 240 mile (!!!) run in like, the desert.
I mean, wtf. He’s done three or four and is gearing up to another soon. So crazy.

I really loved this article. It was a really hard run yesterday and a lot of the elites performed more poorly than they’re used to (although certainly much faster than I do in marathons).
I loves that Desiree Linden stopped to help a friend make a quick pit stop and wound up winning.
The male winner - Yuki Kawauchi, who said it was his favorite running weather - was unexpected yesterday, too.
And Meb pulled himself out of retirement to run as a pacer in support of the Martin Richard Foundation.
Anecdotally, my friend ran with Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and DNF. She pulled herself at mile 16 and was taken to the hospital because she has asthma and couldn’t breathe. They had a headwind the whole way and just couldn’t catch her breath and she was so cold. Lots of people wound up in med tents or at the hospital.
What a great day for the American women yesterday! I'm working from home and rewatching the whole thing. I caught some of it on my phone yesterday.
It definitely looked so miserable. I had a few friends that were running yesterday. Reading their recaps, it sounded awful. I ran a half marathon that was similar like to that and it was not fun.
I'm doing it next year. I hope we get better weather! It was warm the year that I ran it. Something in between freezing cold rain and hot weather would be great.

I am hearing a bunch of acquaintances tell their stories about getting pulled for hypothermia and other weather-related complications. Really sad. BIL finished in 2:42 which I think is incredible but he was literally shaking crossing the finish line and he’s pretty sick today. My poor coworker (running for charity) finished in 6 hours+.

Stories like this make me want to get back into running. I *should*, but it's just been so hard to get (re-)started. I mean, not that I have any chance of even running Boston, let alone finishing in the Top 5, but it brings back all the good feelings I had when I was marathon training.

I'm so happy for this guy, but I don't know how 25 mph headwinds and drenching rain can be anyone's favorite running weather.
I’m not sure what part of Japan he’s from, but apparently he’s used to running in cold and rainy weather, which gave him an edge against some of the other elites.

You could run with a charity!
I know, but if I'm going to run one (more) marathon, it's going to be NYC. I trained so hard to run in 2012 but then it was cancelled due to Sandy. I ran 26.2 in Central Park that day instead just on my own, so it's been a looooooong time since trying to get to the start line of NYC. Pregnancies and inconsistent running as a result since then have hampered me but the shop is closed now so I have no excuses. Gotta drop some more weight first because I think my foot issues from the last time I tried to resume running stemmed from my excess weight, so I'm trying to avoid injury this time. I'll either try the lottery for NYCM 2019 or do the 9+1 program during 2019 to qualify for NYCM 2020.

Rain, wind and cooler temps are my running jam. Sun and anything over 75 is really difficult for me. I even have ice grips for my shoes so I can run outside mid-winter. So, I would have loved the conditions this year!

Cooler temps are ideal since I hate hot weather running too (and hot weather in general), but that wind? NOPE. I don't mind rain either, it's fun to run in the rain.
