mae0111, I'm sorry for the set back. How do you know it's a deal breaker? Did they say that?
Siblings really help at some schools. I know several people who have used academically advanced kids to get less academically advanced siblings in. Also, if you seem like you'll work with her over the summer, that may really help.
What's the word on the street about the school? Do you know anyone who goes to this school? Is there a "word on the street" about how selective they really are? Some of the more selective schools in our area are very political and parents work really hard to make sure they do well on assessments with tutors and consultants and such.
The school we're going to isn't like that at all, but I did that on purpose b/c DS DOES have learning issues and so I didn't want him any place where he wouldn't succeed long term.
saraml13, mae0111, I need to update my post. When I said infant carrier I meant the bucket seat, which I think you guys have both answered for me. skip it? I have a moby that I got from a friend that I hope works for me. We have back pack for when she is older.
xctsclrx - the bucket was super handy in spring/summer to bring in a sleeping baby with the groceries/snap into the stroller frame (not stroller!) to drop off big kids at activities/run errands. I did a lot of ring sling baby wearing but still found the carrier seat super helpful. DH also preferred it to baby wearing, so he would carry it to go out to eat, etc. and DS would crash.
I loved the infant seat with all three kids, regardless of time of year or what number kid it was. When baby falls asleep in the car it is priceless to be able to leave baby asleep while you shop or go back in your house or take older kids to activities or whatever. I can’t imagine having to jostle baby out of the seat and into a Bjorn all the time.

We loved our baby carrier. Full disclosure, we were able to use ours long long after most people had to move up and out b/c my kids are so very small. But I loved them for the same reasons sdlaura mentioned.

Plus one to this
ETA I’m also a big baby carrier person. Boba, ring sling, etc. I think both things have their value. I love the car seat for being able to let keep baby sleeping while we do other things out of the house.
By 4 months I couldn't carry DD and she was tiny maybe 12lbs. She out grew ours by 9 months for height. So I would say no or buy one from a friend you trust. I will say she slept the best in that seat and DH loves it. I had to take it to work for him to stop using it and switch to the convertible.
