It was a less than spectacular week. My dog puked a few times. I hurt my foot and am hobbling around. Then I got a sliver in the other foot, one of those darn ones that is super hard to see though definitely not super hard to feel, but I finally got it out last night after soaking it a while. On the better side of things, we had company over one nignt. We tried a new restaurant (it was just okay, but now we know, so still glad we tried it, plus happy to not be on my foot in order to cook). LO volunteered to water the garden, but he quickly decided he didn't like my milk jug for a watering can, so I gave him the idea to use his water shooting wand thing, which was a hit.
The weather's been uncooperative and I have been emotionally out of sorts. I'm still trying to find a new normal with dad's death and looking out for my mother who is doing freakishly well emotionally but still has a world class case of ADHD and poor EF skills. But we did get a break in the weather Thursday so DS, DH and I went to see Sail Philadelphia's Tail Ships Parade. Something different anyway. After, we stopped by a very cool pub for dinner and beer.DS likes it because he can train spot.
Saturday I took my mom into Germantown to a historic house and garden tour. It was hot as balls, so we hit a cute restaurant and did a little day drinking before taking the train back to the burbs. Sunday I took a friend I met via a support site much like this almost 20 years ago. She was in town for a wedding, so I took her and her son who has mild ASD on a quick walking tour of Phila before she had to leave. It was great to meet her son- bright, funny and handsome- after all these years. He has one more course in the fall before he gets his BA.
Last week went well. I’ve had trouble prioritizing working out, but I did go today. Went to the coast on Sunday for the first time in several months. It was crowded (to be expected on the holiday weekend) but nice weather.
I might try to set up dinner with a few friends. We meet up every few months. One of these friends was recently diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, so we will need to plan around her health.
Just got notice that our city’s water supply is contaminated - they recommend kids under 6 and pets don’t drink tap water. It’s a bit stressful as all the stores are sold out of bottled water. Got a case of bottles from my niece who was able to wait for a shipment at Safeway. Good times.
Things are not going well. We are working on medications with DS and I am just feeling like it's all a big mistake. He has been horribly aggressive at school. And even at home, where we can keep a better handle on him he's been really challenging and unpleasant. It's definitely been taking a toll. We did manage to have a mostly pleasant holiday weekend so that was nice.
Challenge: Funny enough I randomly got a text from an old high school friend I haven't talked to in awhile and we've been chatting all week. It's been nice to catch up
Sahara, I'm sorry about your water supply--that must be really stressful. Jreeds, I hope things get better with your DS.
Last week is a blur. My sister and her kids visited over the weekend, so that was fun. We got a lot of outside time with all of the kids. DD1 tried out for the swim team and passed the test. We started practice this week, so far so good. All of the parents I know who do it say it's fun.
Challenge: we hung out with an old friend on Sunday. She was my sister's college roommate, but she's a friend of my whole family. It was so nice to see her.
Got a much-needed massage on Friday, also managed to swim a few laps during DS's swim lesson on Saturday.
Last month my garden got some TLC in the form of a new irrigation controller, and I also finally spread out a bunch of compost that I bought last fall. I've started to see the results this week. My roses are happy, and it's been fun to cut flowers for arrangements to bring inside. It helps to feed my soul.
Challenge: texted my college roommate on Sunday. Also meeting another friend for coffee tomorrow, but things have been weird with her lately so it's entirely possible coffee will be weird too.
