scm1011 , when did he start even saying mama or dada? G is nearly a year and all we have are “b” sound babbles. Nothing else. I’m trying not to worry about it but sometimes I get concerned we should say something?
My DD is 14 months, she has probably a dozen words, but she doesn't really say mama or dada (several are "b" sounds - baby, ball, Ben, bye-bye). She has way more words than my DS did at 18 months. I'm glad he came first because then I didn't worry about it. His big explosion was at 22 months. I remember because I was away for work and when I came home he was like a different kid.

So I gave E some milk in a take and toss straw cup, and she spit most of it out. But not in a "I don't like it way" - she seems to have some trouble coordinating her suck and swallow, although I have seen her do it when she's really thirsty. So we'll keep practicing!

A first learned to drink from a straw cup at around 14 months. I bribed her with some of my coffee Frappuccino. She was really keen to drink it, lol.
oneslybookworm, I wouldn't worry at all yet about words. S only says "daddy" and "hi" but I cannot tell if he does it on purpose yet (it seems like he does? He says DADDY! as soon as G walks in, and he says "HI!" whenever he sees someone on factime, lol.) but it is brand spanking new.

Yeah, I'm trying not to get too worried. I mean, he's always seemed a bit delayed in audio/speech areas (we did think he was completely deaf there for awhile...including various very expensive hearing tests to conclude he is, in fact, NOT deaf), so it wouldn't surprise me if his speech is a bit delayed. Plus, with all his illnesses, exposure, and preemie status, it would stand to reason he's a little behind. But I just want to keep an eye on it to see if it's something we'll need early interventions for. After we did PT with him for his motor delays, he just shot off in development, so I'm a HUGE believer in early interventions!
oneslybookworm, At G's one year appointment I am sure they will ask about his language skills and let you know if there is anything to be concerned about. I am with you though--a big believer in early interventions (not just with babies, lol)!!
