We are 1.5 years from oldest having a license. It’s amazing!! I can’t wait. I don’t mean that in an excited way. I mean...I can’t wait. I priced driving services for kids. $43 one way - it’s 4.1 miles. $36 one way for 1.6 miles. If DD could safely tow her golf clubs I’d be buying her a bike and a flag!!
The work thing for her is hard - she does best (health wise) when she is busy. If she gets lazy at home it throws off her night sleep, and her protocol excludes naps so if she does nap, autonomic issues soon follow. So while I am nuts, she has a lot of down time, especially without volleyball (only coaching instead of playing for now). Plus my exh is no longer paying child support, and teenagers are expensive! One pair of Golf shorts is $75 (zero luck with used and literally only Nike fits her; she’s 5’6” 115 pounds and wearing kids golf skorts, which are also hard to find a good fit). The sizing is crazy.
SS and DH are at his first court appearance for his felony possession. I’m hoping ... he comes home from that. He’s still living in the sober living house and appears clean, so I am hoping that month of rehab and the house are enough to keep him out of ... prison. It seems crazy to say that.
PSA for introvert parents: Start doing whatever you can to get comfortable before high school open house. I thought elementary school was a little stressful and middle school was worse. Last night following DD’s schedule in 15 minute increments (you don’t take your student) with the families of 1500 other students almost did me in. And then I had to talk to people too? I’m pretty social and I almost cried in the last class. DH could see I was a mess and went to get me ice cream. It was that bad that DH put down work and left the house (this rarely happens).

The one thing I learned from DS being in travel baseball for the first time last spring (which meant multiple games in one day) was having "back-up moms" (a term one of the other moms used). A few of DS's friends were on the team, and there were a few times we helped each other out with taking care of each other's kids.
Wow about high school open house, 2chatter. But I'm happy to hear that your H put down work and did something nice/thoughtful for you!
covergirl82 - yes! Without my village I’d be totally nuts. For instance, last Saturday after practice DD went home with a friend so I could take the dogs on a creek walk at the nature preserve with the boys. Not having to be there for her to come back home was awesome. AND Most days after school there are kids here (with the nanny), and as a result of that, there’s this “play date capital” that seems to accrue. That also helps! For the volleyball tournament this weekend we have parents on deck so that not everyone has to stay between the games but the girls can and can have snacks and play games. So cute!!
And....I cannot imagine any travel sports but especially not baseball - they seem to play crazy long tournaments!!
2chatter , yeah it was the crowd that did me in at the meet and greet, and the fact I had two classrooms to get to by myself and the kids. DH was not there.
We probably had about 900 people maybe because the school was idiots and did everyone at the same time. The adjoining school also had theirs at the same time which was another 900, but in a different building, but parking was a disaster. It was 90 degrees out, and a line to get in.
I am going to have to re-think my strategy for next year because I will have one in one building and one in the other. I might just have to demand that DH be there, or ask my mom to drive 5 hours to come. Come super early or come late after the crowds have died down.
It’s truly having the high schooler that’s too much.
I second this. HS is a whole new level of everything - time commitments, food commitments, plus social lives and ramped up homework and expectations. Not only do sports start 2 weeks before school begins but there are also social commitments like bonfires and other evening events. Not to mention Saturday meets. I’m overwhelmed. On the other hand, I love that DD is having a great transition into HS and that XC is so supportive and welcoming.
ETA: 2chatter, just read your post about open house. We had DDs curriculum night last night and I was also toast by the end - we had 10 minute classes with 5 minutes for passing time. I don’t know who designed this school but it is ridiculously complicated to get around. I went to 2 different HS growing up and I don’t remember having that issue. Maybe I’m just old?!
justcheckingin73 - same here on the weird design!! The numbers don’t even make sense - 102 on one side of the hall and 122 across the hall - which freaked me out for odd/even and lowest to highest purposes. Thank god for the JROTC kids giving directions!
I keep thinking that high school is only four years and she will drive for 2.3 of them. So I just have to survive until she can drive then I will happily buy her a car to save my sanity (she will have to buy in at some rate, but IDC, I am funding it so I can have down time).

I’m with you on driving! I both worry and can’t wait at the same time. And I will buy her a car too. And then I’ll user her for errands Gotta get those hours in.
