Our go to is Target gift cards & a class gift. We are giving $20 Target gift cards to DS2’s two daycare teachers & some new books for the classroom. DS1 is in first grade, we got his teacher a $20 Target gift card too. Their class gift was a few board games & a book from their wishlist.

We are as generous as we can be with our daycare provider. They enable DH and I to be the working parents we want to be without worrying about the safety of our kids and that is priceless for us. We aren’t consistent with amount since it depends on circumstances (such as last year when we had two in daycare), but we give what we can. No one should feel bad about what they’re giving.
I will say, even DH (a teacher) classifies daycare providers differently than teachers, hence why we aren’t giving the same amount to DD1’s K teacher (but it’s also organized by the class parents unlike at daycare, which helps). For starters, NYC public school teachers aren’t making minimum wage or close to it. Plus he vaguely recalls there may be rules against large gifts for teachers. So I don’t think a teacher saying they’d love any gift but give $100 to each daycare provider is hypocritical or anything.

We change it up every year. I think this year we'll give $25 each to DS's two main teachers and donate to DD's K classroom per her teacher's request. I may add in a small Target or WalMart gift card and she can choose to use it on herself or the classroom (she sent a note saying that she knows people want to buy her things but if you're going to, she really just wants things for the class). In previous years we've done bigger ($25-$50) for the main daycare teachers and $5-$10 Dunkin or Target cards for floaters.
Honestly, every time we give our daycare providers a gift, they act like we're the only ones giving them anything. I say this not as a brag, but because I don't know that it's as popular in real life as it is on here.
