My fave musician is now the most nominated woman at the Grammys. And LMM is tweeting about her. I’m fangirling over being a fan of someone who’s a fan of someone I’m a fan of. I don’t know. Add Pete Souza and Obama who are also fans of each other and fans of Brandi and LMM and vice versa it’s my dream dinner party.

My in-laws are visiting this weekend from out of state and I don't know how I’m going to deal. They are perfectly nice I’m just not in a good emotional place for company and it’s my wife’s preference that we not share personal details with them so no great way to raise the alert that any weird behavior is just me being very not ok in general and not about them. I’m going to try to put on a normal person face for the next 2 days.
I just taught a young girl an exercise in letting go last week...
When you have an unhelpful thought or feeling, imagine that it is Trump on your shoulder telling you that thought or trying to force you to feel that way. Would you take those thoughts and feelings seriously? Would you want to take them on? If not, then imagine you could just brush Trump yelling and screaming off your shoulder. Or kick Trump in front of you out of the way.
She liked the idea and tried it out. She said imagining punching Trump in the face helped her let go of all of the unhelpful thoughts she had that week, plus she said it made her laugh to think about it so she had a really good week. She's not an American either.

The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, on amazon prime, is a really good show if anyone is looking for something to watch. Great cast, great acting! Laugh out loud funny!

Ugh, that sounds not good. That’s a hard position to be in. Can you duck out for a night at a hotel or something? Hotwire something inexpensive and just take a bath and watch Netflix? Sending hugs.
sparrowsong I love Brandi. I saw her open for Shawn Colvin in 2006 and have loved her ever since. She puts on an amazing show. She’s the real deal.
I have mixed feelings about how big she’s getting. It’s well deserved and well earned, of course, but I miss the old days of small shows etc. it’s been fun to be along for the ride from the beginning. However, nothing beats the red rocks shows. If you haven’t done one of those yet, add it to your bucket list!
ETA: that’s such a predictable fan thing to say. Cliche. Apologies for my lameness. I’m so lame when it comes to my Brandi love.

Thankfully they’re staying at a hotel or I think I’d have to. They did leave to go relax in the hotel on the early side tonight and didn’t crowd us too much. Thank goodness for introverts!
It looks like my dad is having open chest heart surgery in the very near future. Maybe Thursday. ugh. Parents aging is the pits.
Hugs. It’s hard seeing your parents so weak and vulnerable. I’m sure he will be much better off and a whole new energetic person after the recovery, like my dad was.

Yeah, it's seeing him the week after that scares me the most. He's the never sick one.

We watched the first 2 episodes of season 2 last night. Fun!

There’s a whole episode in season 2 set in the Catskills that feels like a new version of Dirty Dancing. 😊

Update: Saw Boy Erased.
It's really, really good. Not particularly sad, IMO. I mean, it's a sad story and even the simple fact that conversion therapy exists is tragic, but definitely not a cry your eyes out movie (a lady in my theater would clearly disagree).
Also: Russell Crowe looks exactly like John Goodman in the movie.
We leave for Mexico City early tomorrow morning. I've spent the entire day running errands, cleaning, doing laundry, and packing. I am so glad I decided to fly out on Sunday instead of Saturday.
I have done very little planning for this trip, at least by my usual standards. Luckily I have a friend there who will be showing us around. I've told him to take me to the food, booze, and old stuff.
I had a rated PG sexy dream about LMM and James Corden last night and I’m not even sorry. (Well, a little bit since JC is a dead ringer for my client.)

DH and I are watching Won't You Be My Neighbor.
I feel like I have to pretend I haven't seen it yet. We kind of had a pact to watch it together but I couldn't wait and went to the theater when it came out.
I got an awful White Elephant gift tonight. There were a couple of small and dated looking picture frames, a couple of large shells, Thanksgiving theme wood plaque, a few random small books, a sample of whiskey, and a Marvin the Martian key chain. I'm used to White Elephant being funny, not random shit you went through and grabbed from various junk drawers in your house so I was kind of annoyed. Everyone went in the other room to play games, I redistributed the random crap into other people's bags/boxes. lol

The elephant sadness... sorry you got the sad gift. We go to one in January, where you can bring all the stuff you got for the holidays, you do not want, but someone else, might. I have gotten and given some good stuff over the years, but the host has an extra gift or two, because someone always brings a garbage present. If you get the garbage present, you win one of her bags, which are usually pretty good. It shames the garbage giver into doing better next year (truly horrible re-gifts are welcome, but should come with booze), while giving a prize to the person who gets the worst gift. Of course, it only works, if your friends have a sense of humor, and the sad gift isn't from lack of funds, just general laziness.
I’m really, really mad that a friend of mine was right, and swimming is the best exercise for my injured hip. I HATE swimming, but even a gentle yoga class primarily for elderly people had me limping. Swimming made me feel for a little bit like I wasn’t even injured. Dammit.

This was absolutely sheer laziness. The host suggests a retail value of $25. There's no way that hodgepodge was worth $25. Another guy got a pretty crappy present too but he admitted that mine was worse. I love the idea of doing one in January with gifts you didn't like + booze if necessary.
