The kids haven't had a day of school yet this week here, due to a snow day on Monday and cold for today. The rest of the week doesn't look good either. And the university just closed for this afternoon through Thursday morning. Who else is closed? Also, how are you surviving? My kids are crawling the walls after only having two days of school last week too.
Well you know how I am surviving- not great, on the couch with a heating pad on my back. Yesterday should have been a snow day but we struggle bussed through it to the point of injury. School today but DS is home sick. No school Wednesday or Thursday. Work closed Wednesday. Late start a Thursday so maybe I’ll just bring the kids with me for 4 hours. We don’t open until 12. Everything maybe back to normal Friday.

We had a snow day yesterday but they went to school today. It’s a high of 2 but tomorrow is -17 with wind chills in the -50s 😱. They’ve already cancelled school for tomorrow and Thursday. Thankfully I have a light week in terms of meetings but a ton of actual work to do. My dd sleeps in and stays mostly in her room. DS will probably play PS4 and his iPad. I’ll likely give them some chores but otherwise I expect they’ll be self sufficient.
I’ve never looked forward to 37 degrees (Saturday’s high) more in my life!
Snow day yesterday, back to school today and they just closed school for tomorrow. My office will probably close tomorrow as well since it may get to -60 here. DD2 and DD3 are starting to get sick on top of it. We watched a couple movies, arts and crafts projects, pillow forts, baths.
Our daycare never ever closes so always debating whether I send the two youngest so I can get some work done. I kept them home yesterday and glad I did but I'm exhausted and behind at work. I can't see bundling them up to go to daycare in -60 though.

Ugh...we haven't had school since last Thursday...and I got a text notification about 15 minutes ago to say school is closed tomorrow too. Thankfully, the exec over HR sent an email Sunday evening encouraging people to work from home Monday - Wednesday, which I have been doing and plan to do tomorrow. I gave each kid a list of things they need to do (reading, math worksheets, take a bath, etc.), plus I've let them each play with a friend who lives close by.
justcheckingin73 , I agree! I'm so excited for temps in the upper 30s this weekend! It will feel like a heat wave!
mellym , I can't even fathom -60 degree wind chills. While lake effect snow isn't always a treat, I'm glad that we live close enough to Lake Michigan (about 30-40 miles east of it) that it helps moderate the temps enough for us to not get as cold as even 60 miles inland of where I am.
Our superintendent already said he's requesting extra snow days due to the extreme weather. Our governor declared a state of emergency yesterday over the weather, so I anticipate our request will be granted due to the declaration of a state of emergency. I really don't want to have to go any later in the summer.
Update: The HR top exec just closed all of HR tomorrow. She said people can either WFH or take PTO. DH is for sure WFH tomorrow. I think this is the worst multi-day storm we've had in years.
We are also in a state of emergency and they are mobilizing the state national guard units. I just got an email that school is closed tomorrow. My kids also haven't had school since Thursday. Although somehow the guy who was scheduled to refinish our bathtub and shower showed up today still? It's a strange winter world here.
I know I feel like I can't complain about being stuck in the fog for days on end. 40 minutes any direction and it is sunny and nice but us valley people are stuck in fog. I couldn't see the neighbors house across the street. k3am, could you imagine what NorCal would look like if they got 1 inch of snow!
I am not super far North, but the high tomorrow is 7 with -15 wind chills. So far schools are on and I guess will be on. I thought we may close because that is pretty extreme for us. We have parent breakfast in the morning, so I will be driving them to school instead of the bus. I drove DD to the end of the driveway today so she didn't have to wait I in the cold. At least no snow so far this week.
I’m now grateful to live in the south. I was worried it might be in the 40s for my weekend away with DS but it will now get into the 70s. So I am packing shorts and jackets and pretty much clothes for all four seasons, but I’d take that over negative anything.
I'm in the northeast and we're not having these crazy temps. It's going to get cold tomorrow through Friday, but it will be slightly above zero (below with wind chill). Schools won't be canceled, but the kids will stay inside.
All you parents with no school trying to get work done - I feel for you! Good luck! Drink wine!
Well we're closed tomorrow. Dh just brought in tile for both bathrooms. He is planning on doing that tomorrow. Good luck. I'm going my work, that should be chaos.

Its getting to Indiana tonight so all of our schools in surrounding counties are all closed tomorrow. Even all of the colleges/universities. DH will be home in the morning and we arent planning on taking the kids out of the house until like Thursday afternoon. I have one meeting tomorrow afternoon 3 miles away and thats all I'm doing until Thursday afternoon.
A feels like temp of -40 tomorrow and then a high of 41 on Saturday. W.T.F?!

Yeah, its currently 3 here with a wind chill of -20. Monday, mid 60s.
Schools and universities are closed in SW PA. Temp right now is 7 with a real feel of -15. I suspect all will be cancelled tomorrow too with temps being the same. DH is home with all of the kids while I am at work. I suspect that I will owe him big time after dealing with all of them and not being able to go anywhere.
It is impossible to WFH with three littles going stir crazy around me. I got a couple things done and I think I'm going to call it a day. Our office closed today and tomorrow calling it once in a generation conditions. Record breaking cold here.

I do have to say, I filled up my car with gas last Friday evening, and it's still on full. I think I've driven less than 10 miles since then. So I've saved at least $25 in gas by all these days at home.
We've been out this week too, they wont go back until Friday. No school means no sports practices, which my middle NEEDS otherwise she is a hot mess of energy and that always leads to poor decision making. We have gotten them to the Y to swim for a few hours every day except today since its -50. The swimming is helping. We also have an indoor bounce house and an entire gymnastics room in the basement. Anything to help get out that energy. So far, so good. We have played a lot of Monopoly and Uno, were flying through some books, and have made our way through two months of Kiwi Crates so far. Tomorrow, we will get some pool time at the Y again, so we should be fine to make it until Friday. But I sure will be happy to put them on that bus!

Just got a text that school is closed again on Thursday. I don't know what I will do if they don't go to school on Friday.
madringal, both of my son's basketball practices were cancelled due to the school closures. He has a tournament this weekend and the team probably won't get to practice before the first game (8:00 am on Saturday). DH and I are making him practice dribbling, but it's obviously not even close to the same as practicing shooting or running drills with his team.

Yeah, my girls both have a swim meet Saturday, so we’ll see how it goes. They’ll be able to practice on Friday and we’ve been doing a workout the coaches provided the days we got them to a pool this week - but it’s not the same. This meet is super important for my oldest. She’s running out of time to get her cuts for the State meet. I’m hoping the time off practice this week works as a a little taper and she manages to go faster somehow this weekend!
