cjcouple, I hope you get some answers soon! This is timely for me, as I just got home from the hospital for a gallbladder attack. I'm 36 weeks pregnant and woke up to the most intense pain of my life that just got worse until it was unrelenting.
If I can hijack this thread for a minute, for those who tried to control their flares with diet before surgery, do you have any recommendations? Ideally, I'd deliver and recover before doing the gallbladder surgery, but I'm deathly afraid that pain will come back.
Ugh, I hope you can make it through the rest of your pregnancy before you have to have it removed. My biggest piece of advice would be to keep a food diary of literally everything you eat. Citrus, dairy, and overly rich or greasy foods are primarily what set me off. Try to eat clean and balanced with as many natural ingredients as possible.
Thanks all. I have been extra careful with what I am eating and do feel much, much better. Occasional discomfort but that's it.
My lab work/H Pylori levels came back normal. Just waiting on U/S appt. My PCP was surprised they hadn't scheduled it yet but said call Monday if I don't hear from them. No call yet. I will call Monday.

My pain was mostly in my mid back on the right side and eventually moved to under my ribs on the right side. The attacks usually happened between midnight and 2am. I was pregnant with twins at the time, so they kept thinking it was pregnancy related. I had acid reflux and heartburn which I never had previously. They finally figured it out when I had an attack shortly after the twins were born and I went to the emergency room. It was incredibly painful. The surgery was really easy and the recovery wasn’t bad at all.

My main trigger was greasy foods. I had mine out 4 weeks after my c-section and it wasn’t too bad. I had to take care of the twins and a toddler all day by myself, so I was still lifting a lot against doctors orders. But it didn’t seem to affect anything. I was off pain killers a couple days after surgery.

Triggers for me were greasy, high fat foods. Also egg yolks.
There's always that one person who posts IT'S CANCER..... But when you talked about feeling full fast, I know that's one sign of ovarian and other cancers. My aunt had this and it was a benign ovarian cyst--the size of a fucking grapefruit! So point is, get that shit checked out.

yes, already on it. I went that day and am in middle of being checked. Bloodwork/H Pylori test were fine. Awaiting an ultrasound now. If that is fine, I will be sent to a GI specialist.

I hope you get some answers and are able to return to full health soon.
I just wanted to pop in and say if they don’t find anything “wrong” with your gallbladder and you really think it might be, push for the Hida scab. Your gallbladder could be not functioning correctly and can cause and unrelenting pain.

Thank you so much for this! I had a super easy c section recovery last time and am hoping for the same, so I was hoping I'd be able to do the gallbladder removal while on leave and not have too many issues. I was worried about being on my own, though.

I had mine out 4 months pp after having unexplained issues during/after pregnancy. I also had 2 c-sections. Gallbladder removal was easy and I was back to taking care of the kids the next day. I nursed, and my anesthesiologist said if I was awake, I could nurse (if that is a concern). My triggers were sugar, dairy, and grease. I ate lots of chicken soup, cereal, and beans and rice while waiting for surgery. I could have skim milk, so I cooked with that. I also aimed for easily digestible vegetables as lettuce/salad was a problem.

Awesome, thanks! So far, I've had heartburn the past two days, but thankfully no real pain like before. I'm guessing it was because I was eating any greasy crap rather than cooking. I'm hoping this food log will help me narrow it down.
