I started NROL Supercharged in December, so I do that at 5:30a two weekdays and then once on the weekend. I have been running 3x per week; if I wake up early and run at 5:30a before work, I run 5-ish miles, if I don’t (baby...toddler! wakes up at night, I stay up too late, I have weird time conference calls in AM/PM), I try to run during lunch at work, but can only squeeze in 3-3.5 miles.
I don’t love getting up early and I feel like I have better athletic performance at other times of day, but it works for now. It is the only time that doesn’t usually get taken away from me.
(On a positive note, I have made massive strength gains since I started NROLS - I can do 5x as many push-ups, my kneeling lat pull-down weight has doubled, and I feel like I just look stronger.)
We've found that splitting days works better for us. So I typically have kid duties Sun/Tue/Th and my DH has M/W/F. We alternate Sat. This means that on the night we have duty we manage homework, dinner, and bedtime. This allows the other partner to take care of workouts, have downtime, or plan social nights out. We've done this since the kids were babies and now at 10 & 11, it still works well. Having both of us split various chores every day made us both exhausted and unable to do anything for ourselves.
This is really interesting to me. I’m glad I read this.
We have split by child, which works somewhat - they are six years apart so each has the pros and cons in terms of needs. Also DS’s daycare is on my commute and DD’s school is on the way for H. But it results in both H and I being time constrained on both ends of the day. When we have discussed splitting it up differently, it has always been by AM/PM, but I have not been agreeable to that for the past few years because it hasn’t seemed like a more favorable arrangement to me.
I may propose all or nothing alternating days instead - I can understand how that could benefit both of us. I don’t know why we haven’t explored this option?!
