Fucking nightmare come true people. I was just in a meeting with approx 12 other people, all men. A bizarre number of them bald. And I shift forward to look at something and feel something go horribly awry with my cup and SPLOOSH. AND apparently I was in a weird enough position that it all shot backward in some freakish way, missed my backup pantiliner and just left a blood splash the size of a fucking New York strip steak on the back of my dress. The shenanigans I just engaged in to get out that room...can I just go home now?
Also God bless synthetic fabrics and random patterns. Washed right out in the bathroom sink with cold water, can't see a thing. At least I knew none of the people I was meeting with would walk in on me...
Im throwing this cup away. Catastrophic failure is just too big of a risk.
I am about to head out to my first face to face interview in over 15 years. In the middle of an ice storm.
According to DH (who made it in to work this morning) the side roads are crap, but the main roads are decent.
Here's hoping it goes well! This job looks pretty nifty!
And, I'm pretty sure I bombed it.
Maybe I can scratch this one down to practice? And hope the next time I get a face to face interview it goes more smoothly?
Aww I'm sorry. Interviewing is definitely something most people need practice at to be any good. And even with practice, it's tough. It's also a bit of a crap shoot - I've had phone interviews that I thought went poorly that ended up getting called for an in-person interview, and I've had in-person interviews that I thought went really well and then never heard anything else. So. You never know if they liked you anyway. But if not, definitely don't let that discourage you and just consider yourself that much more prepared for the next one!
Who else watched Abducted in Plain Sight? We watched it last night, and I have so many questions. And I still get the ick shudders if I think about it too much.
I watched it this weekend. As soon as they said "Pocatello, ID" I was like, this dude is Mormon, and 100% the church knew about his shit, and they did nothing but "council" him.
And then...it just got worse. Ugh. Sexual repression makes people do fucked up things (referring to the parents, not the pedo) - and it was worse because the dad looks a lot like my uncle who is the male version of my mom, so, that was weird.
For all you anxious people (I know you are legion on this board) a doctor friend recently posted something really lovely about how much he was enjoying this book (he's reading it because he wanted to pass it along to a patient, but it's a bit too bookish for the patient he had in mind and anyway, none of that is terribly relevant) y'all ARE generally both bookish and anxious, so I thought of you all. At once. I'd tag, but there's too many.

Maybe this morning was the warm-up interview... I think I did better on the phone interview this afternoon (with a different company).

Man, job hunting sucks. I'm so bagged right now.
Yay! I'm glad that one went well.
And I agree, job hunting is the worst. I've done entirely too much of it in the last few years so I completely empathize. It's especially tough when you aren't doing it by choice. Hang in there ,something good will eventually come along!
audette, so sorry about the interview. I bet it wasn't as bad as you think.
Oh and my random is separation related... again. What a small town I live in. I logged onto FB last night and there was a picture at one of our local breweries (that I follow on FB) of their tap room during trivia night. Guess who was front-and-center at the bar - STBXH and his girlfriend having beers together. Taken almost the same time as we tried to call him to say goodnight and to talk about a rental house we're selling...and surprise, he didn't answer. Oddly, it was kind of good for me to see - I don't miss this STBXH, I miss a different one who doesn't really exist right now (or anymore), so I wasn't even really that sad, just miffed that he is on public dates and all-in on his new relationship 1 month after our 20 years together. I decided to bring it up here and nowhere else b/c it's best to just not feed into that ish with our mutual friends IRL.

All of it was so awful.
SO AWFUL. I genuinely hope Jan found it helpful in her healing process but my lord! Accidental handjobs, “alien” abductors, Mormons, Mexican prisons- it had everything! It was like the worst Stefan club ever.
It just took me two hours to make it home in the snow. I ended up leaving later than I wanted because I needed to wrap up some things since I was scheduled for jury duty tomorrow. And then I called the hotline and it’s freaking canceled. I’m so mad! Not only do I miss out an a 15 minute commute (instead of an hour), I don’t get to sit and read and be left alone AND I could have gotten home an hour earlier. Mother forking shirtballs!

I feel you! Job hunting is such a mind fuck too. I have been rejected from 2 jobs where I, 1. had 4 former coworkers who work at the company put in recommendations for me and 2. be told on Monday we would be setting up an in person interview and then told on Friday they went a different direction. Both jobs are still posted, so I don't get it.
My random, I just got a call from a recruiter about a position that would require a significant commute. I don't feel like I am in a position to not go through the interview process since I so desperately need a job.

What do you guys use for a driving directions app? I was using Google maps but last time, it diverted me due to construction/congestion without giving me a heads up into an area i didn't really want to drive through. Is Waze any good?

My sister likes Waze for Boston area the best. I think it does give her options to get off the route.
We used Siri in LA a couple months ago and we did not get notice that we were being diverted through downtown on the way to Hollywood area. It was funny, all of a sudden we just were in downtown.
Oh and fun fact... I thought Waze was not pronounced "ways" but "Wa-zee" (like a street in Denver area). So the first time I talked to someone about Waze, I said, "I just installed Wa-zee and it seems pretty user friendly if your mom isn't great with phones." The other person just sat there amazed and then burst out laughing and said, "Wait, did you think Waze was pronounced Wa-zee?!" I did.

Waze is owned by Google, so I don't know how they are that different other than the social aspect.

HA! I wonder if this is a CO thing, cause I definitely pronounce it Wa-zee.

I personally find Google Maps easier to use, but Waze is more accurate. MH is all in for Waze and won't even open GM anymore.
My random is that I've wanted to do both of these things at work today:

I hope it went better than you thought. Good luck.
I had my first in seven years last week. I'm crossing my fingers and holding out hope that I'm the only person who applied for the job since it's part time. Because I landed fifteen minutes late for the interview even though I was twenty minutes early to the parking garage. It was full so I had to park in a lot across the street, which meant mincing across sludge, snow and ice in heels to pay at the kiosk, then mince back to my truck to put the receipt on my dash, then back across the parking lot, down and across the street, then had to follow a detour to get to the doors to enter...which turned out they were under construction so I had to walk around the block to get to the proper doors...which back when there wasn't construction were for attorneys only and not the general population, which is why I headed to the "proper" doors (under construction) in the first place. Because I'd been at the court often enough back in the day to know where to go, but not recent enough to know that there was a new "where to go."
My husband closed the office for the last two days due to snow. Everybody back east is making fun of the Seattle folks for being wusses and afraid of the snow. Folks here don't know how to drive in decent weather but when you get ice and slush, and downtown Seattle has tens of thousands of commuters on the second-hilliest downtown in the nation (streets have hills of up to 15-19 degree grades all along downtown from the waterfront toward the freeway, plus some crazy awkward twists and turns) it's downright hazardous. He did open the office today because the ice and snow is now mere slush. Here's to no more snow in the immediate future.

I hope you aced the interview, and that they simply ignore the lateness due to the weather and construction. Because, come-on, _everyone_ know the PNW is not designed or prepared for heavy snow dumps at the low elevations. They get them so rarely it would be a waste of resources...
I had to work last night so I made extra cupcakes for the flight attendants since it's Valentine's Day. A guy at my kitchen asked if I was going to claim them as my emotional support cupcakes to get them on the plane. lol

We got home from being out of town at 1 am this morning and discovered that our mailbox was completely destroyed by a plow (like, we had to dig through the snowbanks to find the remnants of it). This is the third time this has happened in the last few years.
Then, because we got a foot of snow while we were gone and our driveway hadn't been plowed we got stuck at the top of the driveway.
My medications that I cannot go without, which were requested from the mail-order pharmacy almost 3 weeks ago still haven't arrived.
My new car had the windshield crack across. Since replacing the windshield also apparently requires recalibrating the front camera it's going to be ~$800 to replace, and naturally none of this is covered by the warranty.
We sent a few postcards home from Mexico City two months ago. One arrived two weeks ago and another just came yesterday. How can they claim we don't have good border security when even a postcard has a hard time getting through!
I got a Panera promo email about their new "double bread bowl" for soup, so two people can share.
No thank you.
I heard about this on the radio this morning. I can't imagine slurping over one plate with anyone. And if I ordered it for just myself I think I would die from all that bread (and I uh....really love bread).
Teachers or lawyers or social workers who have to tote way too many files around...what kind of bag do you use?
Still shopping for my soon to be a public defender sister's law school graduation present. Torn between kickass classic briefcase kinda deally for court days and big bag for toting way too much shit around to places like the jail. Also my sister is pocket sized so something like the dagne legend would dwarf her.
It's not a bag or anything useful, however, when my friend's sister graduated from law school, he got her a customized bobblehead for her desk. She absolutely loved it. LOVED IT.
