((( Susie ))) I also lost one of my moms (raised by 2 and no dad) to ovarian cancer and every time I’ve been pregnant it kills me that the boys won’t ever know her.
Thank you everyone, I know they can be inaccurate, but I’m still nervous, especially with having gestational diabetes. Does my weight gain have any bearing on it? I’ve only gained about 18 pounds.
I had GD, too, so I TOTALLY get being nervous about that. I gained what I thought was a lot of weight and it had no bearing on DS's size. Mine ended up being a TON of water weight (I lost 20 pounds between the day before I delivered and 5 days later). I gained somewhere between 25-30 pounds. I'm sorry that this is stressing you out.

knx9211, at about 8 weeks, a random woman who works at my tutoring center was all, "How are you feeeeeelllinnng?" so it was pretty obvious I guess. I was like, "Great! How do you feel?" and she gave me such a confused face . Granted, I was in maternity pants at about 7 weeks last time, too, just because I couldn't deal with anything on my stomach or I'd throw up, but I could still fit in my regular jeans until about 20 weeks, unlike this time.
Susie, I'm sorry, but fuck that lady. I would have had trouble holding my tongue.
pandorica, we just used the changing pad that came on our changing table, no covers or anything. I wipe it with a Clorox wipe every so often and it's fine. DS has basically been changed everywhere, though, without an issue. This time, we got this one and it seems okay (haven't used it obviously). It's definitely more cushiony than my son's. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00PTLAVAY/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00__o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Susie I'm sorry, she is so insensitive. People are so often so focused on themselves that they just don't even think, and it's crappy when you end up in one of those conversations. I'm so sorry, for you having to listen to that and for everything you have gone through with losing your mother. If she brings it up again I would find a reason to exit the conversation, or try to tell her why it's hurtful for you to hear. But be prepared that with someone like that that trying to talk to her about it may just backfire - there was a nice older woman at my church who kept telling me how LIllaA was getting older and needed a sibling and all that, and finally I was like, you know, I had a really horrible loss a few months ago and I'd really rather not talk about this. And that instead just led to her telling me all about her miscarriage years ago and blah blah - often people who are insensitive like that just do not catch on.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Symphysis pubis pain is killing me, plus I feel like my IT bands are super tight or something? When I lay down every night my legs just kill. I'm having a hard time sleeping all together. I am going for a tour of the birthing inn that I'll be delivering at tonight though, and I'm excited about that. Trying to remember what questions I need to ask and what I cared about the last time I gave birth, ha.
3. Questions for the group? Second (or more) time moms - what are you putting on registries? I'm getting two sprinkles and people want to know if I'm registering, and I'm sort of at a loss for what to put down. We need a baby bathtub, and I'd like a white noise machine (any recs?) but beyond that I'm not sure. We did get rid of most bigger baby things in our last move, but we also don't have a lot of space right now to store a bunch of baby stuff that we won't need until he's a little older.
4. Cravings? Aversions? With DD I craved cutie oranges, with this baby I constantly want an orange julius!
speyedr my numbers weren’t doubling at the beginning like they should either, but it turned out fine! I hope yours is the same!
knx9211 my SCH also got bigger before it resolved. It’s a scary feeling, but I am sure it will be ok! I was also told after, that apparently the chances of having a SCH is higher in IVF pregnancies but I am not really sure the reason behind it (or if that is totally accurate). There were a few other girls in my cycle that did have them though as well and we have all had them resolve with no issues.
Susie I am sorry she said that to you and that you lost your mom. That was so insensitive. (hugs)
WAIT I do have a question! S/T/FTM, when did you start showing? I am 8 weeks tomorrow and out of my damn pants and I feel huge. I'm on a ton of progesterone, so maybe it's mostly bloat but I am having a hard time hiding this in any of my outfits at work.. or anywhere.
I’m the opposite; I think I finally wore non-maternity pants for the last time yesterday at 25+4, but they were at least 1 if not 2 sizes up from my pre-pregnancy size (I lost ~35lb between #2 and getting pregnant with #3 so I have a bunch of clothes that should fit me by weight, just not the proper distribution 😂). By 1PM, after I ate lunch, I was dyyyying. I didn’t need maternity pants at all until 18-20w - I had no belly to hold them up - and I wore a non-maternity top yesterday and it was fine.

I want to wear my normal clothes!
My shirts are ok. My pants are just.. not. To be fair, I wear my pants (especially jeans) preeeeeetty tight. And while I can close them, it just makes me nervous to have them squeezing my stomach. So I'm just trying to hide behind high-waisted skirts at work.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for this week? Went to MFM yesterday, blood pressure was high. Took it a 2nd time, still high (this never happens, my BP is always perfect). They then did a growth scan, baby is measuring way ahead at 7.5 lbs. He also has a full head of hair (but no heartburn). Then they checked my BP a 3rd time and it was normal, so no L&D trip for me, thank goodness. Scared DH enough that when I got home, he finally agreed to order nursery furniture 🙄 Had a prenatal massage last week and it helped my sciatica pain so much. I would have one weekly if I could afford it! First baby shower is this weekend. Somewhat looking forward to it.
3. Questions for the group? How am I going to make it to the last week of March? (They already said I’m being induced at 39 weeks). I’m going to give birth to the Micheline baby!
Kid2 was measured to be around 7.5lb at 34w and came out 9lb 11oz at 38+6. However a week before, the u/s said 10lb 14oz, off the charts head and chest/shoulders. My OB’s nurse was predicting he’d be the hospital’s first 12lber that year. Luckily I did not birth a child that looked like a 3 month old, but he’s 2y7m and roughly the same size as about half of my 4.5yo’s preschool classmates and I get asked if they’re twins all the time. Oh and his head is still off the charts big - he wears the equivalent of a men’s small (6 5/8).
For those worried that big baby means an automatic c section or medicated delivery, don't worry! I had an 11lb baby with 99% head, and a 10.1lb baby with a (I think) 75% head naturally. I did tear but it was a shallow 2nd degree both times.

You are braver than I, lady. After a 7lb 9ozer the first time, I jumped at a c/s with my #2. For #3, going for a repeat also means easier access for getting my tubes out. I am not doing this ever again.

I would be lying if I said a scheduled csection was not on my mind so I could get my tubes tied at the same time!
Thank you guys. It's obviously pretty raw still for me, and she touched a nerve. She and I have both worked here for 10-15 years, so she knew the whole time when my mom was sick and when she died 3 years ago, so it particularly set me off this morning.

This time around, I was in maternity pants at like 8-9 weeks but I think bloat likely played a part. Using a belly band or the hair tie trick just wasn't comfortable. I was able to camoflage at work a little better since we wear t-shirts a lot, but after the NIPT testing came back good I quit hiding.

This is my fourth pregnancy and each of my first 3 I showed earlier and earlier. I’m 6+2 and there isn’t any sign of a belly yet but I’m guessing it isn’t far off. With my 3rd I was using a belly band or rubber bands by 8 weeks.

I feel like I keep catching people looking at my stomach at work. I know I'm paranoid but STOP IT. Luckily I took Thursday off and then I'll only have 7-8 days in the office that I need to keep hiding.
Is there really a difference between a $15 vs $50 changing pad? It seems like it shouldn't matter because either way it will have a changing pad cover over it, but I don't want to cheap out if there's an important difference. What pad are you using?
We had a $20 one for DD with various covers. When she was a newborn the covers were in the laundry a lot, so we needed like 3-4 to rotate. It kind of grossed me out during the early liquid poop months, but was otherwise fine. By the time she was done using a changing table though, it had buckled from the fitted covers, so it wasn't in good enough condition to keep for kid #2.
This time treated myself to a Keekaroo peanut changer. I really like the "Clorox wipe and it's clean" approach. I'm reusing so much of the big stuff - crib/mattress, glider, changing table dresser, infant car seat, convertible car seats, PNP, etc. etc. - that I'm making a few splurges on the things I am buying new. I used a 20% coupon at BBB + 2% back on ebates, so it wasn't quite as outrageous as sticker price. It's probably also not THAT much more than I'd have spent on a new pad + 3-4 new covers that are a color other than purple.

pooh8402 (or anyone with experience), I have a question.
I've had a run of the mill cold that's finally tapering off. It was just congestion and runny nose (clear), no fever or real coughing (the baby likes to be as high as possible, which makes me cough). DS now has this cold, same symptoms, minus any coughing. He's happy and in great spirits.
What should I do to protect the new baby? I have a call in to the ped, too, but they're only going to be apart until probably Friday or Saturday. To complicate things, my mom seems to have caught the cold and she's taking care of DS while we're in the hospital.
cherryvalance, there's not a whole lot you can do other than washing hands frequently (both you and your DS) and minimizing contact between DS and the new baby. I've cared for moms with colds, flu, etc who are not separated from their newborns. Also, if you're planning to breastfeed, that can have some protective effect.

Thanks! That's what I figured, but I'm glad you confirmed. Should I ask my mom to wear a mask or anything? That seems dramatic, lol, but this winter baby anxiety is no joke.
For those of you that are AMA (closer to 40) what are they telling you about induction? I had a conversation with my OB today and he said their standard practice is to induce women over age 35 at 38 or 39 weeks due to increased risk of Stillbirth. When I pushed him on what the "risk" actually was it's like an increase from .01% to .018% or something COMPLETELY effing arbitrary. My jaw dropped and a total argument ensued. Why the eff would I put myself through an induction and a dramatic increase in C-section risk for the slighted increase in stillbirth risk?
I'm still ragey and trying my best to asses the research. He's not WRONG, the risks do increase the closer you get to 40 but it's such a marginal increase I'm surprised he's pushing this sh*t already at 25 weeks.
Again, it shows the risks increase and that if I'm going to be induced, 38/39 weeks will likely have the best outcome, but I cannot find any evidence that is dramatically swaying my feelings on this.
I don't want an induction without true cause. I have my heart set on a med-free birth (which I FULLY UNDERSTAND could be eliminated if an emergency arises) but to be induced without cause is just setting me up for failure for no real reason.
I'm just venting here, and I'm sure some people will think I'm being ridiculous but I'm so damned tired of the fear-mongering. I have no other risk factors at this point.

Probably not, tbh. My assumption is that your mom is cognizant of washing hands, covering coughs, etc.
I would keep hand sanitizer available at all times. That's what I'm doing.
Officially low risk pregnancy now! No cholestasis, induction scheduled for March 17 or 18 (I'll be 40w3d or 40w4d). No one thinks I'll make it that far but I do have an end in sight!
