How is my child supposed to rub in his own sunscreen on his back? He isn't going to ask his friends, and other 8 year old boys aren't going to do this for him, and the camp counselors are prohibited. I keep telling my mom this; she just doesn't get it, and has made it her personal mission to find something that I don't think exists (reasonably priced, not have to rub in, spray mineral sunscreen). I am totally willing to buy mineral for non camp and for the facial sticks. I just can't figure out how to make it work and not spend $30 a week on sunscreen (2 kids). Plus they totally lose their sunscreen bottles a billion times as well at camp. I need to find labels for them, because sharpie does not work. It just rubs off. I'll look up this sunscreen though. I was looking on Amazon.
Is he swimming shirtless? I'm curious about the back issue since my kids have never mentioned it. My son just wears a rash guard and does his own sunblock and he was fine all summer. My daughter is a rash guard convert too. She has some more conventional suits but strongly prefers the guard.
He did wear a rash guard when he was smaller, but now yes shirtless. I think all the other boys are also shirtless, so it's a peer thing for him. I worked with him last summer on spraying on the sunscreen, so it sounds like we have to have a "class" on it this year before camp with several sessions. Things just get really hectic there- with tons in the lost and found, and by the end of the summer- forget it lol there are like 30 bottles of sunscreen in the lost and found and they were just handing whichever ones back to parents. The counselors were like just take any bottle.
Can I just say a camp not having the kids in rash guards at the pool is bananas to me? The idea of having to deal with all those potential sunburns...yikes. I’m so grateful both of my kids (DS and DD) are perfectly content swimming in tops. I just bought a couple for myself too!
Edit to add that my perspective is from having a very white kid that will burn quickly at a camp where he spends hours in the pool. I understand that other complexions are a bit more forgiving when it comes to burns (unseen sun damage is a different issue).

My son even wears one inside. He strongly prefers to wear one.

Ditto. Mine will basically wear whatever bathing suit I hand them. I'm so thankful that they don't have super strong opinions on clothes yet. And our summer camp has an indoor pool, which makes life much easier too.
During the spring/summer we are really busy with weekend plans - either get always or hosting. It sounds like fun but it means that we have to get everything done during the week. Using the weekend for chores and errands sounds like such a luxury to me !
Laundry - I love the way I do laundry now. It never builds up. I do 2 loads a week before/after work for darks and lights. I strip the beds 1x week before work and dry them when I get home and re-make before bedtime (no folding). Same with towels.
Groceries- DH does the grocery shopping on Sundays in the winter and it’s wondeeful. It SUCKS when spring/summer hits and we have to do it during the week, but we squeeze it in.
Library - We have an after-hours book drop for returns. It’s rare that I ever return books at the same time as a visit. And we visit about 1x a month and that’s an after school/work trip.
Errands - My lunch hour. I do get a full hour off, so that’s lucky. And I’m on the road for work some days, so I can plan to go to the nearest post office or Staples or Target. Once, I sent a print job for the PTA to a Staples in a city an hour away because I had a training there and it was easier to pick-up the flyers on my way home.
Lessons - Almost all Mon-Thursday. Once a week, I leave early or use personal time to make this work. H, too.
Cleaning - We have a cleaning person every 2 weeks on Thursdays. This really forces us to clean/pick-up on Wednesdays. I de-cluttered this year and it has been LIFE CHANGING with how much easier it is to clean. I use/toss fridge stuff consistently but only do a big cleaning 2x/year.
Food prep - At night. I enjoy cooking but keep it simple. I pack my lunch most nights or early in the morning.
ALSO - Apparently everyone does this but I found it SHOCKING when I discovered this and did it. So, I run the dishwasher at good TIMES for me, even if it’s not 100% full. This completely re-oriented my ability to keep the kitchen clean. I use a 30-minute short cycle which gets everything sparkly. It’s not such a project to unload and dishes don’t pile up in the sink.
