I don’t know that I’m using the correct terminology, but can someone explain how this will work?
Last cycle was the first time I was prescribed a trigger shot. I picked it up from where they told me to go, and had to pay OOP. Insurance wouldn’t cover because a) they needed a prior authorization and b) they will only fill from their specialized pharmacy which is a mail order pharmacy, apparently.
So how would this work? Last time my RE wrote my ovidrel prescription the day I needed it so obviously getting it in the mail the same day wouldn’t happen. I’m sure I’m not the only one to experience this, so what have other people done?
They can ship overnight. Your RE should be able to call it in at the beginning of your cycle or within a few days of starying and the specialty pharmacy mails it overnight shipping. Most of the time i received all of my meds feom the specialty pharmacy prior to starting my medicated cycle. Ive done this with CVS and Cigna.

My meds were all from specialty pharmacies that overnighted me the meds after they were called in, usually at the end of the previous cycle or beginning of the next. If you have to use something like Caremark, get your authorizations asap because in my experience they are slow with paperwork and calling you back.
If you have to pay oop, you can call around to pharmacies to get the best prices.

My prescription benefits require that certain items be filled through their mail-order facility. I won't lie, it was total bullshit at times, even though I realized I'm lucky to have the benefits.
I made sure the nurses at my clinic understood that I have mail-order benefits and would need everything upfront or ordered quickly. They were great. It took A LOT of calling the benefits provider and making sure they could rush things to me when needed. Truthfully, everyone was really helpful, but it just took a lot of leg work on my part to be sure things were delivered on time.
