I just signed up for a capital one savor that has a $500 bonus after spending $3,000 in 3 months. I will cancel it after that as it has an annual fee and I like my chase better but this is an amazing sign on bonus!
That's a great credit card bonus! We're in the middle of meeting the spending requirement on a CC bonus right now, but may sign up if it's still around in another month.
Note: The Chase checking/savings deal counts as "interest income" and they will issue a 1099-INT at the end of the year. Credit card bonuses are typically considered cash back and not taxable.
Love of my life baby boy born 11/11. One and done not by choice; 3 years of TTC yielded 4 MMC and 2 CPs, through 4 IUIs and 2 IVFs. Focusing on making the world a better place instead...and running.

Do you do many bank account bonuses? I see this topic discussed a lot on doctor of credit (e.g.: www.doctorofcredit.com/best-bank-account-bonuses/ ) but I've been reluctant to jump in due to what I see as a lot of hassle & tracking.

I'm in the midst of my first one right now (the one I linked). They already deposited $300 in the Checking account - it within a few days once I met the requirements. Now I'm waiting for the 90 days to pass to earn the other $300. I set a reminder on my calendar to check status when the 90 days is up. I'll set another reminder to close down the account at the 6 month mark. Pretty simple thus far!
I'm interested in signing up for this credit card....do we know how (and when) the $500 cash back is given -- is it a credit on your statement after the third month? Are there any restrictions on what you spend to get to the $3k in the first 3 months? kanga1 ,farmvillelover ,Mushe ,
How do I earn rewards?
You will earn 4% cash back on dining and qualified entertainment purchases, 2% cash back on purchases made at grocery stores and 1% cash back on all other purchases. Grocery purchases made at gas stations, convenience stores, warehouse clubs, discount stores, and super stores (or at grocery stores associated with discount stores or super stores) will earn 1% cash back. Earnings will apply to net purchases (purchases minus any credits or returns) only. Capital One uses merchant category codes to determine if a purchase is within one of the above categories. Merchants determine the merchant category code used to identify transactions, which could impact the amount of cash back you earn. Capital One is not responsible for merchant category codes used by merchants. Cash advances, balance transfers, and checks used to access your account are not considered purchases and will not earn rewards.
How does my spend bonus work?
You will earn a $500 bonus if you spend at least $3,000 within 3 months of your rewards membership enrollment date. Once you qualify for this bonus, we will apply it to your rewards balance within two billing cycles. Existing or previous Accountholders may not be eligible for this one-time bonus.
How do I redeem my rewards?
You can get your cash back upon request in the form of a statement credit or a check. You can also set up an automatic redemption preference; options include: (1) at a set time each calendar year or (2) when a specific threshold ($25, $50, $100 or $200) has been reached. Just go online to capitalone.com or contact our Rewards Center. You can also redeem for credits for previous purchases, gift cards, and more. Rates for these redemption options may vary and are subject to change without notice.
**The 2% earn rate excludes superstores like Walmart® and Target®
Sooo would you keep this card or close it to avoid paying the $95 ?
I don't really need an additional card; we don't dine out all that much and when we do I use my chase sapphire for 3% which I'm good with.
I'm going to close mine after the $500 bonus. I also plan on using it at restaurants until I close it rather than my chase sapphire though. An extra 1% is still 1%!

Yep I’m closing it once I get the $500 bonus! Alps79

I've never opened a card just for the bonus, but this one is so easy that I did. Also planning to use it for groceries & restaurants till I get the $500 and then close it.
I just applied. I typically don't consider us "credit card churners", but this seemed like a no brainer. I can throw the daycare bill on there for a few months and then cancel before a year is up. We don't eat out much so keeping it long term seems silly.
We have a few old cards I probably should go in and cancel. Our main card is the Costco Visa. Costco4lyfe!
Wow, I think I might do this. If I sign up before I have to pay next year's dance tuition than I'll have no problem meeting the minimum for the $500. farmvillelover, remind me on twitter :-)
Got my card earlier this week. Never have I had a heavier credit card than this one. It's made of metal! So serious!
This was my thought...apparently they want to weigh down our wallets to get $500
My first thought was that it's intentional because the biggest rewards category is restaurants so that when a group goes out and everybody throw their cards into a pile people notice it because it's so heavy.
I'm just wondering how the heck I'm supposed to shred that thing when I cancel it in 3 months!

If it's like the chase ones you can request an envelope to send it back to them for shredding. I never do, and instead have a little pile of them at home.

liteningme, I would imagine you would lose the points for any returns, that is how my other points card works. But charges that go through and you pay off would all be fine.
For this card, I hit the $3,000 two weeks ago in one purchase (I opened the card specifically for this) and the cash back is already credited in my account.
I finally did it and applied for the card! I'm kind of irritated with myself, though because now the reward is $300 instead of $500. I'm still grateful for the free money, but kicking myself that I lost out on an extra $200.
Yup, I hit $3000 and I had the $500 credit to my account Love free money! I'll probably use this card for the summer for dining out only since we prob tend to eat out more over the summer and I'll cancel in the fall. Thanks to whoever posted this CC!
ETA- I guess I'll use this for the full year and cancel prior to the annual charge kicking in. 4% cash back is better than 3% on my Chase Sapphire Reserve.

. Remember that if you redeem chase rewards for travel that 3% becomes 4.5%.

I am really glad you posted! I do use those points for travel and really covet them. I hadn't thought of that. (I use them for hotels.) Sooooo back to Chase I go!
I'm bumping this as PSA to close your card if you don't want to pay the annual fee as it's been almost a year.
Also--for anyone who has closed it how did you dispose of the card? I can't shred it since it's metal. Am I an idiot if I just put it into my trash? I mean...the account is closed. Could they really do anything with it?
