I'm a size 4, not overweight. My calves are gigantic! Just showing that it really doesn't matter what size you are. I've never bothered to purchase nice, tall boots because I always end up so frustrated after trying them on.

And the flipside is true too. I’m a size 12/14 and have really narrow calves. Boots are always slouchy on me…even the ones that aren’t supposed to be.
I complain about my weight and would like to drop a few lbs, but I'm a size 4-6, and even when I wore a size 2, I needed special boots. I have always hated my legs, and my mom has always reminded me to be grateful that I can walk.
She had a point. I have huge legs, but they work well.
Don't get caught up in the downward spiral of overanalyzing calf size.
I don't think calf size necessarily corresponds to weight. I have scrawny calves and can't ever find boots that don't gap terribly on me, and I while I am not overweight, I am not a tiny wisp of a girl or anything.

I think you either have large calves or not, for the most part. I'm a size 12 right now and my calves are 17", even when I was thinner and a size 8 they were still 15". It stinks!

I am a 14. Last year i went to Avenue (plus size store) and no joke i tried on every style boot they had in the store and none of them fit my calves. I had an hour long bitch session with the girl who worked there about it. No wonder they had tons in stock because girls who would fit in those boots wouldn't ever shop in a plus size store.
What's really annoying is that in my experience, the "nicer" the brand of boot, the narrower their default shaft circumference is. So a mainstream brand available at Macy's may make their boots with a 14" circumference, but a designer sold at Nordstrom does a 13" circumference.
My calves are just over 14" and I've come across a few pairs that don't fit, but I've had AWESOME luck with Born boots. I think they run a little wider than most other brands.

I just got back from DSW and they had a few pairs of wide calf boots, and one non-wide calf that fit (barely) my 16.5" - 17" calves. They weren't ugly, either! Or my favorite - the wide calf boots with the doublewide ankles. Just because my calves are wide doesn't mean I also have cankles.
I think most sites list the circumference, at least sites like Zappos, Endless, Piperlime, etc. I know this because I've scoured these sites and have not yet found a pair of boots that are $150 or less that are large enough for my calves (I forget their width, I want to say something like 17 inch).
I recently bought a pair on Lane Bryant that miraculously fit me and I can even wear jeans under them. They were only $80 and I got a coupon code to make them more like $60. They are not my dream boot but they are cute enough.
I am a size 12-14 but like others even at a size 8-10 I could never find boots that fit me. I don't think my calves change much with my weight either. Maybe now that I'm a "runner" there will be a slight difference due to muscle tone.
