I am all in for Warren, but my dark horse is Yang. I haven't really dug in deep for him because he is so unlikely to get anywhere, but all of his policy ideas resonate with me - the "Human Centered Capitalism" is my jam. Probably too idealistic, but, I dunno, there has to be an ultimate goal, right? I know that it bothers people that non politicians jump into the BIG race as their first shot, but I am less concerned with that - He went to law school/was a lawyer before starting businesses, so, at least he understands the law.
Yang is another I could see in the Cabinet. Something economics-y (yes, that’s a technical term).
I have concerns with his stance against circumcision. I don't understand why there's a policy position on this issue and it makes me nervous.
It almost seems like he puts up a policy position one whatever he is asked about...I mean, there is one about MMA fighters. lol
Which, honestly, I don't hate. We have all opinions on many issues, and if wants to let people know where he stands, its okay with me. I am annoyed when I find a candidate who is great on one or two issues, but either hasn't seemed to think about anything else or the don't want to vocalize what they think or they have bat shit crazy ideas. I mean, maybe other people think Ynag's ideas on all the policy positions he has listed are bat shit crazy, and that's okay. I know he won't go far, but I wouldn't hate it if he pushed the UBI idea along a bit more
The alt right was very excited about this position.

I also picked Yang because we're being idealistic here. I've heard some criticism of his particular UBI proposal, but he's the one guy who is really talking about it. Just like Inslee is all about the environment, Yang is all about economic inequality in the face of coming automation. There's a good NY Times article I was reading about his policies. He doesn't have a ton of fully fleshed out policies when it comes to other matters, which he could certainly be criticized for, but the economic stuff is just SO intriguing. Think tanks believe by 2030 we'll start to see some really painful impacts from automation. Yang claims we're 5-10 years away from autonomous vehicles basically eliminating long-haul trucking as a career and putting all those people out of work.
Plus, his hats say MATH, and I joke my husband should get one since he's a mathematician.
My other choices are the much more normal Warren, Harris and Castro. My next tier would probably be Gillibrand and Booker.
For the rest of my life, there are a very limited number of straight white men I will vote for in primaries all the way down the ballot. I am done otherwise.
I say limited because I will keep voting for Jamie Raskin and maybe Chris Van Hollen in primaries.
In general elections I’ll vote straight D (which I vowed during the Clinton impeachment).

Warren and Harris are my top two. I’ve been really impressed with what Warren has been putting out, and the level of thought and planning that’s gone into figuring out all the details for how her ideas would be implemented.
I’m not going to lie, I’m borderline horrified at the number of votes Biden has on here. Yuck.
I'm feeling the same way about Buttigieg. He's like every basic white male politician. The other day he was out there decrying democrats for playing identity politics. *side eye*

He is not my favorite on so many levels, but I admit I still tear up when I think too hard about what his candidacy as a (white, male) gay person. It's meaningful on a lot of levels even if he isn't my cup of tea. It's limited progress but it's not something I imagined we'd even see in my lifetime and I'm continually blown away that there are so many people out there who would like to see him in the White House.
I suspect his run will be fairly short-lived, but the fact that he was in at all could have a lasting impact on American electoral politics.
Edit: Part of what fascinates me about Buttigieg is that I tend to think his approach to dealing with moderates - and, frankly, being a moderate - is informed in some way by meaning-making around his sexuality as someone who lives in the midwest. I might be reading too much into it but it comes across to me as a defense mechanism in a way that the same statements from a white male straight politician would not, and that I would find to be blatantly offensive in another context but that I find more understandable coming from him.
Harris should be doing so much better. I feel like she's being too political in her answers and speeches instead of just speaking candidly. She isn't coming off as authentic. Nonetheless, she's still in my top 4, with Warren, Buttigieg, and Castro.

Agreed. I was disappointed by her 'I'd like to have that conversation' non-answer to a couple of questions at the CNN town hall I watched. If she stopped doing that I would be behind her more. Your top four is also mine.

I agree. I'm seeing this again and again from her. I love her and I've seen her do SO MUCH BETTER, so it is disappointing to see her play it so safe. And she's still in my top three because I know she would be a kick ass president if she got into office.
I really hope Castro picks up some traction. He’s my #3 after Warren and Harris.
I picked him as my 3rd pick solely due to his Lovett or Leave It appearance this weekend (I couldn't really land on a 4th, so I just picked 3). I knew nothing about him prior.

As the leader of the Vampire Caucus, I was very pleased to hear Castro say that he would not adopt DST year-round.

I did not know this. If any candidate suggests doing away with DST, I would become their biggest campaigner ever.

Jon Lovett's issue is staying on DST year-round. Yang unequivocally and without hesitation supported this. Castro said he likes it getting dark earlier. (I'm team Castro, FWIW.)

I'm 100% on Jon Lovett's side. So I was not super thrilled with that answer, but I did laugh at the reaction from the audience and Castro.
Will likely change after debates or, you know, tomorrow. I just have them that way because I want Warren to debate Trump and Harris to debate Pence but I’d be happy if Harris was the top and Warren VP, too.
Whenever I hear Harris, I always think, “if I didn’t know she was an attorney, I would certainly be able to guess it.” She hedges and uses vaguer, “safe” language too much. Warren is IN THERE speaking her mind, and that is why I switched my preference recently.

I like them both but don't want them on the same ticket. Harris can do so much more as my senator than as VP. Warren as well. The right cabinet level position would be a different matter. AG for Harris and/or Treasury for Warren.

Same. I love Harris though. I want her to take off her lawyer hat and let go on all of this nonsense.
