Yes, it was so haunting watching the flashback scenes knowing those men died. The way that Jared Harris's character explained how the meltdown occurred was awesome.
The whole series is so well done. I think this is some of the best tv I've seen in a long time. The writing, the directing, the acting... all of it is flawless.
Twitter thread talking about the accuracy of the production design:
"I have just finished watching Episode 1 of Chernobyl on @hbo. My perspective is that of someone born and raised in the Soviet Union who has vivid memories of 1986, the catastrophe itself and how it was handled by the Soviet politicians and the state media..."
I'm quoting this because reading Slava Malamud's tweets after watching each episode really added to the story. The commentary on all of the details in the show (which I wouldn't have completely noticed w/o him pointing them out) is incredibly fascinating. I highly recommend reading all of his threads on each episode!

I thought the ending was great. I really enjoyed watching all the episodes.
Do you think they could do another miniseries about some other aspect? Perhaps they could talk about how life continued after or how life is now? This could be difficult to do because they kind of touched on it a bit at the end. I’d really like to see how the head manager in charge that night (can’t remember his name) as a main character lived out his life. I know he lived until 2005, but I wonder if they have more info on this...

Anatoly Dyatlov. He died in 1995. He went to prison after Chernobyl.

The podcast for ep 5 talks about him quite a bit.
Oh, I need to listen to that podcast. For some reason I thought he lived until 2005.
But still I’d like to see how they carried out their lives.

I feel really dumb, but I didn't realize how bad the disaster was. The Soviets had 31 as the death toll for years, and I've heard more than one pro-nuclear energy commentator refer to Chernobyl as the "worst disaster - which only took a few dozen lives". It's not like I thought it was a tromp through the roses, and I was aware that the area is evacuated forever, but I still didn't realize.
