I'm taking DS to a local parade on Saturday and then dinner with my parents on Sunday. Other than that, I'm excited to spend time with DS. I should get more unpacking and organizing done in my new house.
Random: A cold case murder that was from my home town was solved a couple of years ago and the verdict for the suspect on trial was reached today. Guilty! I was in 3rd grade when it happened, so a long time coming for justice. The girl's mom was my bus driver and it shook our community of less than 300 people.
Nothing! Which sounds so amazingly decadent with all the dance classes and baseball we have been going to lately. Not to mention all the family trips back home due to SIL's wedding reception #3, MIL breaking her ankle, and my Grandma's funeral. All weekend trips (10 hours driving roundtrip).
I am sort of exaggerating, we do have a haircut for DS on Sat, and a babysitter coming so we can have a date night. I might end up at Ikea sometime this weekend. I might take DD to see Aladdin or Pikachu Detective, especially if we are supposed to get 7 days of rain predicted. I might do something crafty and work on DS's cub scout banner I am making him. DD has a bath bomb craft kit we could make. If we have breaks from rain we might go on an outing. Whatever....But I am not making concrete plans for anything besides haircut and babysitter.
ETA- supertrooper1, I am glad the cold case was solved. My uncle passed away in 89, I believe and it is a cold case. The detective called but Grandma didn't want to talk about it. My mom didn't get his information. I suppose if my mom at least knows the town we could call and get information on it, maybe. I didn't know if they found anything out or not, I think they just re-open cold cases every once in a while but with DNA testing so much better than it was back then...

It is the surface of the sun outside and 40% humidity and dear god why do I live here again? It’ll be 98 by Tuesday. We are spending as much of the weekend as possible wet.
My kid has horse riding tomorrow. Thankfully I grabbed the 9AM slot. Whether she makes it through the summer will test her love for horses. We also have DD2’s swim lessons and dog training class. H is home so we will divide and conquer but he’s not feeling well so I’ll try and take most of it. Swimming Sunday at friend’s and Monday H works so I may take the kids somewhere with my brother followed by additional swimming.. Grilling at home. I am about to leave work and buy the ingredients for blueberry lemon vodka spritzers.
There are two openings I am very qualified for in Minnesota. Maybe I should trade my endless scorching, damp summers for endless frigid winters. My friend in Indiana insists I’d need an entire room of SAD lamps to counteract a lifetime in the sun ... but I’ve heard Minneapolis is great, aside from the weather.
Long weekend! I'm making it longer by taking Tuesday as a vacation day to play hookey with DH while he has some time off in between jobs. That's what I'm looking forward to most!
We are supposed to see friends on Saturday and Sunday, but I'm not sure how that will all workout.
We are in the truck headed for a campground we have never been to. I needed to have a lot more heavy projects for work done than I got done today and I’m hoping it doesn’t give me the worries this weekend.
Birthday weekend! Friend/school party tomorrow morning then off to hang at at my parents' for the rest of the long weekend. Weather looks really promising so maybe even some lake time? I won't go in the freezing water but the kids probably won't care if the sun is warm enough.

My in-laws are coming for a week starting tonight. I don't mind as I generally like them and they are very civil and respectful of our boundaries and parenting.
Tomorrow we have soccer games for both kids, DS then has his piano exam, then he has math club. It'll be a full day for him. Then Sunday we have DD's birthday party at a gymnastics place and we'll do another family party for her at home afterwards.

I’m volunteering at church tomorrow while dh takes ds1 to the track for practice. Sunday I’m visiting a friend with her new baby while dh watches the monoco Grand Prix and indy500 at home with the boys. Monday we are all headed to the track.
Went to my friends house last night to grill burgers and hang by the pool. I got off at 2, so I got some pool time in. Ds didn't get off until 5. He was not amused when I sent a carload of 4 teenage girls to get him and bring him to the pool.
This morning, I had to run Ds to a diner for a birthday breakfast for his club. His ride didn't get up to pick him up, so I had to take in in pajamas, I left my purse, cell. At least I didn't get pulled over. Today we are hanging on a boat for a while then a barbecue.
Dh is working until Sunday night. but Sunday is my birthday, so I am going to find whichever pool, lake, cookout my people are and celebrate. All this with the kids in tow.

We had our first grill out at the pool on Friday. Yesterday I did a bike ride and run and then I came home and decluttered the built ins in the living room and my dresser and closet. Today I have more decluttering projects but I'm starting to feel a little bad that the kids are just hanging out at the house. Maybe I can get DH to take them to the pool.
Our guests arrived yesterday and their kids started puking this morning. We have SO MUCH STUFF in the next couple of weeks and I’m really going to be annoyed if we get another bout of the stomach bug.
But the weather is great and my kids are happily swimming. Winning??
We bought the kids desks yesterday and put them together. My back hurts from it today. Date night was super fun but we ate ALL the food and I am on my period so holy bloat.
I have a cold and laryngitis so just chilling and drinking hot tea with honey while doing so much laundry. DH is meeting a friend for beer so I told him I don’t want to hang out with anyone this weekend because of my cold because sometimes hanging with the guys turns into hanging with the family and I just don’t feel up to being social.

Friday was my birthday and this coming Thursday is our 10-year anniversary, so we went out of town for 3 nights (Thursday-today) to Santa Barbara. My good friend since 2nd grade and her husband flew from the East Coast and we had our babysitter watch the kids for the 3 nights (she’s getting married in the fall and was thrilled to be able to make a lot of money in a short time). We went wine tasting Friday and did an electric bike tour yesterday, and did plenty of eating and drinking. I really missed my kids though and I’m glad to have another day off tomorrow with them!

OMG puking! The worst!
They immediately left right? I feel like only my absolute BFF level friend would be remotely welcome in my home with puking kids.

Noooooo that’s crazy talk. They’re still here...
mae0111 , seriously, I would insist they leave. That is exceptionally rude of them to stay with puking kids. But since they haven't left, if it were me, I would make bleach a constant smell in the house so they get the idea.
ETA: Personally, I'd rather be at my own home with my sick kids any day. So much easier to take care of them at home. If I was a guest and my kids got sick with anything more than a cold, we would go home.

I'm a few days late, but Friday I had off and the kids didn't have school, so we did some errands and visited DH at his new office.
Speaking of puking... Early Saturday morning (2:30 am) DS woke up with a stomach ache. He ended up throwing up once not too long after he woke up. We were worried he wouldn't be able to go to his baseball tournament on Saturday, but he woke up feeling fine, so it must have been something he ate on Friday.
Saturday and Sunday DS had a baseball tournament in a town about 1/2 hour away. They ended up being runner up, but the team that won was a team from the travel organization running the tournament. The home plate ump for the championship game was a teenage kid who plays on a team for the travel team that organized the tournament, and he made some questionable calls. This was the second year we went to that tournament, but I don't think our coaches will sign up for it next year.
Today we're headed up to check out the vacant land we recently bought. (It's about 1.5 hours away.) We haven't been able to get up there since we closed on it a few weeks ago. The kids are excited to walk around it some more, and we're going to show it to my parents.
Hope everyone has a safe and fun (or relaxing!) Memorial Day!
We have reached a new stage in parenting. I woke up about 3:30 this morning and was awake more than an hour. Then I fell back asleep. I woke up again at 8:00, as DH was also waking up. I panicked because my kids never sleep that late. I hurried into their rooms, but they were both downstairs, playing and watching television, perfectly happy and content without us.
Then we went to IHOP for breakfast where they both ate a ton and had nice manners.
Clueless houseguest update: the dad now has the stomach bug. Instead of putting himself to bed up in our very quiet guest suite well-equipped with an TV and AppleTV, he is moaning on my living room couch with my kids. NOROVIRUS FOR EVERYONE!!
mae0111- you are well within the bounds of polite society to ask him to get his ass up to the spare room so he doesn’t infect the family who lives there. I was in the minority in thinking it’s hard to travel with sick kids, so I could sympathize with someone staying put. But an adult not following normal germ-reducing procedures? Um, no.

On the “not a saint” end, I was singing “Tomorrow” from Annie today and DD was asking what it meant. So I told her Annie was an optimist. And she said “Some people are like ‘oh no, everything is going to be terrible and the whole world is awful’” and I responded “Yes, and you are related to a ton of them. It drives me crazy.” She asked who and I said “Daddy and Grandma.” Then I turned around from the sink to see DH walk in. Oops. But it’s true. I border-line kicked MIL out of my house Friday and haven’t spoken to her since for going into her drunken “The world is so terrible and Republicans hate women and everyone is going to die because abortion is going to be illegal”. I politely asked her TWICE to knock it off in front of my kids before finally yelling at her. In more than 20 years of marriage, I’ve never raised my voice to her before. But I have HAD it.
mommyatty, I'm also a huge fan of this stage. I spent almost an entire day reading on the porch, with minimal interruptions to help my kids with random requests this weekend. They just... occupied themselves? It was like heaven.

I would like to get here someday. My kids are 9.5 and 6. The 6 year old can do this. The 9.5 year old cannot. I’m not hopeful it will ever happen...
