Baby Sean (middle name TBD) Derkins made his much anticipated arrival this afternoon! 7 lb., 8 oz, 21 in, and apgars of 9/9. Delivery was by pitocin induction at 39w3d, and aside from the pit was otherwise unmedicated — and fast.
I was admitted at about 6:30am, and had my water broken around 8:30. I was only 2 cm at that point. I bounced and walked, but very little happened. Started pitocin in late morning, maybe around 10:30 or 11. I got to 3-4cm on pit pretty easily, and to 5-6cm by around 3pm. It started to get pretty real then, and I moved really quickly to 7-8cm and then pushing. 9 hours after admission, he was here. I have a first degree tear, but feel pretty good, all things considered.
It was definitely more painful than my spontaneous labor with DD, mostly because I had less rest between contractions. I’m so relieved to be safely through pregnancy and delivery. We’re on mother/baby together now. He latched twice while we were still in L&D, but has been snoozing since we moved here.
