I had no idea that these events were such a thing. I didn't know how good we have it. We pay fees online, PTA handles supplies. You get an email with your teacher's name the Friday afternoon before school starts and when you arrive at school that evening at 5, go straight to the classroom to say hi to the teacher and then go home. Even when I have 3 in elementary at the same time, we'll just walk from one classroom to the other for 20 minutes and say hi to everyone and go home.

This isn't helpful to you but it makes what my school does so interesting. We do not have a "meet the teacher" before school starts unless you are a family that is totally new to the school. Parents do not like this, but it did result in my kid being able to spend 20 minutes chatting with his teacher and telling her all about himself when he started last year.
Some parents did ignore the rule that it was new families only, but most didn't. DS had a friend who was very behind and her mom knew the year would be a problem (her mom was right), so she went without her kid that day and talked to the teacher. I only know this because as we were arriving she was leaving.
Instead of meet the teacher, the kids spend time at the end of the school year getting to know their future teacher. DS knows the 2nd grade teacher well at this point. Of course the flaw in that plan is when they have to hire someone new.
Then after school has been going on for a week, they have a curriculum night. That's when parents meet the teachers and kind of learn what the kids will be working on, what work books they have and how homework is handled, etc.
School supplies are provided by the school. But it's small and private so we pay for that in a supply fee, facility fee and our tuition. And the teacher puts it away.
I know at our public school you order supplies ahead through the PTA but as far as putting them away, I'm not sure how that's handled. I THINK that if you order ahead they are in your child's classroom when they start school. Some parents miss the deadline and they either have to hunt for supplies or there is a supply day where you can go in person to buy your stuff from the PTA. Parent avoid that like it's the 7th circle of hell.
Our events aren't like this at all either. I'm so lost by all the supplies talk. Our district just... supplies it all. We don't have to purchase anything to start the school year in the elementary grades. We have an ice cream social on the playground the week before school starts for anyone to attend. Teachers serve. Class lists are posted a couple days before that, you don't find out your class assignment until then. Parents go to an open house for a teacher visit a week into school to go over what happens in the classes. But no students allowed at that. That's it.
Part of the extra money we pay for supplies to be delivered is for the PTO to help the teachers with the supplies. Why couldn’t your PTO have a volunteer Saturday before school starts where they sort the supplies by teacher? It won’t solve this year, but maybe it would next year.
We have a picnic one Saturday before school starts. Because it’s a private school, there are a ton of things to consider. They set up half the gym with tables for cafeteria account setup, bus information, PTO membership, etc, and the other half is uniform resale. Our uniforms are absurdly expensive, so the resale is a must-do. You also go visit your classrooms to meet the teacher(s), and after all the business is done, you can go play on the playgrounds and get food and socialize. It’s busy and a little hectic, but no one is making us try to fight for parking and then do a mad dash to put crap in baskets. The whole event is about 4 hours, so people tend to stagger themselves. Some start with the uniform resale, some go to tables, some start in classrooms.
Some of yours definitely sound so relaxing. I just found out that DS gets his school issued computer after the open house so my plan to do his classroom first then hers doesn't work because then I have to go back to his school for the computer- face palm. His starts 15 minutes before the other school, so that is why I was going to do his first. I will definitely need DH.
We don’t have a day. The kids are expected to bring all of their supplies and meet their teacher on the first day of school, other than kindergartens are folks who are transfers and get to stop by early. I send as many supplies as I can fit in DS’s backpack the first day, and then everything less critical (like tissues) the next day.
I would go as early as needed to get a parking spot. I’d have two bags of supplies (one for each child/class) labeled with their name and just drop it off in each class with no dodging around a crowded classroom to sort it out in ridiculously specific ways.

This is also a good idea. I could put it in their locker and act like I didn’t see the 20 point list and kid could put them away during school.

I wanted to write this, but honestly I’m too much of a crazy rule follower and couldn’t actually do it. I wish I could though!

I know- me too! I struggle with it but I am sweaty and exhausted after like I ran a marathon, so following the rules isn't really working either. But part of me really wants to make it work and follow the rules. DH says he can go this year, but if he couldn’t there is no way we would have time to do both classrooms. The list gets bigger for each grade and we have the extra task of getting DS’s school issued computer too. I have to prioritize.
