He will care once he is also getting played for a little bit if touchy feely. I think they are setting it up for both to turn.
Agreed. Plus aren’t they supposed to be hung at some point (at least according to the book? I can see this moving them closer to pushing back against Gilead or certain people in Gilead and toward that eventual end.
Apparently I need to reread the book, too, because I definitely don't remember any resolution with respect to the Waterfords.
If read it 3 times, but starting 25 years ago so it's fair that I've forgotten a lot!

I feel like that was in the epilogue? The only reason it even occurred to me is that I’m pretty sure folks have brought that up here in earlier season threads. Unless I’m completely wrong which is always possible lol.

Yes, it's referred to in the epilogue that Fred was seen as too liberal so thusly executed by fellow commanders as the oppression got even worse.

I think I need to re-read Handmaid's Tale before the sequel comes out in September. I made the plunge and pre-ordered it today. I was going to hold off but that was an unrealistic expectation.
I'm afraid you're right. Canada can go fuck itself if that's the case.
I think they have gone out of their way to point out the resources that the refugees take up. For instance, giving Moira a phone, cash, insurance card, etc when she crossed the border and having Luke buy diapers with a benefit card. There was one episode where Luke was shown drinking. I think they will start showing Canadians complaining about their tax dollars going to support refugees who drink, get arrested, and don't fully contribute to the economy.
Yeah that’s a good point. And really now that I think I about it, if Canada was really meant to be a happy ending, or even a real sanctuary, our escaped characters would not still be eating up significant time in the narrative.
I thought it was so odd that she was mad at that Martha and still don't understand why June hasn't been killed.
June thought the Martha betrayed her and told someone about June trying to see her daughter. That's why she sort of snapped when Ofmatthew revealed it was her.

That doesn't make any sense. Why would the Martha rat herself out knowing she would be hung? June should have been hung too if the Martha ratted her out. It just doesn't make sense. That lady was killed trying to help June. It just bugs me how many fucking people have been killed helping June.

I don't know, I'm just sharing what they said in "Inside the Episode"

Interesting.
I didn't interpret June's body language as anger. I thought she was upset, scared, definitely resigned. She took the rope and pulled because what the hell else is she going to do? And I figured she snapped at Ofmatthew because the fact that she told is super shitty, regardless of anything else.

This week's was a little scattered, but I LOVED the glimpse into Lydia's life. It was a weird feeling to smile while watching this show, but I did when they were on the date. And the realization that she was bitch before too. What a back-stabber. I liked especially that in that last scene of her at the school, her hair is up for the first time in the flashback, giving her the same look as her Aunt Days
I also loved the insight into the working of the aunts, and placements.
I kind of hated June as a mean girl, but I think it shows the depths of the trauma on her. She's kind of losing grip with reality and after Hannah's move, her fight is gone, so her anger needs some where else to go.
I feel like Brad Whitford isn't being given enough to work with. I liked him more in the couple of episodes last season rather than the whole of this one.
And the end WTF. I didn't quite see it coming until June turned away with the mean girl smile. I hope Jeanine makes it.

The glimpse into Lydia's life was interesting. I guess I was kind of hoping it would make me feel more sympathetic to her, but that was certainly not the case.
I agree that June is losing her grip on reality and has a lost sense of purpose now that she doesn't know where Hannah is.
The end was just... bizarre. Like, wtf? Did June encourage her to do that with the head nod? How did this come to be!? The end was crazy. I actually thought it might be a daydream or something, but I watched the episode 9 sneak peek and it's definitely not.

I don’t think June had any idea that would happen. I think Ofmathew just snapped. If anything, June caused it by outing her for not wanting her pregnancy.
I wonder if there will be any consequences for Aunt Lydia. She’s already gotten blamed for June’s and Jeanine’s bad behavior and a gun snatching pregnant handmaid getting killed on her watch seems like a big fucking deal.

I actually thought June was smiling and nodding as a way to say “shoot me, please.” At this point Hannah is missing somewhere and Nicole is in Canada and she didn’t escape when she had the chance. I think in that moment June was hoping ofmatthew would shoot her.

That was my thought too. And then when OfMatthew wavered between her and Lydia she seemed like "well ok that works too." I do think we're supposed to see her as losing her grip and dissociating at this point.

Did anyone else watch the preview for next week?
Yes, what did you think? The end scene of her with the scalpel!?
Yes, what did you think? The end scene of her with the scalpel!?
I don't know. I really hope it's not another "June pulls a stunt that any other handmaid would hang for." I'd be here for her either snapping out of her dissociation and doing something to maybe get away for real (doubtful) or face some kind of real consequence (also doubtful). I didn't really by the bit with her and Janine in their nightgowns alone in the hospital room - like they wouldn't have someone standing guard over them the whole time.

Agreed on all counts. They need to switch tactics and quick, because I'm starting to get annoyed.
so I assume there are 4 episodes left? I'm really not sure where this season is going at this point. It's all over the place but it started out so well...
I don't really get why OfMatthew snapped, from the bullying? from stress over her 4th pregnancy? from trying to keep it all together in her head?

The pacing seems way off this season. And this week all the Canada drama is just poof, forgotten about except for one flippant comment from June. And WTF is Serena even doing at the hospital next week if she and Fred are supposedly moving to DC? Did that go away? I do wonder if they are setting up some situation where June makes it to Canada but Luke and Moira get extradited back and then what happens to Nichole when her bio mom is now out of Gilead?

Vox does a really good round table review every week and they talk about how Ofmatthews "snap" makes little sense except that it 1. Is a stereotype and 2. Serves to set up the story that another woman of color can die as a result of June's quest to find Hannah, and in a way these characters are only pawns who can be killed off when the stakes go up..while white characters remain safe and untouched.
I mean. Its problematic. The scene where they dragged Ofmatthew away..really reduced her character from a person ( an underdeveloped character) to just a prop.

I thought that at first, but I went back and watched it again and the second time I definitely got the idea she was suggesting Ofmathew to shoot Aunt Lydia.
