How gassy are your babies? I'm having a hard time distinguishing between normal newborn gas and a lip tie induced issue.
He is starting to spit more often, sometimes an hour after eating. The burps make him seem like he's crawling out of skin as we struggle to get them out. He will wake up from a dead sleep screaming because of gas and get out a dozen plus farts. Probably half of his overnight wake ups seem to be caused by gas, not hunger.
E2 was really gassy bit he outgrew it by maybe 4 weeks? 6 weeks for sure. We did gas drops, gripe water, tummy massage.
lovelyshoes gas drops and gripe water are in heavy rotation, especially during the night.
I still have butter and the chocolate in my lactation cookies, but I've cut out all other dairy. I've had it a couple of times (like cheese on a sandwich) and no difference.
Unfortunately to get the benefits of eliminated dairy you have to cut all dairy & it takes up to 2 weeks to get out of your system.
My sympathies - I had to eliminate dairy (& other stuff) with my older 2.
For STMs, when were you able to shift your babies’ bedtime earlier?
DD won’t fall asleep any earlier than 9 pm, despite efforts to move the bedtime wind down routine earlier. I know newborns naturally go to bed later, I’m just wondering when I can hope to have a 7 pmish bedtime.
I want to say it was around 6 months - I definitely remember we couldn’t get an earlier bedtime until they dropped their 3rd nap and were taking 2 good naps a day.

Ultimately if he's that sensitive I just don't think I would be able to be successful for any real length of time I was already on a specialty diet for pregnancy (ironically with lots of dairy) and was pretty miserable at the end. I dont think I have another one in me...
Talk to me about pumping and how to increase my supply please.
Power pumping after baby goes to bed at night. (10 min pump, 10 min rest, 10 min pump, etc for an hour).
Hydratiin for sure. Coconut water has been shown to help. So Body Armor drinks instead of Gatorade or Powerade.
Galactogogues like flaxseed, oatmeal, brewers yeast, nuts. You could make muffins, cookies, smoothies... Or even just make a bowl of oatmeal and sprinkle some flaxseed meal and brewers yeast in it. This combination of ingredients usually gives me a boost within 48 hours. Leafy greens are supposed to help.
Fenugreek can help but it can make some babies gassy. If you have any plans to donate milk later, just know that milk banks will not take any milk that has fenugreek in it (so they test for it, and if it is there, they just toss the milk).
Some people report that eating a bowl of good ice cream (not low fat junk) has helped.

TLDR: I’m pretty much happy with life, but worry that I shouldn’t be or that there is something I am missing.
I’m tired of life revolving around feeding and pumping. The whole process takes an hour and she is still eating every 3 hours when she’s awake. To go out and about leaves you with about 30 minutes to be where you are before you have to be home to feed and pump. Should she still be eating every 3 awaking hours? She seems satisfied after each meal (110 mL) and gets a average of 700mL/24 hours.
Also, about sleep. We pretty much let her sleep on demand (4 months calendar age, 15 weeks adjusted). She is sleeping 7-9 hours at night, but since she woke up this morning she has slept 4 times for a total of 2.5 hours. It’s only 2:30p. There will be more. Many of you are saying 2-3 naps per day. Should I not let her sleep on demand? Overall I’m good with her sleep, but I wonder if it’s ok to be good with it. Sleeping 10p-5:30 or 6 is doable for my overnight sleeping.
hamster The gas is out of control here sometimes and I also don’t know what is normal. Tonight was particularly bad, and I feel awful because she just cries and farts in a continuous cycle. The only time she will stop is if we take her in the shower, but once she is out, it starts again. We have been using gas drops, but I don’t know how much they are helping. We switched her formula early last week and she did better at first, but the gas seems to have crept back in, so I don’t know what to do at this point. Hopefully it passes soon.
What do I do about burping? Over half the time we can’t get him to burp after eating. Sometimes if we change him he will burp after lying down for a minute but it’s not every time. FWIW we do keep him upright for 10min after eating and use Dr.Browns bottles.
We are dealing with some gas (still fussing/grunting and bending his knees up a lot) but it’s better after his formula change 5days ago.

Burping is the worst! Sometimes he burps, sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he won't and I put him on the changing table and all the milk comes up. I just try different positions and move him around a bunch and hope for the best. C had the same issue.
I didn’t have to really burp my first two but this baby if she doesn’t burp she will spit up or be really uncomfortable if I lay her down later. It takes forever for her to burp too so someone has to hold her up after nursing for 20 minutes plus.

I’ve found a passive approach to burping seems to work for my little guy. He’ll pull off the bottle if he’s ready to burp, but a lot of the time I just do an over-the-shoulder position and let him milk-drunk-doze. When he starts to stir, I’ll give him a few pats and usually a Barney Gumble burp comes ripping out. I find that when he’s resisting the burping process - stiff body, squawking - I’m not as successful.
Thanks, that’s good to know! Hopefully it ends soon!
Yup, same. DS hit the 4 month sleep regression a few weeks early. I remember because it coincided with going back to work and it was brutal.
I was wondering the same thing. My son is 12 weeks today and the last few days have been rough. I haven't even looked into what the 4 month sleep regression is, but I know his sleep is all over the place right now so I need to starting reading about it.
Edited: After some quick research he has hit the 4 month regression a few weeks early.
I’ve only had 90 min total sleep tonight and no one can give me a nap tomorrow 😢 at least big kids are at grandmas until dinner tomorrow and tomorrow is night nanny night.

hopefully Ds3 does some kind of a stretch soon
That’s brutal. I hope when you finally do get a nap, it’s a quality sleep. My baby has gone for 3-4 hour stretch’s to around 2, and when she is sleeping she is so loud! I am exhausted and hope she flips back soon.
D had good intervals but largely because I just ignored him. But he was loud enough I wasn't really sleeping. Then I was worried C was sick in his crib and lost some extra sleep there. Today is going to be a long one.
Got a 2 hour stretch and then a 3 hour stretch! I wonder what his deal was last nught🤷🏻♀️maybe it was because he was held for 10 hours ? Who knows but I’m selfishly glad DH feels bad about it.
I feel like we might be extra gassy the last couple of days, but he may also have the stomach bug we all had. I'm pretty frustrated with how LOUD this kid is. He doesnt cry much, it's just grunts and groans but he keeps waking C who is becoming a tired beast. I wish our addition was done
Thanks to the stomach bug I managed to not be alone with both kids all day yet. Next week I only have one potential day. Not too shabby!

We have our 2 month appointment next week and I’m just glad I don’t have to have a BP check, lol. DS plummeted in weight percentiles during his first month. We had to see speech, do a swallow study, buy specialty valves for our bottles, etc. all because of a small cleft in his soft palate. We got him gaining as he’s supposed to, feeding has been going fine, but as the appointment nears I just feel that worry and discomfort creeping back in. Did I make a mistake letting him sleep? Should I be pushing more bottles? Is his growth curve holding steady?
I struggled to breast feed my DD, and thought formula feeding from day 1 with DS would be cutting a fat hog, and this little boy had the audacity to skip palate-completion-day in utero. I’m hoping that me calling him big baby and playing the Chunky song from Madagascar 2 is willing appropriate weight gain into existence.
