WinterWine, I did a 1.5 hour breastfeeding class/information session, which was amazing. I also did a 1.5 hour information session on birth and it was great to learn about the process here and get the information. That’s it. I’ve looked into other birthing classes but they’re too long. I really want to just go with the flow and just let my body do it’s thing so I’m not doing a longer class.
Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like we have the same style and plan. I’m thinking the condensed class will be plenty for me

For DD I did no classes. All the local area classes were waitlisted by the time I looked into them and apparently you have to register before 10 weeks pregnant to even get in before your due date. Our hospital had a one hour walk around to show the birthing facilities and that is all I did.
However, our hospital did have a drop in LC clinic 4 days a week and I went back when DD was 4 days old to make sure our latch and everything was good and they did a weighted feeding. They also had LCs come in twice before I was discharged on day 2, so I knew hands on breastfeeding instruction would be covered.
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for the week? i think i finally passed most of the SCH, at least i hope so. other than that, not much, just rolling along. starting a pre-natal yoga class tonight that i'm excited about.
3. Questions for the group?
4. What's the best pregnancy or parenting advice you've received so far? don't borrow worry. this helped me a lot during my last pregnancy. don't worry about things that are far down the line.
My preg brain keeps forgetting to come in here haha.
1. How far along are you? 26w
2. Pregnancy-related AW/vents/randoms for the week? GD test this week. My Dr said he would call by Mon if more testing was needed so I told him I'd be sure to turn my phone off that day haha.
3. Questions for the group? Has anyone bounced from the hospital after 24 hrs? Any regrets about that? My hospital changed their policy to rooming-in for babies and I figured if he can't go to the nursery I might as well be home to recover but just want to make sure I'm considering everything.
4. What's the best pregnancy or parenting advice you've received so far? None, really. Haha. I mean I'm sure I've gotten PLENTYYYYY but I mostly tune it out because I'm gonna do what I'm gonna do anyway unless I ask for it specifically. haha.
slcjess - we were released after 24 hours and I have no regrets. I had a difficult time sleeping in the hospital, especially because they woke me up every time they checked on her. Not fun considering I barely slept the night before too. If I were to do anything differently, it would be to hire a night nurse* for the first few nights home, specifically the second night (night 3 with baby) because that one was particularly rough. Both my H and I were so beyond exhausted from the lack of sleep but she was up all night crying. Things got better after that but if there had been someone to hold her while I caught a few hours of sleep it would have really helped.
*Night nurse because we live far from family and there was no one around to help us. If you have family or friends that could help out, that would obviously work too.

slcjess I am hoping to be out of the hospital within 6-8 hours if I have a med free and complication free labour. If I do wind up with an epidural, I’m angling for 24 hours. I am with a midwife program where they come to the house to check on you and baby post birth. The only issue is if they suspect jaundice, baby will have to be readmitted to get checked since they can’t test bilirubin levels outside the hospital.
I spent about 44 hours at the hospital last time and due to the timing of DDs birth (in evening at end of shift) it meant that all of her checks, etc were overnight. Both nights. It was brutal. I’m willing to forego an epidural (hopefully) to avoid that nonsense again.
elleblue, dreamcrisp1, aprilsails, Thank you! I stayed the whole 3 days last time because I thought I had to, haha. And it was nice cause they would take him to the nursery for a couple hours at a time but always brought him with a full diaper anyway so I feel like being at home with my mom there and his mom to hopefully help with DS1 will be more helpful. Also their food sucked. Ha. I'm glad to know its not a totally crazy idea!
slcjess, I’ll be home in 3-4 hours if everything goes well and according to plan.
I'm jealous that that's an option. It's a minimum 24 hours before the hospitals here will consider releasing you.
I hope nothing goes wrong so I can do it. No epidural in a birthing center with a water birth is my goal. I know I’ll just want to sleep in my own bed and then my maternity nurse will come/be there to help with baby.

I must be an anomaly! With my first, they require you stay 48 hours, and with my second being at the hospital felt like a freaking vacation since I had a 2 yo at home. We stayed around 48 hours after birth lol.
With DS, they told me I could go after I think it was 2 nights but since I had a csection I could technically stay an extra night. I opted for the extra night. LOL I loved my nurses and they took such good care of me, I didn’t want to have to go home and take care of myself. Plus having some back up as a first time mom was great. My H and mom helped a lot but nothing like those nurses.
