Trying to flush out some details for a work heavy trip, I was last there in 2015 so it’s been awhile.
Does anyone have any food recs convenient to the convention center/or CBD ? Easy via walking or public transit is the main want. No particular requirements for type nor any food restrictions. A variety of price points welcome- but we are told to keep food costs reasonable so nothing super fancy.

Crown Casino & Southgate are walking distance from the Convention Centre, both have a number of restaurants at all price points. Both Southern Cross & Flinders Street Train Stations are in walking distance (and both are in the Free Tram Zone in the CBD, though stops past the stations are outside the Free Tram Zone). You can go anywhere in the City for food. If you're looking for a Melbourne experience, I'd suggest walking to DeGraves Street across Flinders Street from the Station. There are many great restaurants along there. It's about 20 minutes walk from the Convention Centre.
I really like La Camera in Southgate, but you will probably need reservations for a group.

Thank you.
No need to worry about large groups - more max one or two colleagues. So even a favored pub is good

I live about 2 hours southeast of Melbourne so the pubs I frequent most aren't in the City. I know there's a pub at Southgate. my husband calls it the McIrish Pub, but it's pretty good. If you're looking for a better, less chain pub experience, The Elephant & Wheelbarrow at Bourke & Exhibition streets is really good, and easy to get to if you take the 96 Tram.
If you have some time, I highly recommend Dench Bakery on Scotchmen Street in Fitzroy North, but it's a good way from the Convention Centre an would require trams & a bit of walking. Closer to the Convention Centre, Walker's Doughnuts the corner of Elizabeth & Flinders Streets is really good, in a classic doughnut shop kind of way -- nothing fancy, just good doughnuts. Time Out at Federation Square is good and if the day is nice, sitting outside is lovely (I had my engagement party at Time Out).
The Food Court at Southgate has most of the Australian fast food chains, so there is bound to be something for everyone.
