I left the kids in bed and am now at work. Only until around 12:30, DD has an eye appointment. I am really hoping she does not need glasses and contacts, but I am afraid that won't be the case.
It's fall break here. I am working 1/2 day today, all day tomorrow, I have to leave early and travel 2 hours Wednesday, then thankfully off Thursday and Friday. DH is off Thursday. I let the kids pick what we would do. They chose a movie and out to eat. Blah. I was hoping for something outdoors, now I am going to be stuck watching Rambo or some other action movie. Oh well. I did get to see Downton Abby yesterday which made me miss the show even more.
Two of my four people called out sick today. Happy Monday.
I think I might have to attend a work event next week that requires me to beg/borrow/steal time from XH. It's an event on my night and runs about 30 minutes longer than the Boys and Girls Club is open, so it requires me to find someone to pick up the kids. I'm already asking my sister to cover for me for another work meeting this week so I feel bad asking her to pick up that slack too. I HATE asking for favors like this from XH because it opens the floodgates of him thinking we can rearrange custody whenever he wants to do something and make everything even. It makes me "owe him one" and I hate that feeling. But, at the same time, my ability to attend these events pays all the bills for the kids, so I kind of feel like he should just suck it up.
DS had an orthodontist appointment first thing this morning, so I took him to that. He got his braces off, so he was super excited. As soon as he got in the car he popped some gum in his mouth.
We had a busy weekend, and I'm tired. In between activities, I painted the trim around our front door. (I had painted the porch railing in July and wanted to make sure the trim around the front door was painted before winter.) DS's football team won on Saturday, so they are still undefeated. Later that afternoon he had a baseball scrimmage, and then afterwards about half the families went out for dinner.
DD wants to try a hip hop dance class, so we're going to check one out tonight to see if it's something she really wants to do.
I usually work 6 - 2:30 (ish) but this week I'm on a fixed shift because of training. I don't leave work until 4:30, which puts me home around 5:30/5:45. Kid #2 needs to be at scouts at 6:00 and I can swing that. But tomorrow, Kid #2 needs to be at either gymnastics or scouts (she hasn't yet picked) at 5:30 or 5:45 and I cannot swing that. I DID ask for help, which I NEVER do, and it was far too much explaining so I said FORGET IT. Kids might just have to be late. Late is also a thing I don't normally do!

We had a pretty good weekend - but this morning the kids were not great, and there were ants in the stroller because DS2 spilled his cereal, so I had to carry DS2 to the big kids' school and daycare. DS1 had a really hard time at kindergarten drop off. Then it took me 15 minutes to get our garage door to close - I vacuumed away spider webs from the sensors like 5 times and finally it worked. So it was an interesting morning so far!
I’m having a Monday. I planned to WFH so I could get a bunch of stuff done. My H called at 9am and his car broke down. And he was an hour away heading to a meeting another 45 minutes away. So my whole day is shot as I’m sitting in a random courthouse 1.5 hours from my house while my H meets with the chiefs judge. Then we need to drive the 1.5 hours back, pick up a rental and then get the kids.
I am also in yoga pants and had no idea I would be meeting any of the court staff or judges here.
It's Fall Break here too, and it is glorious! I got to sleep in until around 9:30 this morning. Then got up, took a shower, and started some laundry. Some guys are supposed to be over at some point this afternoon to finish fixing the shower in my master bathroom. This is supposed to be the last day they need to fix it, and I should be able to use it after 24 hours. I am sooooo stoked! I'm so tired of having all my shower stuff in my guest bathroom. It's so annoying and inconvenient. I plan to do some dissertation writing this week (yuck). But I will get to do it sitting in my comfy chair and wearing pjs, so I'm excited about that. I just put two potatoes in the oven that I'm baking for lunch and looking forward to it because I got them from the farmer's market on Saturday, and these potatoes are beyond delicious!! Hope everyone that is at work this week has a good week and that things aren't too crazy!
Saturday was a busy day - I ran 9 miles, DS1 had a soccer game, went to the local Hay Day, and had family pictures (which turned out awesome). On Sunday, I did some grocery shopping with DS2 and that was it. We all lounged at home for the rest of the day since the rain moved in. Rain is still here for today, so I am skipping my run. I had a gyn appt this morning and the doctor removed my IUD since she thinks it is responsible for my fatigue, headaches, inability to lose weight, etc. I'm not fond of having periods again, but my drive to get rid of these symptoms is higher. My fingers are crossed that this works.
I sent an email that said "If you do TASK A, that counts for this metric. Please notify me if you did TASK A."
I then immediately got a half dozen emails back from people literally asking "I did TASK A last week. Does that count for this? Did I need to notify you?"
I have zero patience for that. How am I supposed to respond and not be snarky?
It’s supposed to get really cold here on Thursday, but for the next 3 days it will be 70’s and 80’s. The kids so kindly stripped my garden ahead of last night’s frost. Except they carved and squished the green tomatoes. Oh well, my garden was so sad this year for some reason. Highly disappointing.
I’m antsy to get our vacation for next year all planned out. We use miles so until we have a credit card bonus (next month) I can’t book. But, the current plan is to start in Czechia, go to Poland, then Slovakia with a day trip into Austria, ending in Hungary. I’m stoked if I can make it all work out. The kids are way more excited about this trip than the original plan which was a road trip to the Grand Canyon. Not gonna lie, so am I. Travel is like my drug, I’m addicted.
sdlaura, no nothing serious just tubes and adenoid removal. Just means I will have a cranky baby.
My kiddo has his tonsils and adenoids out last week and they said that just adenoids is way better than tonsils too as far as discomfort. And even with the tonsils my DS hasn’t had all that much discomfort. His throat looks nasty, but that’s not a thing with adenoids. . I hope it goes smoothly and the discomfort after is minimal.
mrsGreeko, not too worried about the recovery. DS had this done when he was DDs age. However it is the coming out of anesthesia that I am worried about. Both kids come out mad and then they are out of sorts for the rest of the day.

Oh yeah the coming out of anesthesia was awful! My DS kept asking us why we did this to him and why were we torturing him like this. And then falling asleep every 20 seconds. Apparently he woke up screaming so they pushed extra fentanyl for him. And he promptly threw up as soon as we got him in the car to go home. I guess it’s good they don’t remember that part, too bad us parents always will!
I couldn’t sleep at 4 am and then DH got out of bed and checked his email. He had an email that our VRBO was cancelled for Hawaii. This is the 2nd property that cancelled because Oahu changed a law and is cracking down on them. We talked about island hopping and staying at another place because those islands haven’t changed their laws yet, but what if they cancel too? @supertrooper- you are staying at a resort right? Paying for 2 rooms at a resort would be $$$$ and we like having our own kitchen and bedrooms.
DS’s hearing aid broke so I was super pissed about that, but it’s a month from the warranty expiring so they can send it in. So good news that it decided to break before the warranty ended instead of after. I might send his other side in too because I have a feeling it’s on it’s way out. Definitely an up and down day here.
I started my morning off becoming part of our New PTO board. We are creating a board to replace the lone PTO president who has basically checked out as her youngest is a 5th grader and her oldest is a senior in high school so she has been at this for a while. Our biggest hurdle is going to be the principle. She isn't wanting change and us mom's want communication and life brought back to the school. Will see how things flow over the next couple of weeks.
Extension deadline is next week and we are still waiting on almost a dozen clients to turn their taxes into us. I really hope I don't have to work on Friday. DD doesn't have school and we made plans.
186momx - I spent yesterday and today doing the opposite! After what one mom pulled last week, I resigned as room parent in DD1’s class so that I wouldn’t have to deal with her. Last week was so disappointing and disheartening that I’m giving up just about everything that I did at that school. I will read and send in supplies, but I’m not giving my time. I’m staying on as room parent for DD2 because there is only one other mom doing it. She works FT and her DH travels and I simply could not dump this on her. She’s a good partner and I like working with her.
But after this year, the way I’m feeling now is that I will never volunteer for another thing ever again.

I thought I was having a Mondayish Monday. So many meetings, I forgot my notes for a leadership class I am taking etc. Then my husband calls my office line — my daughter’s teacher died in an accident this morning. We told her after work. It was completely unexpected and just so sad. She just wants to know why that would happen.

I am so sorry. I hope the school rallies around her class and helps them navigate this very grown up thing.
waverly that’s too bad about the VRBO. I’m currently planning a Hawaii trip and also debating between two hotel rooms vs a rental. I want child care, so trying to figure out if we stay at a hotel with kids club or cheaper rental and try to bring our babysitter at least for part of the time. We’re a shorter flight to Hawaii than you, though.

We have a super long flight. My mom is coming with us and is the babysitter. We re-booked, and are staying at the Grand Islander by Hilton. It says there is a day camp, but no other info, so I can report back if that actually exists or is for a fee or what they do. We got a 2 bedroom suite, so I guess the kids sleep on the pull out couch in the living room which is not ideal, but I don't want to piss off my babysitter by making a kid sleep with her. We are doing a get along with each other chart, so hopefully that helps with the kids fighting.
We decided to go to another island half way through the trip. Unfortunately most Airbnb and VRBO are booked on Maui and Kauai, so we ended up at the Big Island, however, they haven't cracked down on whole house rentals there (which is what we are looking for with 5 people), so we were able to book there. Fingers crossed that they don't cancel on us.
So it seems like in Oahu, don't even bother with Airbnb or VRBO, especially not whole house. The other islands are cracking down as well but a little more slowly. The Oahu law went in effect this month I think, but was talked about in July. I am happy that we get to see more than 1 island. Packing up doesn't bother me, and the little airports are so cute. Of course when we were last there it was prior 911, so I am sure the travel is not as easy.
