Between the hit pieces, the early state polls (and CA), and Bloomberg catching up to her in the polls, I’m guessing she thinks there’s no path forward. Also, if things move along at the expected pace, I’m not sure how the hell you campaign for President while sitting in an impeachment trial. I am still so, so bummed about this; I was hoping she’d find a way to stay in until super Tuesday so I could vote for her. She’s young, so she still has time to run again, but who knows what the landscape will be in 8 years (not sooner!). I hope she and Kirsten Gillibrand go off and get drunk together somewhere and commiserate.
I just saw this and my heart dropped. NO! Before anyone even had a chance to vote for her.
I definitely never expected this. I wouldn't be surprised if Castro or Booker called it quits, as I don't believe either has made the December debate, but Harris seemed like she could be on the bubble.
I will forever blame the negative press coverage for this.
While it is sad to see her drop out, a friend of mine always tells me to try to see things from a different angle. Kamala is young. She has a long career ahead of her still. Perhaps she feels she can do more good right now by keeping her Senate seat, adding to her list of accomplishments on a national level and then running at a later date. That could help all of us long-term.
She will absolutely rock it during a senate impeachment trial, that's for sure. I also support her staying in the senate for at least another term vs. leaving to become AG or something. She can definitely stage another run in 4 or 8 years. I definitely expect her to do good things, and perhaps this run will have helped expose her to a wider audience.
I am surprised, and disappointed. I've been with her or Warren all along, and while I have leaned toward Warren in recent months, I would have been really excited about Harris winning the nomination as well.
That being said, I don't really see a path for her to actually win the nomination, nor do I envision her actually winning the presidency. I think she still had a shot, but it was a long one. She's an extremely smart and pragmatic person, so I guess I shouldn't be surprised that she recognized when she wasn't going to win and decided to cut her losses.
I wish many of the other candidates would do the same. There are several polling much worse than her that are wasting everyone's time.

I'm so pissed that two of the best women in this race dropped out (due, not in small part, to media coverage - two women who HANDILY won their senate seats, by the way) and we're left with Tulsi, Williamson, and fucking Tom Steyer in this race.
I would love for her to endorse Castro. Wonder who she will.
Have any former candidates endorsed yet? I think for the sake of party unity, most are biding their time and will of course support the eventually nominee. If we get to the point where there'a a possibility of a brokered convention, then maybe they will endorse.

Also fuck all those other white men still clinging on at a fraction of a percent, while these two at least had the good sense to know when to call it a day to ensure that the party can pick the best person.
And while we are at it, fuck the men criminals who stay in office while Katie Hill gets chased out.
This is a completely shit day, and for black women, who carry this party, it must be so much worse. Maybe the reason Stacy Abrams didn't run is because she knew this would be what would happen.
I just sent Booker some money because I don't know what else to do.

Yeah, I'm still not over Gillibrand dropping out. I have a feeling when my primary day comes I'll spend it thinking about the better candidates I wish I could have voted for.

It's good someone in here is being rational and level-headed because this news makes me want to cry.
Oh fucking hell. Fucking fucking hell. She has been in my top three this whole go, and I am heartbroken for what this means for this election. More and more of the same bullshit. There should be a maximum personal worth limit, and it should be the average American income so these rich white fuckers can go away already to be replaced by people who actually give a shit about the country and not their own personal legacy.
This is probably the worst thing that could have happened in the democratic nominee process. Julian Castro not making it is a close second. This is awful.
I honestly cannot believe that shithead Steyer is qualifying for debates.
I may not love some of the other options but they are at least serious candidates. Pete and Warren in particular have a place in my opinion because I think they bring something new to the table. Biden and Bernie ugh but again, serious candidates.

I like Kamala and wanted to see her put together a strong run. But her campaign has had a lot of issues with separate factions on the east and west coasts not seeing eye to eye, her top staff do not seem qualified, she never had clear messaging, and as we are moving forward, she wasnt able to put together anything concrete on serious issues like healthcare.
Some of her top staff resigned and said openly they had never been a part of such a fractured campaign.
If she kept running she would become in serious danger of not only wasting time, money, energy on a doomed presidential run but also losing her Senate seat.
I'm sorry to see her out, but I'm not surprised and I hope she is back in future elections.
