My kid’s bus just... forgot to pick him up. They have been 30 + minutes late every day this week, and today when I called, she said they forgot and she would send another bus. I told them no, we will just take him today. I am so frustrated by the bus company this year. It took them a month to get a good timed routine that would get DS to school on time, then they did well for a month, and now it’s back to bad. He is the last kid on the route, and luckily has somewhere warm and safe to wait, but it is unacceptable to just forget a kid, especially a first grader.
I recommend calling the school district as well as the bus company. My girlfriend's bus has been coming 10 minutes early every day so she has to drive in the wrong direction to drop her kids off. Her kids are older, but it's never acceptable if you're always waiting. You pay for that service.
I found out that I was accepted to the graduate program I applied to! I am not surprised, since it's at the university where I work and in the field that I currently work in, but it's nice to know for sure. I'm anxious to register for classes, but it looks like I have to wait for something to arrive in the mail first.
I ordered an Erin Condren planner last Friday and it's been in Maryland since 2am on Monday. It is now in the city where I live, but it still shows it won't be delivered until tomorrow. Maryland is not very big so I'm surprised it is taking so long to get here. Mostly I'm just impatient because it was a splurge and I want to see what it actually looks like in person. I can't use it until January anyway so I realize my impatience is silly!
I have a vent. I have triple checked with DH when he will be off over the holidays because school is closed for 2 weeks and the winter "camp" really has no coverage.
Last night at dinner he's all "I might have to work during the shutdown." Cue my WTF face because one, if your company is "shut down," why is anyone working and two, we've gone over this several times as there are several things we need to do over the break. One of which is sitting at the DMV to get my real ID.
It's just very frustrating and an on-going issue of who has the "more important" job because despite being more senior and making more money, I'm the one who always ends up accommodating the kid stuff.
Your DH is still a jerk, but can you make an appointment at your DMV? It took me 15 minutes to get my Real ID with an appointment. They looked at my documents, scanned them, and I was on my way. I'm never going to the DMV again without an appointment if I can help it!
sssjm this shouldn't be your issue. I totally get the who's job is more "important", but no you planned around him being off. The stupid real ID is a literal half to whole day at the DMV and time sensitive given the expiration date.
I think how long it takes is going to vary wildly from DMV to DMV. I just had to do mine -- in WA state where people are having to start switching over to meet the deadline -- and it took ~2 hours.
But that still doesn't make it OK for him to flake when she'd planned on him being around.
I'm trying to figure out when and for how long we'll be traveling over Christmas. My family is being all dodgy and weird about setting plans, and because my mom can't/won't get around, the "normal" orgy of excess is going to be sedate this year.
After reading this post I'm wondering if I should be looking in to this Real ID thing. I live in PA and I think previously we weren't going to be compliant but now we are? I don't know. I guess I should actually find out if I need to do something or not.
I'm finally biting the bullet and getting estimates for someone to clean my house a few times a month. I just can't do it any longer and decided I'll make other sacrifices to make it happen.
I finally went through with this decision at the end of last month. It was the best decision I ever made. They come every other week so yesterday was only their second time but it is was amazing how much stress has already been lifted.

Yeah that makes sense. In my state next year ('20) you have to have the real ID or bring your passport to fly in the US. They're really pushing for everyone to switch over so I think that caused my half a day off issue. In my state you can go to an AAA (some, check your local branch), but for me the line was just as long, and I only found out after I drove there as I could never get through by phone. Before real ID I was in and out of AAA with a new picture in 10 minutes so I hope this dies down next time I need an id...in theory it should.
DH and I fly once a year so it made sense for us to get real ID's. Honestly I think it's easier just to get one and have it if you're already up for renewal and not worry if you ever need to fly somewhere. Then in theory if they don't change this form of ID you won't need a new picture for 10 years too and can renew online next time. Just stinks for me, this was supposed to be my renew online time. Either way I think OP's husband needs to watch his own kids for whatever amount of time they need to get the ID, esp because they made plans. I assume this conversation happened weeks ago, and he's just now paying attention.
Now this reminds me my passport will expire in early '20. I should apply sooner so I don't have a gap even though I'm not going to use it before it expires.
I'm in Virginia and there's no appointments and you can't go to any of the mobile offices. My plan is to go to the one that's in a smaller town which usually has shorter lines and basically be in line when they open. But I was planning on doing that the same morning he scheduled her dental appt thinking he can do that while I'm gone.
My parents will be in town the whole 2 weeks, so the childcare thing is minimal, but it's the point of me thinking we had X days to get things done and that may not be the case. Plus we need to head to our beach house for the weekend, so that's 3 days right there.

We put in an application on a new townhouse today. I hope we get it. It’s not the one I was really wanting but it’s still nice. And has an enormous garage which I’m overly excited about. We’ve lived without a garage for 7 years.

Yes by Oct 2020 you need to have a REAL ID in order to board a plane for domestic flights. You have to get a new ID that's specifically a REAL ID in order to be compliant. Otherwise you can use your passport to board for domestic flights.

ssmjlm , do you have AAA? (sorry if this has been mentioned, but I did not read all responses).
I live in Mass and in my state some AAA offices have registry services. I just had to do the real ID thing (my ID was going to expire while I was on vacation and needed to fly, so I understand the time sensitivity). I walked into my local AAA office and I think it took 20 minutes total. It was sooooooo much better than dealing with the DMV. I would have been in there for 3-4 hours easily.
I enlisted my retired aunt and uncle for gift help, asking if the gift could be delivered to their house and if he would assemble it for me. The gift recipient does not do assembly. I got a text from my aunt yesterday: 007 reporting that the package has arrived. This mornings text: 007 the package has been assembled when would you like drop off? They are cracking me up! I'm so grateful for them and their help. They're helping me feel better with my other family craziness going on.
LOL my mom refers to herself as “the eagle” when she does things like this
My dad acts similarly. He even likes to "go the extra mile" when helping me out with a gift--this year it was some random blue coffee mug that he picked up when he grabbed this local store-specific gift card for my mom (we don't live in the same state).
Even though I'm hella mad at him right now (for other stuff, not this gift thing)--it was nice to share a semi-normal experience with my father.
I’ve been watching the weather forecast for my house hunting trip. They’re predicting ice for my entire trip 🤦🏻♀️ I’m worried that it’s going to impact my flights.
My best friend and his wife quit their jobs 4 months ago, put their house on the market, and took off to travel for 6 months. Before they left, they asked me to act as power of attorney if the house sold while they were gone. They just facetimed to tell me that the house has indeed sold. Inspections are all done and everything is agreed to. I'm going over there next week to oversee the movers, coordinate a junk removal service, and sign the paperwork for closing.
They don't know if they're coming back here when they're done with their travels and may move out of state to where her brother lives. I'm just really sad right now. I mean, I knew this is what would happen. They weren't going to keep the house because, frankly, they needed to sell it to be able to afford this trip, but it's all kind of hitting me right now. It was so fun to talk to them and see their daughter, who has done so much since they left (she had just turned a year and is now walking and babbling/talking a ton). I'm happy I can be there to support them when they're halfway across the world. But ugh. This sucks.

Fingers crossed for you!
thanks! The forecast keeps changing, so things may change by then. If it would just change to snow, I’d be ecstatic! Heck, I kind of wouldn’t mind being stranded there for a few extra days. I could use the break from work. It’s actually probably good that the weather will be iffy so that I’ll end up picking a place closer to work.
