Our mold/basement moisture/sump pump nightmare continues. A simple electrical job of installing an outlet on its own circuit for the sump pump led to the discovery of thousands of dollars of electrical damage and things that need to be changed (super frayed wires etc.) We just cannot catch a break.
Oh that's awful, seeyalater52. Unexpected home repairs are so stressful.
We're expecting some severe weather this afternoon, and it's reminding me quite viscerally why staying in Georgia has never been on the table even though I have an amazing job here that I love. Tornadoes are the one type of weather that I just can't deal with.

It was originally supposed to snow up to a foot this weekend. I was excited - playing in the snow, drinking got chocolate, etc. Now we mostly just have freezing rain. I had a meeting scheduled this morning, but apparently the sheriff has asked people to stay off the roads because there are wrecks everywhere. And freezing rain sucks - it’s miserable to be outside, it’s not pretty to look at. Yuck. It’s like the absolute worst form of winter weather.

seeyalater52, I'm so sorry. We have had that experience in a few houses, including the one we're in now. It is no fun at all.
@angryharpy, we are looking at a record high here. I have had a terrible cold for weeks and I know it's not going to get any better with the crazy weather fluctuations.

I leave for a weeklong work trip tomorrow to Long Beach, CA.
I would love to enjoy the CA weather, but I get in at 5 pm Sunday, have class 8-5 every day, and fly home Friday at 6pm. Boo. But I didn't want to lose a weekend day because we always have so much to do on weekends.
The Harry and Megan Royal thread is making me side eye a lot of posters. It’s like when the Royals are involved so many smart people forget to use their common sense and bullshit detectors, and just roll with everything they’re being told.
“With sorrow—for this Court, but more, for the many millions of American women who have today lost a fundamental constitutional protection—we dissent,”
Two more earthquakes hit Puerto Rico between last night and this morning.
H leaves for there on Monday. Then I am supposed to head down and join him on Friday. I really want to cancel our trip. His company is saying things are still good to go but my anxiety is CRAZY high.

Yikes, does that suck. I’m sorry. Adulting is not for weak-willed.

Truly. Any delusions I was harboring that 2020 would be a better year than the last few have been thoroughly expunged. The curse continues.

We got a new garage door opener as our Xmas gift. See above post. Yay! Adulting... lame. Anyway, it is amazing so quiet and has some fantastic bells and whistles, like alerts to your phone if the garage door has been open for five minuted or more. It gives me peace of mind as H is notorious for leaving it open when he has been working on projects. It was too a point that I had a reminder on our joint calendar to check garage door before I went to bed.
Also, I’m excited about a garage door opener... so...yeah that’s where I am in life. 😂

Home stuff sucks.
We’re getting 3 inches of rain today, and H just checked our sump pump. Yep, dead. And water near the top.
He’s currently out buying a new one (pray there’s one in stock), but it is POURING. He literally said “I hope the basement doesn’t start flooding before I get back.”
The basement that we just put new carpet in last year. 😳

The meteorologists can't seem to give us a straight answer on this storm. Like some were saying 8 inches and then before bed another was like "no maybe it'll only be 1 inch...."
we have date night plans tonight for restaurant week and my husband's winter event for work and have no idea how much snow to expect and if we should cancel or not.

Ugh, that sucks. We had a ton of unexpected plumbing issues/costs a few years back and it was just awful.

We’re under an ice storm warning and expecting not to have power tomorrow. Time to go shopping for gallons of water and things we can cook over the wood stove. Like s’mores.

Are you in the midwest? Because same for us. Yesterday they said 8-12. We got slushy ice last night. Now we might get only 2 inches. 🤷🏻♀️

It won't help you this time, but we got tired of buying water for emergencies so we ordered some collapsible water bottles like these that we can fill ourselves. Juvale Collapsible Water Container - 4-Pack Foldable Plastic Water Bag Carrier, BPA Free, Portable Water Storage Tank Carriers for Camping, Outdoor, Hiking - Clear, 1.3 Gallons www.amazon.com/dp/B075RYBR84/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_1kHgEbSTJNAWJ
We don't need to worry about storing water since they collapse and fit in the bin with the rest of our hurricane supplies and can be filled easily when we get advance warning of a hurricane.
I bought marcona almonds after seeing them on Barefoot Contessa, because we had guests over this morning. YUM. Not cheap, though, so definitely just for company, not sitting on the couch and snacking by myself. It took me a while to find them at Whole Foods because they weren’t on the shelf with the peanuts and cashews and such ... they were on a shelf by the cheese case.
I also bought Monte Enebro goat cheese from WF after seeing it on Barefoot Contessa. Good, but I much preferred the Boucheron goat cheese I picked up at Reading Terminal Market in Philadelphia last weekend. If anyone else is into specialty cheese, check it out, it’s very good, and creamy. I first had it from Murray’s Cheese in NYC. Not horribly expensive, either.
Another good WF cheese I had recently was delice bourgogne, a cow’s milk triple-cream. It was like eating a lump of soft butter. Yummo.
