We did well-ish. I never really knew how much we spent on things like eating out, but I picked up YNAB again, and I was appalled at how much we spent on food. I meal planned all of Feb (dinners only), so I was expecting a small number. Well... it was smaller, but oh my gosh you guys, I could go on an amazing vacation with the amount we’re overspending. So this weekend me and the kids didn’t eat out at all. It’s so sad that that is an accomplishment for us. :/

This is our life! I'm trying to do better and meal plan, but it's just plain tough. I hate how much we spend on food, groceries and out

I could have written your last couple sentences word for word. We spent a small fortune in eating out last year and I knew I needed it to stop. The food budget is almost always the #1 trigger for why we do a freeze.

farfalla2011, aspentosh, you guys are making me feel better. I've already meal planned and picked up groceries for the week, and have M-W lunches ready, as well. It looks like we'll save a minimum $500 this month, or $800 if we knock it out of the park. Which is both exciting and sad. lol
We did really well the last couple weeks. It helped I found an old Costco rewards certificate I forgot to use from the Fall and we got a new certificate, so we were able to get $300 in groceries “free”. It should carry us through most of March aside from fresh basics. I didn’t eat out or buy coffee at work at all. DH only took the kids for fast food 1x.
I did have to purchase a large group gift plus cash for a friend, but everyone else Paypal’d me the money. During those shopping trips I picked up some snacks for the kids and a few things we probably didn’t need but I don’t think I spend more than $20/wk on that type of stuff.
I was found 100% not at fault for my car accident so we don’t have to pay the deductible and my car is taking forever to fix but I have a rental insurance is paying for and it gets better gas mileage than mine.
I shopped around for new life insurance and got cheaper plans for DH and I.
