With the number of amazing democrats that started off in this race, I honestly cannot believe that the current two front runners are Grandpa Heart Attack and the literal embodiment of white male privilege.
I know it's still early and only like ten white people have voted. But I'm struggling to see a path out of this mess, given how fractured the rest of the vote is.
Thinking about someone like Kamala Harris or Stacy Abrams as Pete's number two makes me cry. At least Biden is qualified.
Ugh.
Bernie's talking now. OMG, I couldn't handle four years of His Shoutiness. Maybe a good VP pick (not that I want to see Kamala as his #2) and a heart attack two years in? Not wishing death, just incapacity and a better alternate option.
Warren is struggling. Financially and with getting out her message. I wonder how much is Bernie Bro misogyny (lots of Pocahontas from the Bros out here) and how much is general misogyny. I am SO GLAD to see how well Amy did. Right now she's been my top (though I'm helping Liz's campaign out here because she has plenty of boots on the ground here as The Bernie Alternate whereas I haven't seen a lot of Amy's ground game here.)
Warren on MSNBC referencing Susan Collins when talking about Trump. Awesome.
Also, the whole thing about candidates from neighboring states is weird. Trust, no one from New York is gonna vote for someone from New Jersey just because they’re our neighbor, and the opposite certainly isn’t true either.
There's a big difference in how you think about your neighbors if you're the big fish vs the little fish (population, geography, economy, etc.).

I know it is still early but I am a little worried about a contested convention. What happens if none of them get enough delegates because there are too many of them still in for too long?

Brokered convention. Basically the superdelegates get together with the candidates and negotiate a ticket. It will be a disaster.
Do candidates ever pick a running mate before becoming the nominee at the convention? I honestly think knowing the whole ticket would start some quicker consolidation.
I’m VERY vote blue no matter who - but knowing running mates would definitely help me choose for the primary.
I was wondering about this as well. I know some Republicans picked a VP before the candidate was final in 2016.
MSNBC is showing a lot of Amy's speech. I missed Warren, did they give her much air time?
I wish Biden would drop out sooner rather than later but he certainly did not sound like he was dropping out any time soon.
After our discussion last week in the “blue no matter who thread” Bernie/Tulsi ticket became my nightmare scenario.
In this instance, I imagine Harris committing to be on the ticket with Klobuchar before SC and NV and it seems like the best-case scenario for what is happening now.
Well I feel pretty defeated tonight and see no victories for anyone. What a mess.
And why the excitement for Amy? Coming in third in the whitest state means almost nothing. You think this will carry her in NV and SC? Also I heard her speech tonight. It moves no mountains.

If Bernie’s support is growing among POC, NV and SC may only serve to solidify his standing.
The problem I also have is that younger people are propelling him to the nomination and if they’re showing up now they better fucking show up in November, even if Bernie is not the nominee.
Also (collective) we need to keep talking about his heart attack. It’s almost like young people have no idea what heart attacks are.

In Amy’s defense, she went from an afterthought to capturing 20% of the vote in a week. That’s pretty hard for anyone to do, let alone a woman. I think that’s pretty amazing.
I’m concerned about Amy though because she’s received almost no vetting, aside from the awful staff issues, and I shudder to think what is in her prosecutor background.
But the field is pretty dismal and she’s looking better simply by default.
One thing is clear though: the primary schedule cannot continue to stand next time.
I wish we could fast forward to South Carolina so we can actually see what candidates POC will support. Nevada will help a little bit.
Until then the media narrative is going to be obnoxious. Because we are just talking and speculating without evidence.
Bingo. I have been trying to find articles written by POC for this reason. I just can't imagine Sanders, Pete, or Klobuchar are at the top of their lists.

Excitement is a strong word. She’s the alternative choice to the two glaring problems in the “establishment” liberal cohort. Biden needs to start thinking about dropping out if that wing of the party gives any shits about being represented at the top of the ticket.
I’m going to hold off on recommending the same for Warren since I think her contingency will split between Bernie and whoever else. But, her collapse and Bernie’s consolidation are related. Same with Biden’s collapse and Pete/Klobuchar’s rise.

I am terrified Bernie gets the nom and has another heart attack before Nov
Seriously. If he's going to have another heart attack, now would be good time, not later.
@angryharpy looked into this and there's basically no mechanism in place to deal with a situation of a candidate dying in October
That is the #1 reason I won’t vote for him (in the primary— I will if he’s the nominee). Campaigning for president is the most stressful thing you can possibly imagine, followed by serving as president. I was struck by how elderly he looked in the NH victory speech photos and there’s still 9 months to go.
Since it’s a unity horse - I completely agree about kicking Iowa and NH out of their precious spots. And I don’t care if it pisses them off since they’re also trending red. Two white-ass states should not be setting the narrative for the Democratic Party in 2020 or beyond.

There are going to be hella skeletons here. I am afraid.
Yikes! That one case alone is going to be a huge problem. She really struggled to show empathy for either the family of the girl that was killed or the teenager (now 30 something) who may have spent half his life in prison for something he didn’t do. That was a pretty robotic answer.

But Bernie does get decent support from POC. I'll have to gather stats after my meetings this morning, but I do know the age divide is stark. For example, Biden gets a ton of older black support, but Bernie gets a lot of young black support. Warren gets some support, and then among the rest, very little. And then there's Bloomberg and I still don't know wtf to think of him and his base right now.
That was in response to the pessimism about Bernie just above. I don't especially support her, but based on what I know right now I'd rather her than Bernie.
ETA I also admit I know less about her skeletons than Bernie, Biden, and Warren, so I could possibly change my mind.
