cleo29 , DS, almost 9, has tested positive for influenza four times over the years. Three times he had tamiflu with vomiting being the major side effect. The fourth time, I think last year maybe, we could not get him to take it for love or money, because he remembered the vomiting. I broke down crying, tried crazy types of bribery, threats, but he would.not do it. It was only kind of still in the window to take it anyway, so we gave up. He recovered just as quickly as he had the times with tamiflu but I do think there is value in taking it if you are early in the window. I think some kids have reported having psychological effects but that was not a problem for us.
I am hoping she will tolerate it. I want to try to get food in her first because I guess that can help?
cleo29, I think that's worth getting her to eat something first. I know a lot of people mix it with chocolate syrup, which sometimes helps the taste. Fingers crossed she feels better really soon.
So, k has flu A. If your kids took tamiflu did they have bad reactions? I want her to eat a little something with it, but food is also making her tummy feel a little off due to the fever
DS has it a few weeks ago. He always took it with food, which was hard because like you said their appetite is diminished. He also took zofran about 30 min before the Tamiflu because he has a history of stomach problems, and that prevented any nausea or vomiting. He didn’t have any of the hallucinations or scary side effects. Hope she’s feeling better soon!

I have some zofran. Maybe I could give that to her to help. hmmm
So I finally made my doctors appointment and the woman taking my appointment said she’d ask, but the new doctor may not write me a one month refill for my bcp. What? I’ve been going to that office since we moved here so they can see on my chart that I’ve had this same prescription for years, is there really some big risk in writing me a one month refill before seeing me?
No that’s dumb. Just like if a doctor says you need a pap before getting birth control. Absolutely ridiculous. I pretty much hand out birth control like candy to those that want it with no contraindications. The pill needs to be OTC and we’re making progress in that happening, but likely the progestin only pill will be approved for OTC first before the combined hormonal one.
And to be fair to the person you spoke to on the phone I do appreciate when my medical assistants are a little more conservative rather than promising patients the world. There are certainly reasons I won’t refill stuff so it’s better for the medical assistant to err on the side of caution so the patient doesn’t have that expectation then we are seen as the "bad guy." So it might just be protocol for them to say that. Hopefully the doctor is a normal and reasonable person and gives you your refill.
jenny1223 that's horrific. My stomach dropped reading that. Our current president & his admin team are cruel.
wanderingback I hated that my pcp required a pap before getting on bc. I was a virgin and it was unnecessary pain for no reason. Maybe everyone says they're a virgin so they think it's a lie? *shrug*

What? Paps are not just for people who are sexually active.

A pap is indicated for everyone starting at age 21 regardless of whether they’ve had sex. So yeah unfortunately virgins definitely get Pap smears at all ages. You can get cervical cancer.
But yeah agreed that the doctors who require paps to hold birth control hostage essentially are pretty crappy.
So DH came home upset bc he called my desk phone and I never called him back.
Because I was working from home. Which I told him last week and yesterday.
Then I had already told him I was volunteering Friday. Then he says “oh I was going to talk you out of that and take off.” Ummm, I talked about how important Friday’s event is for the kids. I would rather have him take off randomly on a day off of mine or just be home for a few mornings, but alas, here we are.

I haven’t felt this sick in a long time. I just now got out of bed when my mom dropped DS off. I’m taking tomorrow off too, but H is OOT for work the rest of the week so parenting solo will be extra hard.

I know I should ask a doctor about this, and I will, but I don't actually have a local doctor (I moved recently from Boston to DC and my insurance only covers care in Boston [it's an HMO]) so I wonder if anyone has experience with TENS devices. I used one with medium level success on a ruptured disk a couple of years ago. The disk that is problematic affects the sciatic nerve. So I basically have sciatica times 1000. Anyway, when I used it before I put it on the points on my leg that the sciatia was worst, but, if I use one again, would it work better if I put it on my spine where the disk itself is? Last time it was really one spot on my butt that had pain and I used it there. But this time the pain is all up and down my leg -- literally butt, thigh, calf, and possibly even around my ankle. It's actually so bad that I may go up to Boston just to see the doctor. The only thing that 100% helped was a nerve block (which took 4 visits) so I want to try to power through this.

I love my TENS unit. I wish I had one when I was suffering from terrible sciatic pain.
I use it now on my upper back and place the pads right where I’m experiencing pain.

*face palm* Of course they are because cancer doesn't care if you're sexually active or not. I apparently had a dumb moment. And I do get them as often as my pcp tells me is necessary which was yearly from 2007-2017 (with a break while I was pregnant in 2015-2016 if I recall correctly). The only every x amount of years is pretty recent, correct?
I still stand by the requirement for a pap to get bc being dumb.

Thanks. I think I'll just get another one and put them wherever the worst of it is on any given day. I love my kids but my sciatica and my carpal tunnel are their fault!
I have so much anxiety over making appointments, but I'm almost out of birth control so I had to woman up and make my annual physical appointment with my PCP. Except last year she moved to another office so that gave me more anxiety about calling. I called and had to leave a message. I hate when I get myself all hyped up to do a thing and then don't actually accomplish it, lol.
I've been obsessed with Ira Wolf recently. I hope she does a US tour when she finishes her UK one.
Nurx. It’s an app and you can get bc online. Check it out.
