I think my H is in shock right now. Sticker shock. We moved in, paid for the movers (reasonable). Then we had people come in to quote for works to be done (or actually did the work) - an electrician to put in our temporary oven/stove & a bunch of lights (internal and external), followed by a carpenter who is going to put in built in wardrobes/drawers in our bedroom (big sticker shock there), followed by a chimney sweep and a plumber. The house is a mess as we have boxes and crap everywhere. I found one outfit to wear to work today as we accidentally left all my work clothing at the flat we were staying in and we haven't found the iron and need a new ironing board cover. It's just a mess. Ugh. But at least we are in our own bed, with our own sheets and own pillows and that is glorious!

You’re finally home!! Moving is a giant PITA and you’ve been unsettled for a long time so I’m sure it will take a while to adjust. Plus houses are money pits. 😬 But yay! You’re home!!

I’m off work today for some bogus holiday or another and borderline annoyed because I have a proposal due this week and I could use the extra time to work on (read: start) it. I was tentatively going to do some work today but after waking up it’s clear I’m just not in the right brainspace for it sooooo it’ll have to wait until tomorrow I guess. I’m feeling super burnt out at work lately.

I'm at work right now and I should be writing up all the notes I took the last week or two and I just can't. I'm so not with it due to lack of sleep and energy. I'm going to have to try though. One more appointment...I'm saving all my focal energy on being present with my clients.

mrsukyankee, I'm so excited for you! Moving sucks, paying for stuff sucks, but being in your own home with your own bed and your own sheets is the very best.
@angryharpy, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope memories of your friend are a comfort.
My random today is simple … dealing with aging parents is a blessing and a frustration. I'm glad my mom, at 87 almost 88, is happy and able to live at home. But to do that, it requires work on my part/my brother's part. And today, realizing that she's slipping up with her bills, I'm frustrated and dread getting more firm with her that I take over the finances.
NitaX where can I find a plain black blazer under $100? I have a long torso, and hate 3/4 sleeves.
Your best bet is going to be some place like Nordstrom Rack or even Target. Target has some decent quality blazers that are structured and hang long enough for a long torso. I have this same blazer from Target in navy. It works just fine with my slacks for business attire.
Other than that, I tend to cyber stalk Ann Taylor and Loft for blazers. Ann Taylor is having a sale where most stuff is like an extra 50-70% off. I'd check the Loft website to see what they have. But if not, go to Target and scoop their blazer!

Most of what I have picked out is 3/4 sleeves because I'm really short, so I try to get stuff that gives me some length and shorter sleeves seem better for that.
Had $300 in my wallet last week (from my trip. I was going to deposit into savings in my "other" account that I'd taken funds from to help my daughter/girls' mom.) Came back from a store only to find my wallet was unzipped and all my money, plus the 10 ferry tickets I had *just* bought (another $26 worth of expenses) had fallen out. I *think* it was while we were dealing with some troublesome teens destroying the store where we were trying to stop. I'd had a run-in with these same teens some weeks before and security had to deal with them so I was being pro-active since they were *again* being problematic (running through departments, knocking clothes off racks and pushed my granddaughter into a display while they were playing tag/catch/hide-and-seek; last time was trying to panhandle from me, knocking down displays and throwing balls across aisles and over racks and running through departments so yeah, I was *that* person.) So, I'm out $300 + ferry tickets for a total of about $326.
Hubs and I went to the casino for Valentine's. Gave me $100 to play, dragged me to one of his favorite slots and handed me the money. I don't like gambling and losing money so I'm generally "When I'm down to $50 I'm done. I've lost enough." I was down to just over $50 and went one last slot. Got some thingamajig bonus that gave me 24 free spins. I won $322 on those spins. So I'm technically out $4 instead of $326. Yay me! Maybe I'll find the missing money in my car or somewhere in the house hiding in a crack or crevasse or something. Because that was some darn good luck. Somebody upstairs didn't want me out that money. I hope whoever found it was in desperate need of a windfall and it wasn't those asshat teens.
I have a job interview tomorrow. PERFECT for what I've been looking for. Part-time. Temporary (until late May or early June.) Fire departments merging and records need retention dealt with. They're looking for someone to assist for a few months. Not mind-numbingly awful but repetitive enough that it's a perfect part-time "get out of the house and fluff the resume should I want a full-time job next school year" job. School is out end of June and we're headed to CA in June for my husband's work get-together (every three years the firm gets all the offices together for a big meet-and-greet in San Diego) and FL in September (son's wedding) plus a vacation for me and the hub alone and one for us and the kids together this summer so I won't have to deal with having to negotiate vacation or other for a full-time (which I don't want) or permanent job.
I'm very sorry @angryharpy .
Triggers for death and illness: My husband's cousin was on the road with her partner (truck drivers) and he had a heart attack and passed away last night while they were on the road. He'd had heart problems and COPD but it still comes as a bit of an unexpected shock. This is his mom's twin's daughter and her partner. He was younger than me and DH.
My MIL was recently diagnosed with whatever has been causing her dizziness and inability to walk; she's reached the point where she has to balance against walls and can cross a room only by lurching (for lack of a better term) between furniture and catching herself. It's called White Matter Disease or leukoaraiosis; it's an issue with the white matter of the brain which causes nerve damage between the brain and spinal cord, causing balance and memory issues and is likely related to strokes and dementia. Her sister is a nurse and lives near my in-laws and is pretty much always there and has been keeping an eye on her. It's age-related and can be hereditary so my husband (who's already had some dizziness recently) is keeping an eye; it can't be cured but hopefully the heart meds (cholesterol, statin and BP) he's taking are used in treatment so if he's prone, hopefully this will prevent or at least slow any onset if he's susceptible.
MIL was also just diagnosed with breast cancer. Thankfully it's early and they're using a new technique so she doesn't need to do the weeks of radiology and chemo. Crossing our fingers and hoping for the best results.
In the meantime, FIL just had a new hip replacement and my mom needs another knee replacement because the last one used defective materials. She's not going to have it done though. "It can crack and stick. I'm not doing this again!" (fourth time - this knee was done once and the other twice)

WOT?*, I'm so sorry for all that you are going through. That's a lot of loss and bad news.
My complaint today is that we did an inventory of the boxes from the move (I numbered them) last night and we're missing about 13 boxes. We should have done this on the day of the move but it was insane. My H is going to be yelling at the moving company because they either didn't move them from our storage unit or put them in the wrong storage unit or stole them. Either way, we're going to be either getting them back or getting compensation.

Our car failed inspection, it is a 1998 so not surprising. The repairs will be 1500, which I am sure is more than the car is worth at this point. We were planning on buying a new car in August when daycare and student loans were done, but it seems pointless to pay 1500 now to just buy a new car in 5-6 months. Luckily we can put our tax refund down, which will help but I am struggling with what to buy.
We decided to get an electric car and I find it all overwhelming.
Our older dog spends two days a week with the neighbor, kind of a doggy daycare. Well, as a 12.5 year old shepherd, she has hind issues. Last week, something happened on Tuesday, when she was with the neighbor. And it took her until the weekend to recover. H had a talk with the neighbor and we through they agreed no more car rides, and she could still come over but needed to stay in the yard. No more dog parks, no more long walks, etc.
She got picked up about 45 minutes ago. Right after she left, I had to run a quick errand. And in my way down the street I saw neighbor lady loading up her car. I clearly saw her two dogs (Golden’s) in the car. I did not clearly see mine, but there was a dark shadow that could have been from my dog, or could have been just a shadow. But why would she pick up our dog from our house, where I am, and then leave her in her house while she went out. LIVID.
I have zero tolerance for this lady in general, so in the interest of neighborly relations, I did not stop to investigate. H is the only one who can talk to her. Part of the reason is because she doesn’t do what we ask. My dog, my rules. And now, we are going to have to deal with 4 days of pain meds because she cannot get into and out of cars anymore.
I’m taking much pleasure in the fact that our dog is having anal gland issues right now (bc she can’t squat to poop, bc of whatever happened last Tuesday), so her ass is a mess. And it’s now all over neighbor lady’s back seat.
We had a service tech out today to check on our washer, which is no longer agitating. It's not repairable. Oh well. It was $80 and if it was a belt he could fix I think it would have been another $150, but overall $80 isn't bad to just tell us if it was fixable or not.
I have no idea how old the washer is. It came with the house and was far from new when we moved in, which was 6 years ago. Also not a high-end version, since the woman who owned our house didn't do high-end ANYTHING.
I really want to buy all new appliances and move my laundry from the basement to the first or second floor, but none of that is in the cards now. So another cheap washer it is! Hoping to at least still be able to take advantage of presidents' day sales.

@angryharpy, I'm so sorry for your loss.
Part of my job is to write the subject line for a daily subscriber email. I love using puns, pop culture references, punchy phrases, mild snark and the occasional relevant emoji. It's fun and I'm pretty good at it.
So today I used a reference to Terminator: Rise of the Machines, and one of my colleagues challenged me to work in subject line references to judgement day, salvation, genisys and dark fate within a month. (I said I would only use genesis if it was correctly spelled.) If I manage to do it, then we'll go talk about it on Twitter and see if anybody noticed, lol.
