My MIL got a Bloomberg text. Also, she was visiting this weekend. After my H declared he didn’t like mayor Pete my MIL let it casually drop that she and FIL went to a mayor Pete rally in NH. 😂
I just got my first Bloomberg text. I've gotten two for Bernie before now. Are you in for Mike? Is lol no a good response?
I'm curious to see what happens in Nevada.
I got this one too. How the hell did they get my number? I responded "Absolutely not."
I was nicer to the Bernie person who texted last week, but I am curious how they got my number, too.
I was always under the assumption that they buy databases from companies which is how they get your number. But, I do not know campaign rules, so this may be totally off base.
I have done the text canvassing before. I like it better than calling. It's less scary. It was before the midterms. I don't know how they got the numbers, but they were supposed to be friendlies. Basically, dems that we wanted to make sure voted. It was automated. I'd click something and hundreds of texts would go out. My job was to respond to anyone who texted back. We weren't supposed to engage if they were opposed to the candidate.
As far as I remember, we didn't track anything. If someone said stop, then we removed them from the list. If you don't want the texts, then say stop. Otherwise, your response doesn't do much. But if it is therapeutic for you, keep on.
There were all kinds of responses. I was called some pretty terrible names. It's all automated and anonymous so it didn't bother me.
A bunch of international students (who can’t vote and aren’t registered) in my cohort got texts from Bernie. Like, with their names so it’s not like it’s just that the phone number was on a list. So we’re pretty sure that means our university somehow shared our info with the campaign.
I actually answered the phone to someone calling for Warren last night. She was very nice. Made me feel bad for being wishy washy. I wish I had a single clue who I want to vote for. I think I'm set on waiting for South Carolina's results before I drop off my ballot.

I just got texted by Bloomberg’s people. When they asked if I would support him, I said, “Nope.” When they asked why, I said, “Three words. Stop and frisk.”
They didn’t respond.
ETA: I will vote if he’s the nominee. But otherwise no.
I was also pissed at the phrasing. "What's holding you back?" I am not being held back. I am running in the opposite direction. I am turned off. It is not about hesitation, it is about repulsion.
Do not come for me with your carefully worded consultant-speak. I see you, and now I hate you more.

I read an article written by the editorial board of a local newspaper urging FL to hold off on their mail-in ballots until after Super Tuesday to ensure we vote for a viable candidate who can beat 45. Aka give our delegates to support the front runner. The article discussed how Iowa was a hot mess and NH’s population was less than the county next door to mine. I’m a little on the fence about this. On one hand, I see the validity behind this strategy but on the other we should vote for who we want. I want to vote for EW. In my mind, she is the strongest candidate of those left in the race. If I am going to #votebluenomatterwho in Nov., can’t I at least be excited to vote in the primary? That’s not a guarantee in Nov.

Huh. I wonder if that’s why my husband got his ballot a week ago and I haven’t seen mine yet. I know they have to send them to the printer and all, but several candidates were on there who have already dropped out (Bennet, Yang, maybe Booker?) — and I wonder if that’s going to confuse people.
If so much wasn't at stake, I'd be endlessly amused at who the conservatives think is a threat just based on the Fox news cycle. Apparently in 2016 Bloomberg took a dig at farmers. Fox aired it, and now it's blowing up in the conservative farming areas.

I’m very afraid that if the moderate candidates don’t get in a room & form a plan to combine support & agree on a unified path forward, we’re going to end up with BS as our D nominee. And that means #45 will win in November. 😢
FWIW my ideal is Biden with Kamala Harris as VP (only if she wants it, of course) & an agreement that he’s one-term-only very hopefully ushering in Kamala Harris presidency in 2024. In my dreams, they’d get together with Bloomberg, convince him to take a cabinet position & put his money toward getting out the vote with KHarris as VP. Sigh.

I sent a reply back "Hi NAME. I'm supporting Sen. Warren. Not a fan of Bloomberg's Stop and Frisk policies. Although, I love his trolling of Trump. Thanks and good luck." For the Bernie text - I just said I was supporting Warren and wished them well.
Since I did canvassing last week for Warren, I know we were asked to record our interactions with voters. I am guessing it's probably similar for the folks texting. I'm sure it's internal polling data that helps them with strategy and what issues are important to voters.
Definitely reply back. Also, my replying back is what got me doing canvassing for Warren. My initial reply to the Warren camp was "Sen. Warren can count on my vote on Super Tuesday and a donation."
The person then ended up engaging in a text conversation with me and then I got a call from the camp to volunteer.
ETA: The Bloomberg person sent a text back thanking me for my time. So, feedback is getting noted.
Christ why can’t we just nominate Warren and be done with it? It’s so painfully obvious that of the candidates currently running, she would be the best president. I am so tired of acting like all these other options don’t pale in comparison.
Also, I’m neither a Pete nor an Amy fan, but Amy’s disdain for Pete GIVES ME LIFE. He’s every man who’s ever reworded a woman’s idea and tried to take credit in a meeting.

This article scares me: I just hate to think we waited too long to get money out of politics, or at the very least get a reasonable handle on it. Stop Bloomberg. He's showing billionaires how to buy the presidency and it's dangerous. amp.usatoday.com/amp/4786523002?__twitter_impression=true
Based on a net worth of $53.4 billion, the calculator* tabulated he'd pay “$3.163 billion next year.”
At that point, the former New York City mayor might have thought to himself, “You know what? The total cost of the 2016 presidential election — both parties’ primaries and all — was about $2.4 billion. America has already elected one New York "billionaire" with a long history of indulging in thinly veiled sexism, racism and authoritarianism, so why not another? And many — perhaps most! — Americans would do almost anything to get rid of Trump. What do I have to lose? Hell, it would cost me more in wealth taxes not to run." *ElizWarren’s wealth tax calculator finance.yahoo.com/news/elizabeth-warren-wealth-tax-calculator-214335324.html
