You’ll want to start antibiotics to keep infection from getting worse. Our dentist will call in a prescription prior to being seen for that. You could also hit urgent care for them.

Ds2 had a dental access after a fall. He never needed antibiotics and it was there for at least a day before I realized it was a problem. He never needed antibiotics because the removal of the tooth solved the issue. So antibiotics aren't always required. Is the kid's face swollen?
I would call your dentist before heading to urgent care. Antibiotics should really be given by the doctor who is going to manage the overall issue. The only solution to a dental abscess is either a root canal or an extraction so antibiotics aren't the answer without a plan in place for one of those 2 procedures to follow. If at any time your child experiences any difficulty breathing, head to the ER.
I hated to read and not reply, but I have no idea! What are the symptoms?
Symptoms are a swollen area in the back of her mouth, and this morning a white tip appeared on it. Still no pain. Going to try to call her dentist emergency line today.
Edit: I really have no idea what an abscess is but I texted a pic to a hygienist who told me it’s an abscess. But she also said it’s not an emergency so I don’t know that I should have even asked her.
An abscess is a bacterial infection under the skin. The white tip is pus.
