Today was a good day. It was sunny and felt like spring with temps near 60. We did two nice, long walks (one with our dog and one without). Got our taxes done. I took my camp chair out to the backyard (our patio furniture is put away for winter) and sat in the sunshine for awhile while my dog played. Opened the window a bit to let in fresh air while I cleaned some while listening to a good playlist. Now I just finished painting my nails. I did a sort of ombre - not true ombre but different shades in the same color family or close to it. All spring colors and it makes me happy. Now I relax for the rest of the night.
I feel like those people saying fire the tree guy have never actually dealt with tree guys. They are the worst at sticking to a schedule. Or remembering their jobs. That’s coming from both dealing with for a house and for my townhouse HOA. We (the HOA) are on our third tree company in 2 years.
I’ve used 4. She hasn’t even hired him yet. I stand by my recommendation to move on.
My tree guy is amazing. When I call him for a quote on the morning, he's usually in my yard checking it out by the dinnertime.
Before I found him, I called someone up for a quote and they showed up reeking of alcohol, however.

Yeah, the one we use now is so easy! I just call when I'm ready to have them trimmed and give them permission to do the quote without me. He gives me a time frame anyway and calls me when he's done if I wasn't home. If it's a small job, I let them just work us in, so if they have a bigger job that finishes as 3, they run over here and trim ours. Works great for both of us and they normally give me a little break on price for being flexible.
isabel how old is your little one? Mine is 4.5 and he has been skiing a number of times. I took him yesterday alone and he worked more on his pizza but he’s still unable to stop when he needs to. His edgie wedgie are off now but he is still in a harness, it might be a while before I’m comfortable taking that off. It’s amazing how far he can come in one session though. I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve, but he can only take 3-4 runs before we take a break.
Basically the same age. He'll be 5 in April. He did 3 lessons in January, so this was his 4th time on the hill. He used an edgie wedgie the whole time, which helped a ton with his stopping. He was struggling before we put that one. We don't have him harnessed or anything, so he just had free reign. (I do want something with a handle to make it easier to get him onto the lift and for me to hold onto while he's on it.) I didn't quite realize how well he was following me and turning until I watched DH's video. I led and just had him follow my turns down and DH was behind him. He legitimately turned to follow me most of the time. He was also able to fully stop when we asked him to by getting into a pizza and just riding it until he was perpendicular to the mountain. It was amazing. He was so bummed that he didn't get to ski this morning. I think we'll take him back up next Friday when we can leave little brother at daycare.
Update on the tree guy. He eventually showed up an hour late. We’re perfectly happy with the work so far, we’ll see if he shows up for the rest. My husband insisted on buying him and his crew lunch so big eye roll there (he always does this when we hire people, I don’t get it).
Here’s the thing. I called 11 companies for estimates. Only 6 companies called me back and only 5 actually showed up. The highest estimate was literally 5x as much as the lowest. The guy we went with had the second lowest estimate, but we actually went with him because he had great reviews, was a nice guy, and is only a year in business trying to build his client base. When I told my Mom and Bff about his lack of showing up they told me that they both had similar experiences with other companies, so I guess I should be grateful he showed up at all. Sigh.
