☹️ The restaurateur, model and author B. Smith died on Saturday after a battle with Alzheimer's disease, her husband Dan Gasby said in a statement. She was 70 years old.
I remember that mess a while back when her husband moved his [white] sidepiece into their home to live off B’s money. I wonder if that is still in progress.
I remember how popular her restaurant in Washington Union Station was back in the day. It seems like the upscale soul food concept has always been around but really she pioneered it in the 80s.
I loved her DC restaurant before I even knew about all of her other accomplishments.
I hope to the end she got the excellent and devoted care she deserved.
I won’t ever forget eating there with my dad and stepmom and meeting Maya Angelou at the bar.
❤️
I unintentionally squeaked/ softly squealed reading this/ imagining this scenario. H wants to know what about , & there’s no way I can concisely explain & not sound crazy 😋

It was really special. The meal was amazing, but meeting Maya Angelou is a highlight of my life.

I'm so sorry for her - 70 years old, and that Alzheimers is such a prevalent disease still. B was an amazing woman and I remember when we discussed her accomplishments and push for Alzheimer research before.
PS And still grateful to you women who pointed out why her husband's actions during her disease was such an disrespectful, ugly thing.
