I listen to their podcast and this morning they shared that they are moving to the panhandle of Florida over the summer (they are waiting to close on the house before they share where and pictures of the house). If I understand correctly they are selling their house in Richmond AND their pink house in Cape Charles (they already announced that they are in the process of selling the duplex to friends of theirs).
I am really surprised honestly, mostly of the letting go of both of the houses they rehab'd in Cape Charles. It has been clear they loved those houses more than their Richmond house but seems like the schools and having family nearby were a big draw to keep them there. I'm wondering how they'll do future rehab projects without family to help with childcare but maybe with the kids getting older it won't be such an issue.
I'm behind on their podcast, but selling the Richmond house seems like a bad choice. They always talk about having family nearby and their "village" in their neighborhood.
ETA: Also the Richmond house still needs some updating, so I guess they don't care that they only got around to 1 bathroom?

Wow, I didn't listen to the podcast yet but I've been keeping up with them. I'm shocked! I could tell they've been lukewarm about their Richmond house since they started the minimizing kick, but I'm surprised that they just went through that whole bathroom reno.
Huh. I want to go listen to that now. I find it really interesting that they're selling the beach house. Did they say why they're moving? Florida seems an odd choice for them for some reason.

Sherry is obsessed with summer and has basically expressed that she hates all other seasons, especially fall. And they want to live someplace "small and walkable (or golf cart driveable) like Cape Charles but with decent schools available.
They drive me nuts! But this seems like a good move. They are content creators as a profession. Their content has been BORING for awhile. They are not happy with the size of their current house. They hate winter. Love summer and the beach. Didn’t like being hosts of an Air B&B. Couldn’t make living in Cape Charles work for their family. Have the means to move and make a living somewhere else. It makes sense all around. Still I was surprised and they still drive me nuts. Mostly Sherry. And their design sense has not elevated in anyway in over a decade. I hope they use this change to push their creativity. I’m excited!
I'm curious what they'll do with their time once their new house is done, maybe invest and rehab more beach houses near them? I think they are on the track to retire early but won't they get bored?
heyjude after my initial shock I was like "yay new content" lol we are sheep....
It’s their job. It’s what they do for a living. I just wish they’d be honest about it instead of pretending as if they represent real life. “Oh this is our forever house” was always BS. And it always will be for them. “Oh hi we are just chronicling our DIY house projects” is a lie. It’s not 2007 anymore. We all know what that Influencer Life is all about. Say what you will for Emily Henderson but at least she is honest about what she is and what she is doing and what her motives are.

Do you follow chrislovesjulia? I just started a year or so ago and I feel like they are more honest about it. When their cabin burned down they talked about how part of the loss was lost content/income since they planned their year around projects for that purpose.

No ha. I refuse. Because of their name alone. Lol.

I hate follow them on IG. I am not into their style at all, but sometimes they do something that doesn't totally suck.
On a tangentially related note - what is going on with Katie Bower? She went from a million plus stories and swipe ups to radio silence.
oh man you are right, she has disappeared the last few weeks! She had cut way back but was still posting like daily or every other day.
hope she's okay...lots to say about her but I hope she is getting some help if she is struggling with stuff.
She’s a total hate read for me (unlike YHL who I think I will always have a soft spot for) so I wouldn’t mind if the whole thing imploded on her. I do worry about her kids.
What did they used to do? I mean, that house in Richmond is really nice. How do they have the money for all of this and how can I get some? lol
They're professional home renovation bloggers. They completely redid their first house, gained a huge following, and have continued to do home renovations while designing/staging other homes and added a retail line. They also have a book (or two?).
I still follow them. I was surprised at their announcement! Sherry doesn't like fall because it's a sign of things to come - the dreaded coldness of winter.
I kinda follow chrislovesjulia, but Julia's upspeak and/or the amount of lag between her words drives me crazy.

They both started out in advertising. I believe Sherry quit her full-time job when she was pregnant with her first, but kept doing freelance on and off. John quit when their daughter was a toddler and then went back when they were on hiatus, and then quit again to do the podcast. The timeline might be a little off, but they always seemed very risk averse with regards to quitting their full time jobs to do blogging full time.
Now they have two books, a successful blog and podcast with a bunch of sponsors, and random furniture/lighting/home goods lines in various stores. Plus Sherry's home staging side business.
I'm not sure how moving to what sounds like a small town in the Panhandle is going to fill the "good schools" part of the equation, but good for them.
You couldn't pay me enough to live in the FL panhandle, but hey, I guess someone has to.
I had a friend who spent a year or two as the librarian in Apalachicola. That's the only place I'd consider. I spent a week there as part of a college "Maymester" course. It's very small town but very old FL and not touristy or military or Floribama like Destin or Pensacola. I don't know if I could do long term in Apalach, but I could do a couple years. (I haven't been in nearly 20 years, though, so take that with a block of salt)
It's not exactly summer year round, though. Even Miami got into the 40s this year, and that's a good 10hr drive south IIRC.
