From the pic they put on the blog it looks like its probably the 30A area- there is lots of trees there and they mentioned taking a golf cart to the grocery store. It's really beautiful and a $$$ area but yeah I would be concerned about schools.
You couldn't pay me enough to live in the FL panhandle, but hey, I guess someone has to.
I had a friend who spent a year or two as the librarian in Apalachicola. That's the only place I'd consider. I spent a week there as part of a college "Maymester" course. It's very small town but very old FL and not touristy or military or Floribama like Destin or Pensacola. I don't know if I could do long term in Apalach, but I could do a couple years. (I haven't been in nearly 20 years, though, so take that with a block of salt)
It's not exactly summer year round, though. Even Miami got into the 40s this year, and that's a good 10hr drive south IIRC.
I love Apalachicola. We’ve vacationed on St. George Island a few times.

Yeah, the closest to summer all year would probably be Honolulu, but that's $$$$$$ and seems a bit too adventurous for them.

Honestly, I think of these people as so bland if they said they were moving to central FL I'd assume Celebration. Disney created, 90% or so white. But admittedly I know little about them except an occasional GOMI. They bored me too much to follow.
What did they used to do? I mean, that house in Richmond is really nice. How do they have the money for all of this and how can I get some? lol
They both started out in advertising. I believe Sherry quit her full-time job when she was pregnant with her first, but kept doing freelance on and off. John quit when their daughter was a toddler and then went back when they were on hiatus, and then quit again to do the podcast. The timeline might be a little off, but they always seemed very risk averse with regards to quitting their full time jobs to do blogging full time.
Now they have two books, a successful blog and podcast with a bunch of sponsors, and random furniture/lighting/home goods lines in various stores. Plus Sherry's home staging side business.

Ok, gotcha. They do a lovely job.
I’m actually surprised they’ve had all this longevity. They have talents for sure but it’s not in their design skills or knowledge.

I live 10 minutes from their house and I see them all over town. I was really surprised that they are leaving. The school district they live in is really good...I've always heard terrible things about schools in Florida. But all I know is that I want to buy their house! It's going to be way out of our budget, though. lol I'm hoping that they at least announce some kind of yard sale. I'd camp out for that.
Well I think I found the house (they gave a lot of clues on the blog today)! (Don’t ask, I’m not sharing and I’m probably wrong anyway!). And if it’s the house I’m very jealous and I think it’s going to make amazing content for years to come!! I’m very excited for them/envious that they can pull this off!

I'm so curious about this. I was thinking Seaside, but I am probably wrong. I think it has to be closer to Destin or closer to Panama City since there are Home Depots there (and that was a criteria).
It's not what I expected and it sounds like a hot mess, but I can totally see how they'll fix it up and make it look great. The water damage stuff is so scary to me, but it sounds like they've addressed it well and I assume the structure is solid now that they've removed the drywall to see how the beams look.
I’m curious what they paid for it. What’s a house like that in the panhandle run for? $250k? That almost seems high to me given how much water damage it had. Seems like they’ll be able to create a pretty amazing little oasis for under $500k all in. Not bad.

I think this is going to be a shit show. How are they going to put a pool and outbuilding on 4700 sq feet? Why aren't the bedrooms (kids or master) going upstairs? Do they really plan to walk through C's bedroom to eat outside? But I will hate follow along with it.
Holy crap!!! 3/4 of a million for that?!?! And have they actually ever lived in FL? I don't understand all this outdoor eating they plan to do. I've lived in FL almost all my life and it's only pleasurable to eat outside like 7 weeks a year.
The cost must be why they’re selling this new life so much. I get being in a smaller house for the summer, but I’m interested to see how that going to play out in real life with school projects and activities and just living. Although they don’t have the kids in any activities, do they?
Why do they do such weird things with floor plans?
Who the hell wants a master bedroom in the large downstairs living room, and the living room upstairs?
Whyyyyyyy?
It’s common in beach towns to do a reverse floor plan. But I don’t think their house is “at the beach.” And the living and kitchen is together upstairs.
Honestly the reverse floor plan doesn’t bother me a ton, if there’s somewhere inside on the first floor to “hang out.” We tend to be together when cooking, so that split would be hard to navigate.

What’s the over/under on how long they stay in this house?
ETA: I still can’t believe they sold the pink house. Seems like that would be a good place to have to go to in the summer. At least keep it for a little while to see if Florida year round is really what you think it is.

It seems like they have a penchant for houses with extensive water damage. Freaks me out, personally. I do prefer someone to buy these and properly renovate vs tearing it down, so I’ll be interested to see how this ends up.
I like their idea of changing that living area to a master.
I took on a ridiculous renovation myself which ended up costing twice what we budgeted. The first time we saw our house (at an open house), we laughed about how horrible it was and wondered how anyone could buy it. We ended up falling in love because the house had so much potential. But the pictures of that house are giving me nightmares. I don’t really see the potential - I feel like she is overselling it. I see a few sets of sliding doors but that doesn’t scream “Awesome” to me.

Nooooo! 😱 Holy shit. I can’t believe they’re sitting on a million dollar property in the fucking Florida panhandle. Why!? Who makes that choice!? I’m back to judging and judging hard.
She said in the video they would go out the front door to the patio outside Clara’s room, so that doesn’t seem so weird to me. And I kind of like the reverse floor plan. You’ve gotta go up/down to get back and forth in a typical American two-story home, so I don’t see why this is any different.

I'm with you. I guess it's in a nice location (I know nothing about that area except looking at comps around that neighborhood), but I don't like the layout. With smaller houses layout plays such a big part. I live in a 1530sf house, and it sometimes seems so much larger than the 1800sf house we used to own. I'm guessing the living room and kitchen/eating area are way bigger than they seemed on the video.
The area that they are moving to is very expensive and really nice! I can see why it cost that much and isn't even on the beach. They probably could flip it for a profit. I would live there but not during the summer when the tourists invade-the traffic and amount of people is terrible. Does anyone know for sure which town this is in on 30A?

Their second house was also a layout Trainwreck. They seem to have no sense of what is a good layout.

Going in and out the front door to get into that screened porch is going to negate the benefits of the screened porch...they will be letting insects in and then they will be trapped in there with them.
I would love to see what someone else could do with that house. I have no faith in them. They take a good idea, or at least interesting one, and somehow always manage to just not quite bring it to what it could be, like it's their underwhelming super power. lol .
