This summer we would like to do a beach vacation. Here are the requirements. 1. I would like to leave the country. 2. My husband wants the beach, also good food is a must for him. 3. My son wants the jungle.
We have been thinking Costa Rica but are open to other ideas. We are open to exploring but also just relaxing. My son is 9, a super good hiker not always the most adventurous.
Mexico near Playa del Carmen has a nicer beach than the Pacific side of Costa Rica. There are lots of excursions that go into the jungle, to cenotes, zip lines, etc. We used Edventures Tours for this.
I did not like the beach in Costa Rica (we stayed in Playas del Coco) but the jungle part is great. We stayed at a farm called La Finca de Anita. I think a kid would LOVE it.

We just got back from Costa Rica and loved it - the beach at our resort in Manuel Antonio was great (but calm - no wild waves if that's what you're looking for). The food was good, but not great. We stayed at 4 different resorts - The Peace Lodge, The Springs (Arenal), Tulemar (Manuel Antonio) and the Marriott near the airport.
A favorite vacation of ours was Playa del Carmen, with a lot of excursions to the jungle to swim in cenotes. Beach can be iffy and seaweedy, though. I liked the food better there. Beach better in Costa Rica.

We stayed at both Tulamar and Peace Lodge. Both were awesome!
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I probably wouldn’t plan anything for the summer just yet, but if you do, read their cancelling/refund policies carefully. I am preparing myself to battle with AA over our cancelled trip. (We were supposed to leave this morning for Grenada.)
